Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

I don’t see them relocating it within the chain. It really costed a lot of money to maintain. They want to get that thing out of here as quick as they can! Possessed seemed like the least popular coaster in the park as it had an even shorter line than all of the rest of them...which is kind of a hard task to accomplish. Smart move by Cedar Fair especially if they have plans to replace that ride as well.

Also leaves you wondering if Demon Drop’s days are numbered. Doesn’t seem like as much of a pain to keep up compared to Possessed, but it isn’t very popular at all either.

If we all pool our stimulus checks we could buy DD and put it in someone's yard.

It's too bad impulses aren't a little more popular, but other than maybe Wicked Twister when it was new I don't think I've ever waited in a line for one. Any launch is a fun launch and they're definitely unique. But even Wicked Twister keeps popping up in rumors to be on the chopping block so maybe impulses aren't long for the world.

Apparently... According to plans that were filed with the South Whitewall Township, that you can find online... It's going to be a Gravity Group shuttle coaster! About twice the size of Switchback at ZDT's! Sounds like it will be a great addition to the park, and a great replacement for the Possessed/Stinger area.

It does look great! Keep in mind this could easily get pushed back to 2022 or later given current events. Just don’t want people to get their hopes up too much and get let down. I think it will happen, but it remains to be seen when.

Especially given that Cedar Fair said they were suspending at least $75-100 million of non-essential capital in the 2020 and 2021 season.

Not surprising given that an annual pass for Cedar Fair is currently good for 2 years in light of the pandemic.

Very true. It's just nice to know that there is hope the park will actually be getting a decently awesome new coaster... eventually!

Yeah, I do see the coaster eventually happening. If it is a Gravity Group Shuttle Coaster, then the park picked literally the perfect coaster for that location. It will be a good mix between family and thrills which the park really could use more of. Also, the park seems to be attracting more families in recent years with the Pre-K Pass and special events. Glad Cedar Fair finally decided to invest in the dry park, and I am hoping it gets received well so we could see a brighter future for this place.

A few years ago, Dorney had the highest visit per season pass in the entire company. Dorney is a great family park, it sucks that CF hasnt invested more over the years.

I can see this coaster happening too along with the removal of Possessed because it's probably sort of a marketable budget cut. I'd imagine it would be infinitely cheaper to operate and maintain than Possessed.

That said, I don't really care either. I couldn't even tell you if I prefer Switchback or Possessed. They're both fun and while they're dramatically different I don't think one stands out as being notably better than the other. I'm not exactly convinced this is an upgrade but I absolutely get why they would do it.

Bummed another GL ride may be permanently biting the dust, but if/when this coaster happens it would get me back out to Dorney for an afternoon on my way to or from SFGAdv with a stop at Knoebels included. Gotta prioritize.

I mean, I think most people already assumed that it was the township that canceled the meeting as it stated on the South Whitehall Township website that the other presenters for the meeting also “withdrew”. However, that extra part about them going to that other group to get their approval on it is a good piece of info. The next South Whitehall Township meeting is towards the end of this month so maybe we will get some more info then.

So with Hershey opening soon hopefully Dorney (or well Allentown) gets things sorted soon so my friend can pick up his season pass so we can head out to Kings Island and CP for passholder preview.

But that may be a tall order

You know you don't need your physical card, right?

So long as you have the piece of paper indicating the Platinum Pass has been purchased, you can bring that to any CF park and have it processed into a physical card, regardless of where it was purchased.

It's not like Six Flags where you have to go to your "home park" first.

I feel like as a potential replacement for Possessed, a shuttle woodie is pretty good...about equal. But seeing as how it could end up being a replacement for Possessed AND Stinger, it seems to me to be a little bit of a downgrade. I understand Stinger sort of sucked but still think that Possessed+Stinger>one shuttle woodie.

But best case scenario here is them getting the new ride and also keeping Possessed. Hoping for that!

I actually didn't. Being longer Six Flags holders maybe that is why. I'll look into this. We're trying to head over to CP and KI for opening possibly and that would be a lifesaver.

I consider the proposed new coaster to just be a replacement for Stinger as I am sure they will eventually replace Possessed with something else down the road. That won’t be for a VERY long time of course. Just like how Kings Dominion’s rumored free spin is a Crypt replacement, and most likely another coaster will be placed in Volcano’s spot...eventually.
