Rainbow’s End has is home to a brand new attraction in the form of a ride called The Invader.

The new $2.5 million machine is the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere and is like a roller coaster, but not quite.

Campbell Live was there, along with a bunch of very excited school children, to give it a thorough test.

There's a video of the ride

All I really have to say after waiting five or so years is that I wish it counted as a credit

New Zealand’s largest amusement park, Rainbow’s End, has been granted an extended lease through until 2034 following five-years of talks with Manukau City Council. In exchange the park, located near Auckland, must surrender 4,000 square metres of land and move its Power Surge ride.

Rainbow’s End recently opened a 24-seat Zamperla Disk ‘O’ Coaster called Invader (pictured), believed to be the first ride of its kind in the Southern hemisphere. The park’s owner, New Zealand Experience, has now pledged to invest NZ$3 million (US$2.2m/€1.5m) in the park every three years until 2027.

"While Rainbow's End would have preferred not to have to surrender any existing land, the inclusion of additional land and plans to redevelop some of the existing park area will provide sufficient capacity to continue to extend the offerings and range of attractions at the park," a New Zealand Experience spokesperson said in an official statement.

The land given back to the City Council will be used to expand the law courts adjacent to the park and to provide a roadway linking two existing roads.
