paiging_jen
So they are blaming 35 mph winds for causing the ship to break loose. Since when have 35 mph winds done something like this? That's a normal summer storm wind in Florida and I've never heard of this happening. Something seems fishy.

Its 70 MPH Update on Carnival Triumph in Mobile, AL April 3, 2013, 7PM ET Earlier this afternoon, due to strong winds that reached speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour during a severe storm in Mobile, Ala., Carnival Triumph, which was in wet dock at a Mobile shipyard, broke away from its moorings. The ship drifted, and was secured. With the assistance of tugboats on site, the ship has been moved to the Mobile Cruise Terminal. Lines have moored the ship, and, as a precaution, tugboats will remain alongside the vessel as well. All of the approximately 600 crew and 200 contractors who were onboard the vessel are safe and have been accounted for through a roll call. There are no reports of injuries. While assessment of damage to the ship is ongoing, initial indications suggest the damage is limited. According to reports, two shipyard employees on an adjacent pier fell into the water. One has reportedly been rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard and the search continues for the second. Our thoughts and prayers are with the missing shipyard employee and the family. OISU8P
Regardless or it being winds of 35 or 7O MPH, with this being Alabama it was most likely this guy tying the boat down (or one of his cousins \ brother in-laws). This was bound to happen, however the sheep is a OK..

Its 70 MPH Update on Carnival Triumph in Mobile, AL I guarantee if the same thing happened to Carnival you wouldn't be saying that... They are handling the situation pretty well. CARNIVAL TRIUMPH - Update February 10, 2013 – 7.30PM EST This morning the cruise ship Carnival Triumph experienced an engine room fire while the vessel was sailing approximately 150 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The ship’s automatic fire extinguishing systems activated and the fire was contained to the aft engine room. At this time, the fire is fully extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries to guests or crew. All appropriate authorities including U.S. Coast Guard have been notified. The vessel is currently without propulsion and the ship is operating on emergency generator power. The ship's technical crew has determined the vessel will need to be towed to port. A tugboat is en route to the ship's location and will tow the vessel to Progreso, Mexico, which is the closest port to the ship’s current location. This will enable us to disembark guests and get them home as quickly as possible. The ship is expected to arrive in Progreso Wednesday afternoon and guests will be flown from there back to the U.S. There are 3,143 guests and 1,086 crew on board. Guests are being provided with food and refreshments. Another Carnival ship, the Carnival Elation, is currently on scene and transferring additional food and beverage provisions to the Carnival Triumph. We have contacted the designated emergency contacts for all guests presently on board Carnival Triumph. Concerned family and loved ones of guests and crew may call 888.290.5095 or 305.406.5534. All guests on the current Carnival Triumph voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise, along with transportation expenses. In addition, they will receive a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage, as well as reimbursement of all shipboard purchases during the voyage, with the exception of gift shop and casino charges. The next two voyages of Carnival Triumph, scheduled to depart Monday, February 11 and Saturday, February 16 are being cancelled. Guests scheduled to sail on either of those voyages will receive a full refund, reimbursement for non-refundable travel expenses and a 25 percent discount on a future three to five-day cruise. Carnival is in contact with impacted guests to advise them of the situation. The current Carnival Triumph voyage departed Galveston, Texas on Thursday, February 7 and was scheduled to return on Monday, Feb. 11. You're busted Carnival fanboy. Don't you have something better to do then go through all my posts looking for things I said about Carnival? I don't think Carnival is the best cruise line, but you can still enjoy it if you know what to expect. If you have a group of college guys looking for a spring break cruise; why not chose Carnival? If I had a family; of course I would chose a different cruise line but when money is tight and you can get a 5 night cruise for $220 its a great bargain. It may not be Royal Caribbean, but I was able to get a deal on NCL for under $500 for 7 nights to the Caribbean. I have it booked to go to Cozumel, Isla Roatan, Belize, and Coasta Maya. I would chose that in an instant over nearly the exact dates over a RCL that goes to only Cozumel and Key West on one of their smaller ships on a 5 night cruise. robbalvey
^ It was a joke. Chill the f**k out Carnival Fanboy. I also find it hilarious how Carnival fanboys defend them because they are "cheap" when it was actually interesting that we recently found that RCCL and NCL, which are by FAR a better product, were actually less expensive than some of the Carnival offerings. Defend the cruise line all you want, that's fine. That still doesn't change that fact that they are "Wal-Mart of the Seas" which markets themselves to a "cheaper" clientele, even if they aren't the lowest priced cruise on the market. If you were smart enough to do your research, you would know this. But you're probably too busy sucking down Bud Light's on a Carnival ship.... --Robb "Can't stand Carnival cruisers as they are just as disgusting as the parent company they patronize." ernierocker
^^It took me less than a minute, because 3 of your last 5 posts were making excuses for Carnival. Sticking up for Carnival is like sticking up for the seedy Motel 6 in the bad part of town. If you are going to do it on this forum, be prepared for ridicule. It is as simple as that. Jew
For those of you in so cal who happen to check KNX1070 for traffic, a local plumbing company is running an ad taking shots at Carnival. The gist of it is that a family requests a plumber for a week because "they are going on a cruise and want him to be there just in case there is a plumbing emergency like clogged toilets or no running water" Loved it! I like a good deal just as much as the next guy, so I'm a LOT like you, and I'd probably choose something lesser than RCL as well. Then I remember how I actually like to enjoy the ship's surroundings, food, entertainment, accommodations, hospitality, and general ability to be seaworthy....and I wisely pick RCL. jray21
It's obvious that the ship is trying to kill itself because it's a Carnival ship. Someone needs to put it out of it's misery. Just tear it down for scrap metal to build Daewoo cars and Walmart shopping carts.
