When you think of Belgium, there's probably not much that comes up your mind. But we are famous for one thing... BEER! With about approximately 8700 beers, we leave other countries far behind.

In the past years, me and my family have been drinking a big range of different beers and have visited allot of cafe's. Now my idea was, why not take my camera with me to all the places where they serve my favorite alcohol. It's not without the risk though, when being drunk, stuff gets forgotten or gets broken. That reminds me, I still need to get my videocamera fixed from last year visiting Oktoberfest in Munich, when beer was spilled over.

Trip 1 (Antwerpen - 16th of Januari 2010)

Trip 2: Mini update Beer evening (Lommel - 1th May 2010)

For the first beertrip of 2010, we were visiting Antwerpen. A big city here in Belgium, with much sightseeing places and perfect for shopping!

Trip 1 (Antwerpen - 16th of Januari 2010)

P1000912.jpg.4944fd6e9642196167e9fc6fefbb86f8.jpg

Mmmmm, cookie!

P1000914.jpg.e69a0b89fb2bf4e4b1df8158590e6b75.jpg

But a visit to Antwerp needs a stop at Subway!

P1000911.jpg.c6994b78d19436bb89552dbabac5a4a6.jpg

About 18.00, it was still raining, but you don't give a f*ck about anything when you are feeling a bit tipsy.

P1000908.jpg.b7694653f24ffee2d71b518ccbcc459b.jpg

Well, at this point we were feeling a little bit drunk, so we started throwing beer cards at each other.

(We put them back afterwards).

P1000906.jpg.ac049a829055170bd458abc7fde54da5.jpg

And of course I was skipping to the page with attractions and themeparks.

P1000907.jpg.4083866ccaf815796d3810f36539e5a6.jpg

I decided to read a book...

P1000905.jpg.67601f0c4f27c75be65055c5ba1477bb.jpg

Typical toilets for a cafe.

P1000904.jpg.71ba5892cbe6702dc6e5f897493a27e2.jpg

But the windows stopped me. :'(

P1000893.jpg.557e6efb970e99f0890ffbd94d9e53a5.jpg

Oh my god, I want to break into this room!! :o

P1000903.jpg.98223a294ab01c4391d49b36d3111709.jpg

My Cousin had a Bush de Noël with 13%! Crazy motherf*cker!

P1000899.jpg.e4b4c02aefaff9719b880fe66d6fc7c1.jpg

Lol, the glass was nicely done.

P1000898.jpg.74da57c6fae93148fa5d31ee18270c09.jpg

I had a Silent Night, and indeed, you get silent from it... (12%!)

P1000897.jpg.3b7a2401d2ea92dc2c738c83306fd408.jpg

More beer advertising.

P1000895.jpg.a7627005455ce2b23728a9e931790837.jpg

They even had books to read, or wipe your mouth with when you had to vomit.

P1000894.jpg.9c504c0778fa7c01d1fc8eac955dbfda.jpg

P1000892.jpg.d097ccfc990ff43d13ec977d701cb63b.jpg

Nice atmosphere in here too!

P1000890.thumb.jpg.b103a8953d1091f349e6d352e25d584f.jpg

Notice the spelling...

P1000886.jpg.a864d38451ee78dd2791beb7b53cb00b.jpg

But after a quick check we saw that it was going to open in 20 minutes! :D

P1000887.jpg.4953361d5e71b61e97de6b134afb70bd.jpg

Next stop was De Kulminator, but it wasn't open... :(

P1000883.jpg.5f13da432e421ee3ae4da6313774734f.jpg

"We come from the land of chocolate"

P1000882.jpg.e73108c67ed2862d2fd42624c4acce1e.jpg

Can you imagine the knights sitting at these tables?

I don't cause it's quite dark...

P1000880.jpg.6f19ac924dbf78e15135aa5c945833b6.jpg

Another picture from the cafe.

P1000879.jpg.5319192f051a31b5c8509c8ff076a528.jpg

Some oldschool decoration.

P1000878.jpg.375bd3ae65ed0e8aa7598176345a9f4d.jpg

But we got popcorn with it! Very strange, cause normally you get nuts or cheese with beer.

P1000876.jpg.693be15076ebc8409c25bc77f1524af2.jpg

But there is a downside about the special decoration and atmosphere.

The prices were quite high! So we just ordered a simple lager, but that was quite expensive too. :s

P1000874.jpg.6994c2a5bc587e58248b67f90b295c14.jpg

There wasn't much light, so I made the picture brighter.

P1000871.jpg.82be610e14303281c523eb8f3bec521e.jpg

The cafe was downstairs.

P1000869.jpg.fdf3d5aaa7a09a6915a8dddadc79b7e1.jpg

And the stories were true! It was decorated as a medieval dungeon or something, the only light came from candles!

P1000868.jpg.7d6d7287ce85de99e9ce8086d893f18f.jpg

After a while, we found it!

I heard some stories about it, how it was decorated...

P1000866.jpg.129b77c7325b92a8d92639fffef01a11.jpg

Next stop was Pelgrom. But we knew only the street name...

(And it was starting to rain!)

P1000865.jpg.f14b26675566d7b718376558f0008ff4.jpg

And if you can't get enough of beer when leaving a cafe, there is always a store nearby.

P1000862.jpg.93da1bc0fcc118b32e4668c51fffa15c.jpg

He ordered a Lucifer. (8,4%)

P1000861.jpg.f7236fa812459db1e927bc02781eac36.jpg

Next up for me was Kwak. Notice the special glass? Well, the key is to drink it slowly, cause when after a while, there is getting air in the round bubble at the bottom, you get a tidal wave of beer on your shirt if you drink too fast!

