Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

P. 767: WinterFest Media Night Report

I actually rather enjoyed Anaconda when I rode it last summer. I would be a little sad to see it go, I feel like it adds more diversity to the park’s coaster collection. I just hope that if they do remove it then they put in something really cool over the lake… A wing rider that comes close to skimming the surface?

I didn't hate Anaconda but I think it's because I'm pretty tall and Arrow loopers don't pound my ears the way they used to. I rode it with my girlfriend this year and I thought it was decent so in the brake run I said something to that extent and she looked back at me like I was crazy and said it was the worst ride she had ever ridden. I'll trust her judgement... tear this ride down.

Hopefully Anaconda is gone soon... the ride sits on some real estate that can be put into much better use. Rode it in summer 2011, and it's probably one of the most boring coasters I've ridden (didn't even bother with it last summer). It just didn't do much to me (and it's certainly not smooth either).

I already predicted this but something told me that either Shockwave or Anaconda were on borrowed time. I liked Anaconda when I went on it this summer. The Loop/Immelmann combo was very intense but I didn't like those banked turns before the corkscrews because they caused my neck to whack against the harness (sitting in the front seat prevents this btw) And the corkscrews surprisingly had some pops of airtime.

While I have nothing against Intamin, B&M, Mauer-Sohne, MACK or Gerstlauer. It just breaks my heart to see that one day Arrows and Schwarzkopfs will become extinct

^I wouldn't call those turns "banked"--I would say "contorted" or perhaps "misshapen." I think that bit before the corkscrews is the most messed up mass of coaster track in the U.S.

It would sadden me if Anaconda went down (as well as any of the Kings Dominion rides), because even though there are the rough rides, it is a ride that I grew up with. However if the park can't afford to keep up with it, then they should put the ride down if need be. I love all the rides at KD, and for any of them it would be sad to see any of them go. (Yes, even the Grizzly )

I think it'd be unfortunate if Cedar Fair retired all their Arrow loopers. I genuinely enjoy most Arrow loopers, and rarely receive any head banging from them due to my head being above the restraints... not sure how a lot of adults receive so much head banging from them?

Aaand I'll just crawl back under my one person Arrow fanboy rock now

I absolutely prefer Anaconda over Vortex. That said, I wouldn't bat a lash at them removing either of them. They both felt like they were on borrowed time when I rode them. Vortex was especially traumatic. Had I not ridden Son of Beast that day, Vortex would have been the worst coaster experience I've ever had.

The only Arrow loopers within Cedar Fair that I feel any attachment to and would be sad to see go are Corkscrew at CP and (especially this one) Demon at CGA. Demon was my first looping coaster and still is a great ride, I've yet to experience smoother corkscrews on any coaster.

The post wasn't a joke, but the picture was. It was photoshopped so Screamscape took it down.

Have you seen a picture of Anaconda being dismantled floating around the internet? Have no fear... It has been CONFIRMED that Anaconda is still in 1 piece and as of now will remain for the 2013 season!

I say get rid of the both of them and install something better.

Anaconda had the underwater tunnel (which was sorta cool), but it wasn't a great coaster by any means. I rode Vortex this year and can honestly say that I didn't have a pleasant ride. As a matter of fact, none of the people in my group were impressed with it either.

I can say that it would look REALLY weird if Corkscrew didn't go over the midway at Cedar Point! Just like LNM, it is more iconic than anything else. I could honestly see them getting rid of Iron Dragon before Corkscrew.

Iron Dragon is one of the last of it's kind, so I hope not.

Corkscrew is a classic and a good no-frills looping coaster.
