Dr. M
There's nothing really to dislike about El Toro. I dislike the two sharp, distinct bumps it's developed on the way back from the first turn around. Not that I'm against a little roughness in a wooden coaster of course, I just remember the days when it was freakishly, eerily smooth. They have come and gone. Oh, and I concur in hoping that Six Flags does something to conceal El Toro's finale instead of doing something dumb like putting a path right next to it. But I'll keep my hopes low, since this is SF after all. I'll be happy if the area doesn't remain an empty dirt field.
Brassinthegrass
Honestly, I think that watching the finale from a walkway will look like fun (just like it looked from the Rolling Thunder Station). When your actually on it you realize how fast it really hauls through that section. I do hope we can walk under El Toro where RT once flew under... would make a nice cut through and fix the lack of access to Kingda Ka...
michaellynn4
^Except that it's not in Virginia. Fixed. Comments like these help me realize that I'm really, really fortunate that I have this coaster practically in my backyard. Oh El Toro, I'll never take you for granted... markysharky17
^Except that it's not in Virginia. Fixed. How about Florida? LOL Our Sunshine State needs El Toro! We do need one in Florida. I have to drive 16+ hours if I want to go ride El Toro. I can't see any parks in FL getting an Intamin woodie though. I would only have hope for BG to get one but after all the trouble with Gwazi I don't think we will be seeing another woodie...

I have to drive 16+ hours if I want to go ride El Toro. Could be worse. I need to have a 2 hour drive + a 7 hour flight + one hour (at least) drive to ride el toro. And guess what, on either of my tow trips to Great Adventure (which come really expensive) I didn't get to ride it: the first time it was so crowded that I din't have time and in the second one it was closed. Yay!
Dr. M
I don't know what you all are going on about. El Toro isn't even all that great. ... Naw I'm kidding, it's pretty much the greatest coaster in the country possibly outside of Sky Rush. =D
BoulderDash
Here is another picture. Looks like the lift is one of the last parts standing. I think El Toro's ejector hill and finale is going to look really good now, hopefully they make it look good.

How about our area even gets ONE coaster within a 3 hour radius. Even a kiddie coaster is 2 hours away!

YoshiFan
Every year I hope they eventually consider it. They could have just one side of the park open with the flats in Adventure Alley and Lakefront open, Safari Kids and Looney Tunes Seaport plus Skull Mountain and The Dark Knight. Vonni
Does SFGAdv do a Holiday in the Park Event? No. I'm surprised, with it being one of the headliner parks in the chain...
donkeyman18
I remember a long while ago you used to be able to ride through the parking lot and they had light displays set up. But once that ended we haven't had any form of holiday in the park.
michaellynn4
Yea, the Winter Lights events ran after the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Here's some more info from a SFGAdv fansite: http://www.greatadventurehistory.com/WinterLights.htm
Vonni
^ It really is unfortunate they did not continue the event. Judging from the pics, it was really enjoyable, and great for some Family Holiday fun.
Brassinthegrass
Hey, Has anyone seen any construction going on with the Tower of Kingda Ka? I know its hard to see since the park is closed, but maybe something from the Parking lot by the Pond? Im too far away to drive down just to look, but would love to know if anything is going on! (where's Flyin Phil when you need him!)
coasterbill
I can't find anything anywhere... you can see the tower from Monmouth Rd. if you really wanted to take a look at it but I would think there wouldn't be anything visible yet. biker7766
I passed by the entrance recently driving down Monmouth Road, and I didn't see any cranes or any thing orange colored on Kingda Ka's tower.
traincrossin
So there's a pretty good chunk of land available now that Rolling Thunder is gone. Do we know what's going to replace it yet or is it all speculation right now? I'd imagine it would have to be replaced with a higher capacity ride to make up for the loss in capacity. Edit: Just realized I only ride one side of Rolling Thunder, woops, missed a credit there.
Hoppy
^ A walkway to the backside of Kinda Ka for Zumanjaro. So far, that's all they had released as 'plans' alongside expanding that area. I'm sure in a few years they will need to bulldoze more trees since they changed their mind again on what they want to do
coasterbill
Knowing Great Adventure, it's very likely that they won't replace it with anything (other than the walkway to the drop tower and animal exhibits). They didn't replace Old Country with anything, they just kind of closed it off. If anything I think the park will end up with a Wingrider, only because it's one of the only coaster types they don't have... there have been some Screamscape rumors about it over the last few years too which add a tiny bit of merit to that way of thinking. Brassinthegrass
It definitely opens up a lot of space for expansion. Building out past the Kingda Ka Tower to the old front of the Safari will definitely allow the park to expand. Although, I wish they would put some love on the other side of the park.. it seems run down and tired...

They didn't replace Old Country with anything, they just kind of closed it off. Out of all of the decisions that have been made at this park over the years, this is by far the most disappointing for me. There is a ton of potential over there. Heck, even if they just opened it up just so there is another route to get over to MovieTown that would be great. I really liked the feel of the area walking through there. It was like old Great Adventure, and now it is all closed off. It is really disappointing.
Brassinthegrass
As I said before, I think this would work as a nice revitalization of the area...
