Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGAdv) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm visiting Great Adventure either the fourth, which is labor day weekend, or the eleventh. Both are sundays. I want to try to go to the fourth because they're open two hours later than the eleventh, but how are crowds on Labor Day weekends?

If you are not planning on getting a Flash Pass (which appears to be the case since you are asking about lines) go on the 11th

I just got back from the park a few hours ago (7/26/2011) and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. The weather was nice for a change, (high 80's, low humidity) and the park wasn't too crowded. We arrived at the safari around 9:45am or so and got into the park just after 10:30am. We headed straight for Kingda Ka...figuring we would get it out of the way first. The line was probably 30-45minutes long and as soon as we got in line the ride shut down and they kicked everyone out of line. We thought about going to Green Lantern but figured that was everyone else's plan. We went to El Toro which was a walk up to the station and maybe a 5-10minuted station wait. We rode in the Stride wrapped train which I think is very ugly and we a sat on a wheel seat (last row of the second to last car) and you could definitely feel any bumps on the track, however it still delivered. The ejector air was even more intense than I remember. After that we went onto Rolling Thunder just because it was a walk up the the station and then headed to Bizarro (also a walk right into the station) which had audio working on our train. The ride didn't have the B&M rattle I remembered except for right after the cobra roll before the MCBR. It did have to Auger of doom with the mist and lights working. After that we rode Runaway Mine Train which was meh in the front and felt more like you were getting pushed which wasn't very comfortable. Then we headed to the opposite side of the park to Skull Mountain thinking it was air conditioned, it wasn't, and it wasn't that fun towards the front either. Then we went to Dark Knight, which WAS air conditioned, yay!! Boring generic mouse but it didnt have a line (one cycle behind going into the show area.) but we rode it to get out of the heat. After that came B:TR which had about a 20minute wait and then Nitro front row which was about a half hour wait. We went on Kingda Ka later in the day and it was extremely rough for me even though we sat in the second row of the second car. We went on Green Lantern to end the night which was pretty go, 10000x better than Shockwave at KD (my only other stand up.) Overall it was a good trip and the lines were not very long. I did notice in almost all the stations when they did visual scan the ops put their hands above their heads which didn't look like they could see very well.

hello, I am visiting GADV for the first time next week for one day. I'm going to wait and see how long the lines are before i decide on buying a fast pass. Do you guys know if it's select seats on the train for the fast pass or can you sit anywhere?

I believe you can sit anywhere with a flash pass, but it will still be a longer wait for the front. If I remember correctly a flash pass brings you to the station, the part where you pick your row. Then you have to wait after that.

Please do not answer questions like this if you are not 100% certain. It doesn't help the person asking the question? Some of the Flash Pass entrances merge into the queue and some bring you right into the station.

He did accurately answer his question - no ride at GAdv assigns particular rows to FlashPass users, and each FP line merges before you choose your seat.

Thank you for confirming. My concern is that we should be helping each other and when a sentence starts with "I believe" or "I think" or "It used to be like this" it does not clearly answer a question about present procedure.

Unless something has changed since last month, Skull Mountain assigns Flashpass to car 5, Runaway Mine Train assigns Flashpass to the first row of the 3rd car. Rolling Thunder now merges before the stairs (which can still be a 20+ minute wait with the slow dispatches if filled), Kingda Ka merges at the path to walk to the station, Rapids go up the exit and to the further staircase and everything else either merges at the station or at the stairs to the station (like Superman).

So I'm going to Great Adventure on Wednesday with a friend. We are going to get a regular Flash Pass and stay from opening to close. I haven't been since 1997 when I was 12, and I know the park has changed a lot since then, both for the better and for the worse. Do you think we should be able to get everything in with a reg. flash pass? I like to do flat rides as well (and I know the park only has like 5) and take some time to just soak up the theme park atmosphere. Also I'm guessing crowds on a Wednesday should be some of the lightest of the week, correct?

I've read the park tips in the park database here, but does anyone have a suggestion as to how to navigate the park? Should I start with El Toro or start with Kingda Ka (if it's running)?

^I just went today, and hit them in this order:

El Toro (x2) -> Kingda Ka (x2) -> Bizarro -> Runaway Mine Train -> Skyride to the other side -> Skull Mountain -> Nitro (x2) -> Batman -> The Dark Knight -> Green Lantern (x2) -> Superman -> Rolling Thunder -> El Toro again (x3)

We never waited more than 10 minutes for any ride all day. The lines for Green Lantern and Superman were an hour apiece earlier in the day, but around 330pm we headed back and they were dead. We got a LOT done today from 1030-5, and with Green Lantern pulling crowds the way it does I would advise that path to anyone. Honestly, there's no reason to have a Flash Pass of any rank. I'd save the money!

SIX FLAGS GREAT FREAKIN" ADVENTURE

PHOTO TRIP REPORT

JULY 2011

We were planning to be there at 10:00, park opening, but we got there at 12:00 because of my stupid GPS. Anyway, we got there and there was nobody there. The crowds were light, there seemed to be a lot more landscaping to the park since I've last been (2 years ago), and there were new shops and attractions. I could careless about Green Lantern because I went on Chang at Kentucky Kingdom and it was terrible so I didn't want to experience that again. We went straight to Kingda Ka. We waited 10 minutes and it was my first time riding. It's now my favorite ride ever! It was well themed, and such a great ride. Then we went to El Toro and there was not a single wait for the back row! We walked on at 12:00! El Toro never dies down. Then we headed on over to Nitro. There was no line until some stupid fat slob decided to throw up in the second row during the ride making the rest of the rows smelly and drenched in puke. Luckily I wasn't on that train. We rode the back and is still one of the best B&M Hypercoasters out there! It does NOT disappoint! Nitro needs some painting though. We then rode Batman: The OVERHEATED Ride! Batman has the hottest entrance. Luckily I wasn't in the gray room too long. I was probably only in there for three minutes. I go to wait for the front row until a fat lady slob decided to throw up in the third row. GREAT! Six Flags Great Adventure cleaned up Nitro faster and better than Batman. We then walked on Dark Knight and Skull Mountain to get the credit. Skull Mountain was terrible though. Almost everything was a walk on except Kingda Ka and Green Lantern. We rode Bizarro front row and they had the music running well and all of the mist and effects were working well. We then went to Superman around 4:00 and there was NO WAIT! I REPEAT NO WAIT!!! We walked on the back row and waited one ride for the front row!!! We decided to ride Kingda Ka one more time before we left and waited 10 minutes. It was such a great day at the park. Everything was handled almost perfect today. The new Coke store is amazing!!! Any flavor you want with anything. Can't wait to see what they have in store for the future.

Just because you said that - whenever I get to Six Flags Great Adventure, I will refuse to take that shot.

Very good trip report.

A new haunt was announced yesterday for Valleyfair! It's called Camp Wekilou ("We-Kill-Ooo"), and will be located in the Picnic Cove area.

The Haunt will be unique in that guests will have to pass through a gate that normally leads out of the park to a newly fenced in area where VF's Picnic area is located.

As far as the theme, guests will find themselves in a Summer Camp being re-opened years after a tragic accident. Think Camp Gonngetcha with a better name

Yes the area has been quite prone to flooding, and Management heavily debated whether or not to put it in a spot so close to the MN River. Ultimately it was decided that the event was such a success last year, that a new Maze was needed to alleviate crowds. This was the area they thought could be used best.
