I'm not voting in the poll since I think using "Team blah vs Team blech" is literally mentally retarded, but I favor Conan moving to a new channel (*cough*Fox*cough*) that will let him get back to his older more outrages humor that he had when he was on at a later time slot against Leno who I think has become pretty stale.

Team Leno! I need my Headlines!!! As much as I like Conan, I wasn't ready for Jay to leave late night, and waited patiently for Jay's new show to start. Jay and Conan both deserve late night shows, even if that means one of them going elsewhere like Fox of ABC.

I honestly was watching Letterman more at 11:35 - and I have to say that Dave's followup show with Craig Ferguson out-does Jimmy Fallon at 12:35.

I watch Letterman, but I watched Leno a few times and found him extremely boring. The only good thing about Leno is his car collection. I don't like Conan either, never have. If I was Conan, I would be either let me keep my show at my time or let me out of my contract and non compete agreement. His current contract says he can't go to another network and be on air immediately. He has to wait 2 years.

I'm all for Conan moving to another network, competing with Leno and bringing back some of his awesome signature bits. I never thought Conan was himself on the Tonight Show... His humor is a tad on the juvenile side which doesn't mesh well with the Tonight Show

Conan just release this statement. I fully agree.

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I've been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I

want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second

feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I've been getting paid to do what I

love most and, in a world with real problems, I've been absurdly lucky.

That said, I've been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my

bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight

Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson

every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant

everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed

up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally

hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the

future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would

have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of

ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting

audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months,

with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their

terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their

long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight

Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years

the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I

sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to

accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider

to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight

Show at 12:05 simply isn't the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move

I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David

Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot.

That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be

unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy

hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is

for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably

hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The

Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its

destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the

Internet a time slot doesn't matter. But with the Tonight Show, I

believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set

the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have

no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this

quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of,

for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair;

it's always been that way.

Yours,

Conan

^ Just saw that on the newsfeed. I used to be a big fan of Jay's but like a lot of people it seems, I feel he's grown too stale. (Heck, I know plenty of people who thought that from the start.)

I voted Team Conan because his brand of comedy may be juvenile, but it works in an "aw, gee" sort of way. And like he says above, he has this huge commitment to the show, looking past the ratings et al., which I definitely admire.

...Though the poll reminded me too much of that "Team Edward vs. Jacob" Twihard crap so I almost didn't vote. (EDIT: Which I now see was the point!)

^ To be honest, I'm not really a fan of Conan, but I think he addressed the situation with that very classy letter. I've always liked Jay Leno, despite some of his quirks just because he's a "regular guy." You can approach him any time for a picture, autograph, chat, whatever. And his humor, while sometimes "eh," is generally clean. I've long tired of sex and toilet humor that some comics do.

And like CoastersNSich said before, I like Jay's "Headlines" segment, as well as "Jaywalking," "Battle of the Network All-Stars," etc. (Should you miss "Headlines," however, it can be viewed later on the Tonight Show website. I've watched it like that several times.)

Monologue and Headlines were always my favourite parts of Jay's show, and I've almost certainly seen more of him when I was growing up due to the earlier time slot. No big knock against him -- still seems like a great guy and I'll still gladly sit down and watch the new-ish (now-axed) show.

Truth be told, I think I like both hosts for two main reasons: the good jokes, and how they defend the bad ones!

Team Jacob... whoops.

I'm a bigger fan of Conan, he always seemed funnier to me. Leno was only good for headlines and Jaywalking (though the comedy isn't done by Leno there, but I enjoyed those segments).

The Cone Bone gets the vote.

I've been a fan of Conan for many a year. His trip to Toronto after the SARS outbreak was an extremely classy move. He's paid his dues by staying at the 12:35 slot while Jay was at 11:30. Jay is coming off as a douchebag who doesn't care about anyone but himself.

All in all though, Craig Ferguson is way better.

^Or anything Seth MacFarlane does.

I can't really say I prefer one over the other. But just to balance it out a bit in this thread, Leno is actually a really classy guy. The brother of my friend was on his show in the Teenage Wasteland segment, and I remember them talking about how down to earth he was. When the brother died a couple years later, Jay somehow found out and personally called the family to extend his condolences. That said, I don't have a problem with either.

After all, I'm a Team Colbert guy myself anyway...
