The Cruise Ship and Cruise Line Discussion Thread!

Recommended Posts

It is hard to believe that the ship was there for so long. They were extremely lucky that the potential complications that could have come up along the way did not happen... It'll be especially interesting to see the photos from the scrapping process once it begins.

Exciting times coming up!!

Quantum of the Seas to leave building dock II

On Saturday, 09. August 2014 the 167.800-gt cruise ship Quantum of the Seas , the third largest cruise ship in the world, will leave MEYER WERFT’s covered building dock II. The float-out of the ship, built for US cruise operator Royal Caribbean International , will commence around 07:30 a.m.

Following the float-out, the Quantum of the Seas will be berthed alongside the yard's pier for one night, before being turned on 10 August for the thruster and stabiliser tests.

With the ship berthed at the yard's pier, the remaining works as well as tests and trials will be carried out on board until the ship’s conveyance down the river Ems to the North Sea, which is scheduled for the middle of September.

The float-out will be broadcast via webcam on http://www.meyerwerft.com

From Royal Caribbean Blog...

www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2014/08/08/quantum-of-the-seas-float-out-delayed-few-days

Quantum of the Seas float out delayed for a few days.

Royal Caribbean's brand new Quantum of the Seas will have to wait a few days more for its float out from its Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

Quantum of the Seas will now be floated out on August 12, 2014 at 4pm local time.

It had previously been scheduled to float out on August 9 but a poor weather forecast forced Meyer Werft to delay.

If all goes well, she will begin her thruster and stabilizer tests following the float out.

I am interested to see the North Star getting installed and it operating.

There's a new cutaway that Royal Caribbean posted, but I am interested to what the rest of the "More to Come" blocks on the deck plans pan out to me. I am actually really excited for this ship class!

^ I am super excited about them, will be so great to use this for charging at the pool!

Has anyone seen any photos of the actual North Star? I haven't seen any actual photos of the attraction itself yet.

I have been keeping an eye on the webcam, but no luck.

^Yeah, there were pictures of it being welded and put together somewhere in Poland right now. Should be on the ship in a couple of weeks for sea trials. Hopefully it goes better than the Oasis Blimp did during sea trials!

Broke off and was found a few weeks later!

^I believe Royal Caribbean said it would be 'setup' for Dynamic Dining during the refurb but it wouldn't go into effect until March.

My parents are on the transatlantic now so I'm hoping they'll hear some actual confirmations on all the drydock stuff happening.
