Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

P. 778: Pantherian project update!

Recommended Posts

305 could use a winkie. Since most of it was neutered last season.

I would have to totally disagree. Maybe to those people who live next door to the park and all they do is whine and complain every time a light bulb burns out in the park, but to someone who lives 3,000 miles away, and rode the coaster 50 times pre-trims and about 30 times post-trims I liked the ride EXACTLY the same in both configurations.

I do not think the trims took away nor added anything to the ride.

It still totally kicked ass.

As for the local people who continue to complain about i305? If you can't appreciate that you have one of the BEST STEEL COASTERS IN THE WORLD in your backyard, go ride something else like Anaconda or Shockwave then, and STFU.

First, I blame myself for temporarily derailing this thread with an off-topic "winkie" joke. My apologies.

Second, I've ridden I-305 numerous times, both pre- and post-trims, and have always thought that the ride is top-ten (probably top-five) material, especially with the new restraints (a change that I think was far more significant than the trims).

^The new restraints are AWESOME!

Robb, I feel the same exact way about 305 pre-trims and post-trims, both versions were awesome.

Pre-trims the ride had an awesome drop and great air on the second hill. Post-trims the ride had enjoyable "twistys" and great air on the third hill. Both versions had plenty of advantages and a few disadvantages. Pre-trims the "twistys" were almost too extreme and the trims on the third hill killed that air. Post-trims you can feel the trims (only if you are paying attention to the feeling instead of the kick-a$$ view) and the air on the second hill is only slightly floater air now (I only think the trims suck in the dark because you aren't focusing on the view since you can't see a thing!).

KD is the closest park to me (3 1/2 hour drive) and I went to the park 6 times this year because of this coaster. I have always been a KD "fanboy" but only went to the park twice a year before Intimidator 305 was put in. I plan on going 4+ times next year as well due to the addition of 305. I consider myself to be extemely lucky that my favorite coaster is in my "home" park. Carowinds is only 15-20 minutes farther from my house, but I only went there once this year. Their Intimidator is fun, yet lacking the intensity and thrill that 305 has IMO.

As far as this new situation goes, it really is too early to tell, and everything is speculation. All I know is I'll be there on Opening Day (April 2nd 2011) to check out what they did!

I305 is still holding down #2 in my steel top 10, and that's not going to change any time soon. I've ridden the ride in every configuration possible (pre- and post-trims, pre- and post-soft restraints), so that just shows you what I think of the ride. It's not even funny how much better it is than anything else at that park.

I305 was my #1 steel pre-trim and tied for #1 post-trim. I'm just curious if the removal of that section of the track is the sign of something significant coming or just some minor tweaking. I think there could be some interesting possiblilities out there. I do agree with Robb that hounding KD for comment is a little ridiculous at this point.

^Judging by the lines on the last saturday of the season so did a majority of the GP as well.

Whatever changes are being made may prove to be for the better....might we be seeing just lapbars next season? It's just that when you look at a ride that appears to be in the initial stages of deconstruction it makes you wonder(or fear) that the ride is being removed after only one season of operation.

My response is "Heavens to Murgatroyd." Why would one assume that? I-305 is a great ride and huge investment for the park.

After following these recent developments, I got to thinking.

How many times has it been asked on here before I-305 when there would be another gigacoaster in the U.S. (or world for that matter)? I think most of the people on this board would of given their left kidney to have one within a day's drive of their house.

Now, that one has finally been built again, it is amazing how quickly some of you have forgotten what a rare roller coaster that has been built here. Instead of just picking apart every possible negative aspect of the ride, why can't we all just appreciate what an amazing creation this ride is. I have not ridden this ride, so I have no dog in this fight, but PLEASE a freaking trim break or a re-profile isn't going to change the fact that we have a world-class attraction on our hands.

^ This.

I am fourteen years old, and because I will probably never ride a ride of this caliber until I reach adulthood, I just appreciate it. Not being much of an enthusiast, but knowing information and following this website has its perks. I ride rides for enjoyment, not to find issues and problems with them. Enough with the biography, I feel the trims added to the hang time, and due to my small size, I felt as if I was thrusted into restraint the whole drop. So while some of you complain, I will be counting down the hours until next years KD trip.

I may not have mentioned airtime is the best thing in the world.

I haven't seen much negativity. Just speculation.
