Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom Discussion Thread

p. 201 - Iron Menace announced for 2024!

According to the GM the 360 trains won't work, so don't expect those.

It not so much they won't work, there's no point on having a modern train that can maneuver curvy, modern track designs more easily, but overkill for a 90+ year old figure-8 out-and-back coaster design.

I have a feeling they'll go with the same 3-bench trains, but using the articulating chassis instead of the old fixed. Puts a lot less wear and tear on the track. Knowing Mike Fehnel though, they'll more than likely be keeping the single-position lap bars and not switch over to the ratcheting lap bars. Unknown whether or not they'll be keeping the headrests though.

I've seen that the 360s are to heavy for the track.

I was going to try defending that lead car with the bird on it because I didn't really think it looked that bad, but now I'm looking at it again and... yeah, it's pretty awful. It's really more bizarre then anything. Like I'm looking at it and trying to imagine it in person and it's really hard. There's like three separate black metal cut-outs next to each other each representing... what exactly? Feathered tentacles with a claw on the end? Bird feet don't look anything like that.

I'm really hoping the buzz bars stay, but I believe Thunderhawk is the only woodie in any Cedar Fair park that doesn't have ratcheting lap bars. I wouldn't be surprised if the buzz bars go, I'll just be extremely sad.

Really bummed the buzz bars will be gone. I feel like every classic coaster needs to maintain buzz bars or whatever classic restraint system they had.

Are any woodies left in the CF chain with buzz bars?

I am so glad Great American Scream Machine has buzz bars still, it makes for wonderful airtime instead of feeling pinned down by an oddly shaped lap bar.

Whoa. Creep alert.

Montgomery County man accused of recording children changing clothes in Dorney Park

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) --

A Montgomery County man is accused of producing child pornography for approximately 10 years including secretly recording children changing their clothes in Dorney Park.

Kurt Eichert, 51, of Wyndmoor, Pa., was charged Thursday by indictment with one count of production of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography, United States Attorney Zane David Memeger announced.

The indictment alleges about June 2005 to about September 2015, Eichert produced child pornography.

Federal officials say Eichert secretly recorded children changing their clothes in Dorney Park in Allentown.

Eichert is also charged with distributing child pornography in May 2015 and possessing images of child pornography in September 2015.

If convicted, Eichert faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison with a maximum possible sentence of 80 years.

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations ("HSI") and the Abington Township Police Department.

To be completely honest at first glance it looked like sludge to me until I had the chance to find the eyes and beak. Regardless, might be cool on one of those new Gravity Group unique wood coasters, but a traditional classic like Thunderhawk? Pass.

Well well i guess then its a good thing that they AREN'T going on ThunderHawk. That is the car produced for the IAAPA trade show. Those cars have an American flag paint job with an EAGLE on the front not a hawk. Mike was simply showing a few photos of PTC's shop. The new ThunderHawk trains are very traditional 3 seat cars with lap bars but will look much better than the previous trains.

I know it sucks that the single position handrails have to go but the latest accident in Arizona is a perfect example of why manufacturers and parks can't rely on people's common sense anymore. That is common sense in its own right.

We're not getting a custom coaster... It would be such a waste of money at this park since most of the time it would just run half-empty trains. I want one, but it's probably not happening. They should stick to family rides, water park expansions and additions and an occasional relocated coaster.

i saw elsewhere on here that there are strong rumors of a 2017 coaster for us, i feel out of the loop what are the rumors stating?

Most rumors point to a GCI woodie because they said so.

Who is "they"

People who start and spread rumors.

Touché.

And clearly coasterbill has never been to the park when it is busy....

Nope... and I go to the park a lot. Usually during Haunt or Saturdays in the summer. Last year we went on Memorial Day and you're right, it's never been busy. That's kind of my point.
