What Was the Last Beer You Drank?

Had some friends over for the Carolina vs Montreal hockey game last night...

First up was Sleemans Fine Porter. This one better be good, we bought a 12 pack for the 1st big BBQ of the year this weekend.

Sounds good.

Looks good, smells good, tastes good. It isn't the best beer I've had, but it was enjoyable.

Uh oh.

I wasn't quite expecting it to be that light.

20 minutes later. Wow. I think this is one of the worst tasting (and smelling..) beers I've had in a long, long time! I really enjoyed the Faxe Amber and the Faxe Festbock, but this one was just bad.

Now its time for some Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse.

Mmm, very tasty. Definatly the best one we had all night.

I washed my car, cleaned out the garage so I can fit the car into it instead of parking it in the street (stupid trees dumping flowers and crap!). Afterwards, it was beer time!

Nice easy to drink stout! I like the vanilla hints in it

Tonight I tried the Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout, in a Stoudt's glass

Had a Terrapin RyePA and a Stoudt Double IPA. I really liked the Terrapin. The Stoudt really threw me off because it was so sweet. Really strong caramel flavor, and you couldn't taste the alchohol at all for a beer that was over 12% ABV.

The beer release parties at DuClaw have been coming fast and furious lately, as this was the second one this month. The featured attraction this time, a completely new brew from the folks at DuClaw. The Berserkr Baltic Porter. As usual, Kim and Jay and I had to investigate.

This button pretty much summed up the evening. Good times! Thanks for reading.

Finally, it's release video time. This one was actually pretty good, as it utilized the majority of it's footage from the criminally underrated Jim Carrey flick, The Cable Guy.

Time for a special bonus BTR, as Kim and I stopped off for a beer run at my favorite beer store, Shawan Liquors. This is actually down the street from where I work and is always convenient. I'm leaving the job at the end of next week, so I won't be able to visit quite as much but that's OK, as I really hate my job!

Finally, the spoils of our search. The Troegs Sunshine Pils and some Victory Whirlwind Witbier. We shall enjoy! Thanks for reading.

While rummaging through the coolers, we discovered a new Troegs beer. The "Heath Face" Hefe.

Plus they carry a ton of stuff from everywhere from the East Coast to the West Coast to everywhere in between. As well as a great selection of imports. Something I really need to try more of.

This place has just an awesome selection of case, six-packs, and singles.

Last night I was down in Fredonia, so some of my friends and I went to the Ellicottville Brewing Company. It used to be Barker Brew. I had the blueberry wheat and tried everybody else's stuff too, lol.

^ Now you are perfect!

Starting out the weekend's beer recap, we find me once again at the Philadelphia Airport on Friday night.

Disney040603.jpg.550b11861c66029153ca92c3098c7b2c.jpg

Then I tried the Yard's Philly Pale Ale, which started out weird, but I think I was hopped out from the 113. By the end it was pretty tasty.

Disney040602.jpg.0a553ea663e5a040d780f9a355478e7b.jpg

Started out with the Sly Fox Rt 113 IPA, on tap. Quite good!

Disney040601.jpg.a583cd18ead0be0b46700e948d26cb87.jpg

Another 2 hours early for my flight, guess I'll have to drink!

On Saturday I did some Disney parks, and the crowds and lack of good beer had me in a less than charming mood. All that would change though once I visited Soren and Stefan for some good brews in Germany!

Disney0406102.jpg.969c844890292284f7189c9657d7b7ce.jpg

And no trip to Germany would be complete without Soren

I'm quite happy with my Spaten Optimator

I was planning on going to Big River Brewing Company at Disney's Boardwalk Resort after Illuminations, but they have some weird seating policy. High table with high chairs in the bar area usually means to me bar. Apparently things are different here. I didn't feel like being outside, nor waiting 30 minutes, so we skipped it. (its ok, I had sake with dinner)

Sunday while stuck at the airport for an extra 3.5 hours, Greg and I decided to kick back at the Fox Sports Club.

