atem122
I know they are totally structurally sound, but those connectors connecting the supports to the track connector are really skimpy looking. With those and its truss lift hill, this ride will be a nightmare to those who don't trust the structural validity of coasters
kingsdominionlvr
^ That's not a bad thing! Just a few less people in the huge line for I305 to increase my wait time!
The Disneylander
Great pics, thanks for sharing. Shaping up to be one heck of a coaster.
kingsdominionlvr
^I concur, it's a combination of so many great coasters that I love. It's got the Millennium Force first drop, megalite first turn, megalite/SROS airtime hills, Maverick turns. Â I think Intamin has taken many of the wasted opportunities of Millennium Force with this giga. Hopefully they get it right and I305 doesn't crawl over the airtime hills with little ejector air like MF does. Â Will this storm into the number spot on all the coaster polls, time will tell... Â This coaster looks like the culmination of all of the greatest features of Intamin's various coasters. It certainly has already changed the skyline of Kings Dominion, even barely reaching its full height. If the real ride experience is anything near as good as the virtual POV video makes it look, I could find it very reasonable for this coaster to be ranked in the top 5 in the Golden Ticket Awards next year. downunder
^I'm certainly very optimistic about this coaster, but I will wait and see what the reviews are like. Â For someone who lives overseas, KD is a bit out of the way (i.e. nowhere near any hub airports and difficult to get to by public transport). So it is a bit of a travel commitment for one coaster, so I'll wait and see how good it is. Then if I'm in the US next year maybe I'll make a special trip to try it. Â I305 should do well in the Golden Tickets, they love Millenniun Force and this is MF made better (at least in my opinion).
JEAPUgrad
That's looking freaking great already, but the track still have go like 100feet op in the air before it reaches the top. Â The I305 blog lists the height of the first tower thats currently errected at 240 feet. Â The coaster still has another 65 feet to go. Â After looking at that amazing drop, I wonder if they considered lowering the first turnaround closer to the ground or adding a tunnel. That would've been awesome. wlmoorer
It will be really interesting to see the comparisons between both Intimidator coasters once the reviews start coming in. They are very different styles of coasters (Carowinds is more traditional out-and-back with airtime hills and KD's is more of a low to the ground twister style with an emphasis on speed)! I think both parks have some real winners on their hands...i know it is way too early to start speculating but the similar rides that B&M and Intamin have made (Diamondback, Goliath, etc.. and Millinieum Force) I think its going to be a great year for both Carowinds and KD! cfc
^Agreed--the two Intimidators are the main reason I renewed my Cedar Fair pass. I've always thought that Carowinds was a "nice" park that needed something big to put it on the map--the addition of Intimidator should give the park another first-class coaster to go with Afterburn. Â And I like it that KD's Intimidator will be an entirely different ride experience.
Wood Dragon 1988
LOL Brent if you ever need a ride from National Airport to KD just let me know. Â Â As far as what I think of the coaster, I think we all need to wait and see. I mean, we haven't seen anything like this with those restraints. So, I'll post my thoughts this spring/summer when it opens
jason10
I really do like the look of this coaster. At first, I wasn't fond of it, but now I realise that the layout is truly awesome! The big drop, the low to the ground turns and most importantly, the airtime! The skyline looks great already and I look forward to seeing how this is going to turn out. Not only in an actual ride experience, but how the public take it! Obviously they are going to love it, if they love Hurler. Next year is certainly going to be a great year for Kings Dominion and from the looks of the webcam, construction is coming on nicely!
nolimits
It almost looks like its going to fall apart without the rest of the lift hill... I can't wait to finally ride this thing in 2010!
themeparkman25
^It is being held up by guide wires right now on both sides. So it is in good hands. Â UNLESS of course it is being held up by Intamin cables. Then there is no guarantees it'll be left standing, or santa won't be shot out of the sky. odene497
That turn is HUGEEEEEEEE. And I think the teensy supports on the drop are insufficient. Can't wait to see more, this might actually make me want to step inside Kings Dominion.

coastercrzyjames
Wow, I305 is definitely coming together quite nicely. That high speed low turn looks like it'll be pretty fun. I really can't wait to get out and ride this next season. Maybe I'll need to plan a trip to VA again in the fall.
DBru
Amazing pictures! Thanks for sharing. Â This coaster is going to be absolutely HUGE!
wlmoorer
I think I305's Lift hill will look even more impressive than MF because when MF opened CP already had Power Tower on the skyline to give MF's lift hill a certain sense of scale, but KD has nothing close to compare with the size of I305's lifthill, so it will actually "appear" to be larger than it really is. Â There is no doubt it will be an impressive sight to see!
Capitalize
Looks awesome. I can't wait to get on in the back seat and see how great the transition between that sweet looking drop and high speed turn is.

I believe both are pretty close to I305 height.  Even so, it will still look very impressive.
wlmoorer
^ I stand corrected...Drop Zone's tower is exactly 305 ft. tall and the Eiffel Tower is a 1:3 Replica of the original so it is over 300 ft as well! Â My apologies, I retract my previous statement!
CoasterAnne
October 26, 2009 The I305 first drop support structure has been topped off with the last pieces of yellow steel. The next step is to top it off with a big red piece of lift hill structure that will tie in the three pieces (yellow support, double spine track and main lift hill). Once that is completed, attention will turn to the station end of the lift hill. The second yellow support structure will be assembled and the BIG RED lift hill will start its climb.   With the wet weather this weekend the work area has become a big bowl of pudding! Picture yourself taking two solid steps, and then on the third, sink into mud over the tops of your shoes, not fun. The crew shifted their attention and spent some time assembling more of the first turn. These areas can be reached with 6 – 10 foot ladders and a smaller crane, so these pieces go up pretty fast.   We will be moving the webcam position after the park closes for the season. This will give everyone a great overhead view of the work site for the remainder of the project. It may take us a day or two in order to get the equipment repositioned, so please be patient.   Please enjoy all the new pictures that have just been posted, more to come!  - John Pagel
JEAPUgrad
The Eiffel Tower's height is 331' 6" as I posted after my visit to the park on Sept 4th. Â I rode up in the Tower and the op gave that as the height of the tower.
Tunaboy407
they moved the webcam into a beautiful position and now you can really see the entire site. The cam is on top of drop tower.
