Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

^I prefer the reusable water bottle approach because I like getting more than a dixie cup's worth of water at a time.

Btw, drink more water people. If I took all the sugar in a large cup of soda and put it in a pile in front of you, gave you a spoon, and said eat it, it would make you sick. Soda is bad for you. You're drinking it to get hydrated so you're not even really enjoying all that sugar anyway. Take the money you'll save by drinking water and buy yourself some ice cream at the end of the day instead. Ice cream is good for the soul.

Haven't been on the site in what feels like years, but I'm finally hopping back into being an enthusiast. Usually go to Hershey on Easter with family, but they aren't opening til next week, so we're heading to SFGA tomorrow. Excited for my first visit since spring of 2013, it has been a while.

Just got off SORA. They just spent 5 minutes telling us about the importance of preserving trees and how Six Flags is trying to communicate that message this year. They want us to stop using paper towels to save trees because "every little bit helps".

... just think about that for awhile. Let is sink in.

^I agree it is pretty ridiculous to say that and move forward with this project, and I understand the ecosystem destruction aspect, but doesn't the park replant everything they cut down with new trees? So as a whole they wouldn't actually have a net loss in trees if I'm not mistaken. It's still a risky move on their part and rather ironic as a whole.

Even if they do replant every single tree that is removed it will take decades for them to grow to the size of the trees being torn down. In theory this project is great, but their execution of it is terrible.

So I had a great day by myself at the park...

3 rides on El Toro, 1 on bizzaro and batman, and 2 on Nitro.

El Toro was hauling by the third ride and Ryan and his team were doing wonderful (as per usual).

Bizzaro impressed me, the ride was running a solid run, just slightly touching the breaks mid course and the team was getting trains out faster then they were even finishing the last flat spin!

Batman was a station wait (with all the back doors open, which I thought was odd and problematic for wondering eyes...

Nitro rode very bumpy (train 2) but they were running all 3 trains which was great.

I left for the day since I wanted to do some shopping at the outlets down the block. Bummed that Best of the West was closed, I thought i would go got the outlets and find food there. JACKPOT! Food trucks plan on being there every weekend!!!! Feast your eyes on a cheddar pulled pork grilled cheese...

So we made our first visit to the park this season yesterday. I have to say I was impressed with a lot of what I saw.

I'll save the trip report but here are a few key points...

1) El Toro Crew (and Ryan)... OUTSTANDING JOB!!!! They let both trains ride again last night at the end of the night (and Ryan appeared to be the one telling the guy at the panel to do it, though he may have been telling him the train wasn't parked in the right place, couldn't tell. lol )The ride was running flawlessly, still warming up but honestly the difference between a slow ride and a fast ride on El Toro is minimal. It delivered ungodly airtime everywhere.

2) The new Safari pathway... good god. They have a lion cub, otters and then the even smaller and cuter lion cub and tiger cub together. Go NOW before they get bigger.

3) They made a fast recovery from Holiday in the Park. 2 Trains on Superman and Batman and 3 on Nitro. I don't know or care what Green Lantern was doing.

4) There were some nice improvements all over the park, many coasters had re-painted trains and the Skyway cars got a much needed paint job. It looks like the flume is getting some trough work too.

5) All rides ran great and crews were pretty good for opening week (except the Bizarro crew of course, they were horrendous. They only have 2 trains now but they're still stacking like it's an olympic sport, hopefully they run 2 all year because all running 3 accomplishes is a ridiculous amount of time stacked in the brakes).

6) Around 7:00 we were debating what to ride. I was leaning towards riding Kingda Ka in row 1 again because I love that thing to death but Brit decided to ride Superman. Once we rode that we figured it would be fun to ride every respectable coaster in the park on Opening Weekend so we rode the train next and for the first time in forever actually managed to ride all the coasters in one day. Obviously I'm not including Green Lantern or the kids coaster... neither of which I'd be caught dead riding ever.

Anyway thanks for a great day Six Flags! I'm sure it'll be a great season!

Kingda Ka - 1

Ole' - 4

Get Twisted - 1

Safari Off Road Adventure - 1

Skyway - 2

Pointsetta Peak / Boldikus Mountain - 1

Nitro - 1

Dark Knight - 1

Hard to get a good picture of these two, you have to come see for yourself.

Beautiful day

Zumanjaro was stuck with riders at one point and it was cool to watch them drop each car individually. The ride was having issues all day so we never got to ride it.

Picked up some new Skull Mountain Swag. I'll probably never wear this in public but I felt like a higher power was telling me I needed to buy it. Lol

So it's looking more and more like I'll be headed out to the park alone on Tuesday. Is it at all possible to let height check or fastlane know I'm a single rider, with the intention of skipping standby? I know GL and Zumanjaro are the only rides with a dedicated single riders line, but you still have to wait in standby on GL until the fork.

There probably won't be any lines to skip anyway on a Tuesday in March.

Fair enough. As long as it's like a 5 minute wait/walk on for everything I won't mind. I hate standing in standby when I'm solo though. It's so boring, either stare at your phone or try to strike up a convo with random people.

^ Whatever you do absolutely do not bother with the SRL on Zum, the ride itself barely ever has a wait anyway. But I swear the ops are actually instructed to ignore the SRL completely, it just does not move.

And why would you waste any time at all on Lantern? Do youself a favor and just take a spin on El Toro instead.

I'm probably just going to run laps on Ka, Bizzarro, Nitro, and Toro anyway.

^ Do not skip Bat(out of hell)man. I really regret not riding it Wednesday but its was running the best it ever has during HITP. Wait the few extra minutes for the front if you want to feel like your face is being ripped off.

Since the joker track is done, will they be able to test and open the area earlier than "summer 2016?"

Only track being complete does not make a ride. Consider things like all of the concrete pouring and landscaping, construction of the queue & queue gates, all of the electrical work, the sign/entrance portal, control booth, and the landscaping of the entire new plaza going around the ride. I'd also assume that new VIllians Cafe should be part of that and finished to open with the ride. Not to mention at least a few weeks of testing the ride. I'm not saying it won't be open til summer, Batman @ SFFT opened on time, and they surprised us by opening El Diablo earlier than expected last year (not an insane feat or anything but still) however, on the other hand Zum didn't open until July 4th.

This. The thing was running at a ridiculous speed again yesterday with a half empty train.

Also DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT miss Safari Discoveries. The main entrance is closed, go in from Golden Kingdom by the Sea Lion stadium entrance or from the split of Golden Kingdom / Frontier Adventures / Plaza De Carnival through the gift shop (I think it's called Coasters and Candy). Or just ask someone where the Lion and Tiger cubs are. It'll only take you 5 minutes but you have to see these things.

And ride Skull Mountain. F**k's wrong with you?

Construction on Batman at SFFT finished around the same as Joker, so they're right on schedule. Joker will probably be ready before Memorial Day if they keep the same pace, maybe they'll soft open the ride?

Yeah but Batman: The Ride didnt have the huge ass plaza Joker will have. I still think the ride will still open on Memorial Day to the public, and the media day/ pass holder preview days will be a week before Memorial Day weekend. Also, Harley Quinn is expected to open sometime in the middle of April, which is good!
