Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

It depends on the financial situation, which we enthusiasts have no knowledge about.

If they're looking to up the ante on revenue, you will see some type of major investment. Such is the case with Delirium. They park has been going for similar sized investments the past few years. Due to the obvious sign that i305 didn't usher in a new wave of thrill rides for the park, the next coaster will likely be more demographically inclined. Something like a B&M wing, an Intamin or Mack family coaster.

However, the park may still be trying to find its footing ( ) and Delirium is a gamble on the high-thrill market again,

Getting Delirium makes it MUCH less likely for us to get a coaster next year. My guess is 2018.

2017

This is why this thread is so annoying. And why did you just change your age from 21 to 15?

1. Got the year column wrong

2. Why is this thread annoying? Aren't you used to speculation by now?

^Speculation is educated inferences backed up by reasoning, done in a respectful manner. Not posting some baseless information, then spamming others' posts throwing your ideas back out with no regard to what you're replying to at all.

The rest is self-explanatory and I shouldn't need to tell you why this thread is annoying.

I apologize then.

I can say based on the outside perspective of an enthusiast that Intimidator 305... didn't go as planned to say the least. The whole wheel melting fiasco and the blackouts as well as the re-profiling and the redone restraints were all a bit unwarranted and caused them to spend an estimated $7 million extra on the coaster. I can't say for sure but I have a feeling this whole thing played a major role in influencing the other giga coaster on the North side of the border. I also think that I305 didn't really make attendance spike as much as they had hoped. Another reason Carowinds got the huge investment over KD (despite the location and government funding) is because one of the upper management workers (I believe it was the CEO or Rob Decker, or someone else high up) said that once they added Intimidator, they saw a massive spike in attendance and they decided to continue development in the area. That makes me think that I305 up north didn't have as much as an effect, otherwise we would have seen another large investment by now. Honestly, for once I have no idea what the future holds for this park, good or bad. But I think unless attendance increases by a lot they won't be seeing to many more extra-large coasters

Wow I had no idea KD spent an additional $7 million on Intimidator 305. It's no wonder KD hasnt gotten a new coaster since then, especially if they didnt see a huge ROI.

That $25 million wing coaster seems very distant. Maybe they could tear down Hurler and put a nice GCI there instead.

I find that weird cause CW got leviathan and I'm pretty sure that was at least 25 million and on top of that they got a triotech and they're getting 2 awesome flats for 2016... I just find it odd that the other big parks are getting so much. I'm not complaining though.

CW's pulls in much bigger numbers than KD, so I can see why they're getting additions more often.

I'm just going to say this; The southern U.S and Virginia in particular really received an absolute monster with I305, the likes of which they've never seen. I mean, how many rides in that area are that intense? It was a completely new experience for most people, one that 99% of people had never even come close to in terms of intensity. If it had been built at lets say the Northeast U.S it would have been a bit different because we have El Toro, Bizarro at SFNE, rides that already are intense so people are accustomed to it. But in the Mid Atlantic, there's nothing like that and I think people (even enthusiasts initially) were simply not ready for it.

But I think people have gotten used to it now. The level of hype it generates in the park is impressive. The station is always loud, people yelling and cheering, it's pretty great. It's definitely not for anyone who can't handle it, but I think that parks having one insane ride that takes guts to conquer is a good thing; which is why I think KD should go with something less intense for their next installment. Something that the GP will love and want to re-ride, but at the same time enthusiasts can enjoy (and If they whine about forcelessness they can shut up and go ride I305 next door )

I've been thinking of a GCI Hurler replacement for a while now. After riding Thunderhead, I would love to see a similar layout with lots if crossovers and turns. But of course, i'm just wildly speculating based on my personal preference so I don't think it's gonna happen

It is from my understanding from the word that went around after the 2010 season is that Intamin paid for the changes.

^I wouldn't be surprised. After all it was Intamin's fault that it all happened.

If CF used more land for the project there may have been enough room for an overbank. Thus fixing all the first turn issues.

Oh gosh if there was an overbank right after the first drop all of the cp fanboys would be saying that I305 was a rip off of MF...

By that logic then intimidator is a ripoff of maverick because of the color scheme and the twists and turns... Smh enthusiasts