Disney0406229.jpg.e04b27093b638892ec85f2d11d4e683e.jpg

and had I known that the flight would be an additional 1.5 hours more than the 2 it was already delayed, I would have had another tall as well as this small Sam. But I didn't want to be the drunk guy on the next episode of "Airline"

I started out with a tall Sam Adams

Some post coastering brewery stops from this past weekend.

After opening day at Knoebels, Kim and Jay and I stopped at the ABC for a late dinner.

Then on Sunday, after a fun day at SFA, we stopped at the Ellicot Brewing Company on the way home.

1404845794_beer073.jpg.2f2d559b380cbaa77193c055489adbe0.jpg

For an appetizer, we tried some gator tail. It was definitley interesting. Kind of like chicken with the texture of calamari.

297328803_beer076.jpg.098eafc602f6768096d6337048851cc5.jpg

I finished up with the Big Red Bock to go along with my big red sun burnt face.

1567943025_beer067.jpg.2b6875f2ba7b7503340c630f3de033b2.jpg

While Jay tried the Boomerang Lager.

1120459428_beer068.jpg.cae2787a278c574f69bf2a005b9e3638.jpg

I started out with the Kolsch. Rather light and refreshing after a hard day of coastering.

1012638648_beer077.jpg.56e9ff0edeb689dcd46d0278a42b2efd.jpg

They actually had a decent selection of stuff on tap, mostly all of a German style.

2034562802_beer070.jpg.283ce9b89accebe45e0b12125a6730a8.jpg

Of course I have to have the obligitory "tanks behind glass" shot, just to make sure you know they are actually brewing beer here.

Welcome to historical Ellicot City, MD. How do we know it's historical? Because the big banner on the light pole says so!

370023524_beer001.jpg.2af4af2e081cf0360c70b44611bc6672.jpg

At the ABC, I had the Hoppy Trails IPA while Jay tried the Watergap Wheat. I didn't dig the Hoppy Trails as much this go around. A little weak.

And now you all know the people I have to deal with day in and day out.

I had a Two Brothers "The Bitter End" last night. One left, I'll take a pic tonight.

I'm putting of packing for my business trip to Phoenix (7:30am flight). So, I'm sampling a local brew here. Two Brother's Brewing "The Bitter End." It's quite bitter, at first but, oh sooo tasty.

A new Victory seasonal is out. The St. Boisterous Hellerbock. This one was allright for a hellerbock. Had both a malt and hop presence but neither one really stood out. The pour was very light. Much more so than I expected. I'm a little dissapointed by this one, especially since it's from Victory. Still, a decent, smooth, sprintime brew.

The Victory St. Boisterous Hellerbock. Unfortunately, there isn't too much in the way of being boisterous about it.

Well tonight is my last night of work at my crappy job, so in celebration, I finally broke into my bottle of Stone Ruination Imperial IPA that I've had in the fridge for awhile now. And it was worth the wait. This has to be one of, if not thee, hoppiest IPAs I've ever had. I was almost hopped out by the end of this one and trust me, that's a big feat! The only drawback was that it had a slight alcohol taste to it but that was only minor. An awesome Imperial IPA and I'm looking forward to visiting the brewery in a couple of weeks.

The Stone Ruination Imperial IPA. It pretty much earned it's name, as it just about ruined by taste buds. In a good way!

Oh, SNAP!! Now I'm even more excited to try. I've also had a bottle of this in my fridge for a few weeks now and I'm looking for the right time to crack it open. Is this like the holy grail for hopheads or what??? Any way, I'll jump in with a couple photos of my own.

Another great IPA! However, there was a touch of anticipointment as it didn't deliver in the hops department as much as I had hoped. Still, quite enjoyable with a strong citrus/grapefruit presence at the finish. Thanks Heath!

This is one I've been looking forward to trying and thanks to Heath, I was able to get that opportunity.
