Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^^I agree with that completely. The concept is cool when it's done right. Nightmares Fear Factory (niagara falls,on)and Barrets Haunted Mansion's "darkness unleashed" (mass) are my two favorite mazes and they are both great examples of mazes with no theming, utter darkness, and unbelievably effing frightening even if you aren't a nyctophobiac.

I heard last year GADV's total darkness had flashlights that went out at certain points , maybe they will bring back that concept.

I have to say the scare actors at this event were great! Some above and beyond... Slender man, the neon chainsaw brothers, voodoo stilt walker , and the asylum "spiderlike wall crawling girl" were all extremely into their characters and seemed to love what they were doing. The escaped inmate in orange jumpsuit was twitching and jerking his face to look like a maniac, wouldn't let up!

The Voodoo King at the end of voodoo island just had this stare... Jess and I were exiting the trail and he just stared at us the whole time. Even 400 feet down the trail I turned around to see him... Still staring. No walking off, no breaking character. Well done fright fest scare actors!

Curious, who built the off road vehicles for the Safari Off Road Adventure? I know GM built Disney's was it the same here?

They were bought from Military surplus, they were used in conflicts such as the gulf war. I have no idea who did the conversion.

Very Six Flag-ish

Why is it a bad thing? they were built to last in their first life

Why? That's actually awesome... and you really need military vehicles for the punishment they put them through. The road out to the Safari is really, really rough.

I'll be the first one to bash Six Flags but Safari Off Road Adventure is amazing... they did everything right with that ride (except for Camp Aventura which looks like crap). It was a nightmare when it first opened but since they've got the kinks worked out it's been an awesome addition.

Ageriksob, To answer your question flash pass does not work in the terror trails. You can purchase a wristband for $30 that includes admission to and front of the line access to all six haunted houses. I hope this was helpful.

It is. Thank you. The website is pretty terrible at explaining things and Google is no help.

My girlfriend wants to do the trails next Saturday and I want to get more night rides on coasters, so that should help us with both.

Oh well, I just think it seems weird for an amusement park to buy used vehicles to use on a safari. That's just me though.

"Military surplus" does not necessarily mean that the vehicles were used. The term refers to general equipment that was intended for the military but is unable to be used or originally purchased in excess by the military. The vehicles could very well have never been used by the military.

The park was a lot more crowded than I was expecting tonight. I have gone to the first Friday night Fright Fest in October almost every year for the last 6 years and it's always been walk ons or 5 - 10 minute waits. Tonight by 8:00, some of the coasters had 45+ minute waits and some of areas of the park like the Boardwalk were very difficult to walk through since there were so many people. From Nitro's lift the lot looked almost 2/3 full.

^ I'm at the park now, too. Definitely more crowded than I anticipated, also. I waited close to an hour for Nitro. The crowds also maintained their level throughout the night - I'm sitting at the Boardwalk now and it's definitely still hard to navigate. Didn't do any of the trails, maybe next time.

I was shocked with how busy the park was last night. It took us almost an hour to go through security, get a bring a friend ticket, and go into the park.

Zumanjaro in the dark is completely insane. I could see lights for a city, but I'm not sure if it was Philly or Trenton. Ka's dispatches must have really been slow last night because they were sending one Ka train for every Zumanjaro cycle for the most part. We only waited half an hour, the line looked much longer later.

They really need lights in Kingda Ka's queue. There are no lights by the test seat and along the path leading to the switchbacks.

Batman was awesome, and had the fastest operations in the park, as usual.

Skyscreamer was taking FOREVER to load last night. We waited half an hour for four cycles.

No one should EVER be shocked at crowd levels at SFGAdv during Fright Fest. I don't even like going to the park just to get my season pass processed.

Agreed! I like how the park looks, love the theming, etc.....but can't deal with the crowds- including getting my pass validated!

They were pretty efficient with the passes when I got mine a couple of weeks ago. Mind you, we went there right away when the park opened.

Agreed, they are generally efficient, it's just the volume of people that prevents you from doing anything at the park after getting the pass validated. One of the reasons I get my pass from SFNE. Crowds are usually pretty light on Sunday morning during Fright Fest. I have gone to SFGAdv on the first Sunday of Fright Fest in the past and lines were already an hour log for every major coaster after validating my pass.

I can't even imagine Kingda Ka's line during Fright Fest now that it can only send around 3 trains every ten minutes. I really hope they fix this problem in the offseason.

The park has a few ideas to fix the problem but the problem is whether NJ will pass them or not. I guess we have to wait and see.