P1000860.jpg.6f439e07093cf8c979cc4b89a5b1bf46.jpg

Even more advertising decoration.

P1000858.jpg.c16383a88e48c2911ae54284bf848ebd.jpg

I really like the beer decoration!

P1000857.jpg.4dc01203c4463f6a879b1e74c42d2389.jpg

My cousins beer was Malheur 10, and as the name says it, it was 10%

P1000856.jpg.cdc46f5320d80ba91b8eec461dfbfee9.jpg

We won't! But I really wanted to lure the nice girl behind the tap, with some cookies.

P1000855.jpg.cf18c0c500fb6ec6a76a44bbcad40348.jpg

Nice interior.

P1000854.thumb.jpg.297599513a8c2a0140484840be181338.jpg

Three pages of beer.

P1000853.jpg.36fe0283fd920f6a7cfa8716c96dd8f8.jpg

My beer was a Tripel Karmeliet (8%).

P1000852.jpg.6026573a587424139206cd7ca504166a.jpg

No free table on the first floor.

P1000850.jpg.1840823d5f264c3ad1a5e6b6e8e24384.jpg

Beer advertising.

P1000849.jpg.16c28a074f91d2b02470b0d89163e831.jpg

Our first special beer cafe was Paters Vaetje. A nice place, but quite small and a bit crowded.

P1000867.jpg.9e918a07c0fae33ba393a7dca95d80a3.jpg

Italian restaurant, they had very nice pizzas inside.

See the guy with the white vest, standing outside the door? He tries to lure you inside with sweet words. If that doesn't work, he will try to hypnotize you. And if your mind is too strong, he will kidnap you and jam pizzas and pasta down your throat.

P1000848.jpg.1082bd8aee2918ac8331f9045a4f3584.jpg

Girls only bar... I wonder what happens inside...

P1000846.jpg.9b9aa39ea13ab0ac9357089fa799c19c.jpg

"Hello! Are you single?"

P1000845.thumb.jpg.81c4927633bbf2b30217f007ffb54239.jpg

If I could skate, this would be my deck!

P1000843.jpg.0b1fa98af9664f950c67f3d3b3b1563c.jpg

"One gallon please!"

P1000842.jpg.156583cd1a54200b84082e157afb7006.jpg

That's one big bear!

P1000841.jpg.f2b2e3486834eeee22b9980a5faac092.jpg

Or getting beer from a tap!

My god, every store should have beer and shavers!

P1000840.jpg.13a2b147bcd4ee6d69d4c82f52e8b283.jpg

But here you could shave yourself!

P1000839.jpg.5f3d5bb66d97a6ea34c58e704479f6e5.jpg

Another electronics store was Saturn.

P1000837.jpg.a049fc140cfd153fc357a484419fdb3b.jpg

Shopping street with alot of beggers.

P1000835.jpg.929e691f4644d46922ec4579cd56fdfc.jpg

Every city should have one!

P1000832.jpg.01b51483e3aa3fc21d42efbd630b7a43.jpg

You can watch television when taking the escalator.

P1000831.jpg.3cae32473f3ca6b812fe3af52bd35d4c.jpg

Tested some speakers with my Ipod. The other customers were not so happy about it...

P1000830.jpg.e762401effe0476a37a23b88574996bd.jpg

We decided we stopped at Media Markt first, a giant store with electronic equipment.

P1000829.jpg.58104f2aa60835ba6e760667432fe0c7.jpg

Another picture for the Mc Donalds fetish fans.

P1000827.jpg.2cd0d77ae23594a061ae214568391d99.jpg

Outside the railway center you can find different stores, mostly Jewish jewellery shops but also a Mc Donalds and other stuff.

P1000825.jpg.76d5a39887ff35be348a9c1c196a9a6d.jpg

Stairs to the platforms.

The entrance hall of the trainstation.

P1000820.jpg.1e5feb26c82edbb951c89733170d9199.jpg

Our first beer was just a simple lager, but not bad. (5,2%)

P1000818.jpg.c1eda0ee993adef4350a524ecc3e7e11.jpg

Offcourse we were very thirsty after the train ride, so we decided our first stop would be a simple cafe at the trainstation.

P1000816.jpg.9aa9d2aa637b3d9011539959e9dd5d9e.jpg

Notice the floors downstairs, there are platforms too.

P1000815.jpg.e15c21784b09b73c053a0698d2c610bb.jpg

At about 12.00 we arrived at Antwerpen Centraal, a very nice trainstation!

P1000814.jpg.97e0d23fb323752837046d8efa3d882b.jpg

My 18 year old cousin, who was joining me. (we are already drinking heavy beers when he was 15).

Great TR! The only time I have visited Belgium (Brussels), I hadn't yet gotten into beers. Now, I would love to go back and enjoy a culinary tour. I firmly believe that the Belgians produce the best beer in the world. I'm sure that many Germans will disagree with me, but I'm standing firm. Belgian beers rule the world of beer!!!

Trip 2: Mini update Beer evening (Lommel - 1th May 2010)

A while ago, there was a beer tasting evening in my city. There were about 180 beers from big brewiers, and from people who just brew as a hobby.

Some numbers are missing, so those beers where sold out. Offcourse some breweries had more stock than others. You could find the numbers in a book, so you know from which beer it was. The red numbers are the beers from the barrels, and the white ones where just from the bottles.
