Thorpe Park Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Just found this at CoasterForce (just in case you are interested):

Saw Stalled

Problems abound at Surrey's favourite teenage playground today (sorry, "THE NATION'S THRILL CAPITAL" as the website declares) as Saw: The Ride came to a complete standstill and was then clamped in position on an incline.

As you can see from the image passed to us by one of our roving members, the park have had to get a cherry-picker out to rescue the ride.

Saw: The Ride had a troubled opening period with major down time in its first few weeks of operation.

Based on the hit Saw horror movie series, the ride is a little bit of a nightmare for Thorpe Park on occasions too.

Update: The ride has been struggling to make a full circuit since testing this morning and no riders were stranded on the ride.

Quote from Les Coogan's wall on Facebook:

It seems a mysterious testing facility has been discovered in Italy with something very similar to the planned LC12. Might be worth checking out.

Could this be the extension of the story, that the Raptor got out? I am just thinking about the Nemesis/Nemesis Inferno continuation. Could SW7 at Alton Towers be a further continuation of the Raptor/LC12 story?

What are your thoughts?

EDIT: Just spotted this on the map, the priest looks like he is performing an exorcism on the island of LC12:

They really are making this build up viral!

I'd take that as Raptor being the prototype, being the first is in itself the testing ground for LC12. Same ride type and all..

The priest has nothing to do with LC12. A priest was called in to bless Stealth in 2006, one of Thorpe's many PR stunts.

on the website, when it explains the ride, it sounds as though it could be a 4d? -

Experience the unique head first, inverted drop from 127ft as you are flung into this merciless flight for your life.
although they may just be referring to the element/drop after the lift hill..

According to Wikepedia:

The ride will begin in the station, a partly destroyed church, and will climb up a 40m lift hill. Upon reaching the top of the lift hill the track will rotate 180° and dive down through a large half loop. The train will dive under a wrecked plane and incline into a zero-g roll and before entering the inclined loop. It then enters a turn around with a wrecked helicopter in the centre followed by a corkscrew through the loop creating a near-miss point. Upon leaving the corkscrew the train will curve past a crashed fire engine and a partly destroyed church tower and enter an inline twist before the final brakes of the ride.

I'm guessing the 4D element is the dive under the plane and the turn around the helicopter.

The UK's first winged rollercoaster, THE SWARM, takes you on a death defying flight through apocalyptic devastation.

Be picked up and dragged on the wings of THE SWARM as you’re left exposed and vulnerable to the extreme near misses and gut wrenching inversions as it rips through the sky on its mission of complete annihilation.

Experience the unique head first, inverted drop from 127ft as you are flung into this merciless flight for your life. War is coming... Spring 2012.

I love this name and theme for this ride. It's a total package all in one for me! Too bad I live in the states....

It's also a great idea due to all of the hype about the apocalyptic ending-of-the-world coming in 2012, making it an attention grabber.

Can't wait for some CGI animation if they have any!
