Hans' trip to California

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Finally I found some time to start my review of TPR's west coast trip.

I started the trip in San Francisco in stead of LA just to avoid the big bus ride. I thought it would be terrible but if I could do it over I would start in LA. I missed Shark Attack 3 you know.

Anyway we did some sightseeing and some shopping in San Francisco.

Our flight had an 3 hour delay in NYC. We planned to be at the hotel at around 7 pm but due to the delay it was around 10 pm.

At that time we still needed something to eat but everything, except for the In and Out, was closed.

Nonetheless we had a great first day in San Francisco.

On to the Pictures.

Finally

I don't regret we flew into SFO because I really enjoyed that day in San Francisco. It's a pitty we didn't get a picture of the 2 taxi's we took and especially their drivers : first the crazy, GTA limo driver and secondly the Vietnamese female driver.

I'm still laughing when I think about the conversation you had with her about New York :

Hans : 'You know that the Netherlands founded New York ?"

She : 'Oh, you discovered NY ?"

Hans : 'No, we founded NY'.

She : 'Yes, you found NY. You discovered NY'.

Hans : 'Yeah, we found NY ....'

Looking forward to the updates Hans.

Day 1: Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

The day at Discovery Kingdom was awesome. We had morning ERT on Medusa and evening ERT on V2, Roar and the now epic ERT on Tony Hawk.

The park was kind enough to show us some of their wildlife animals. This was definitely the best Six Flags park I've ever been.

In the afternoon we left the park for a little surprise trip to the Jelly Belly factory. I never heard of it but after I've been there I even spotted some shops in Holland who sell them so thanks TPR for introducing me in the world of Jelly Belly's.

After the evening ERT I left the park, I think together with Voyager (correct me if I'm wrong), and we were already a bit late. Trust me you don't want to be late on a TPR trip especially when it is the first day of your first trip. It turned out that we were the first at the parking lot except for Larry of course. So we were pushing Larry to put the bus at a different location but of course Larry stayed loyal to TPR.

On to the pictures....

Yes I did the challenge but I was really bad at it. I only had one drop of water left.

Sorry but those are the only Medusa pictures that I have. You can always check the park index for more Medusa pictures.

Day 2 - Morning visit to Gilroy Gardens

Girloy Gardens is a nice themepark not a park you would expect in the USA. We had ERT on Quicksilver Express an Morgan minetrain which surprised me in a good way and it had a serious headchopper moment right after the second lift.

Day 2 - Afternoon/evening visit to Santa Cruz

This was one of the parks I really looked forward too. Yes even before the beer party was announced. The setting is just perfect and the hospitality was awesome.

On arrival the park was packed and I only got the credits out of the way before the beer/food/volleyball party. After that we had an awesome behind the scenes tour at the park. Thanks to the beer party I really needed to pee during the tour but luckily there was a toilet at the infield of the Giant Dipper. What a relief.

On to the pictures.

I guess Bas and I are the only people on the trip who like Hurricane. We're a small and decimated group.

And I agree about Rock-O-Plane. It was totally awesome, except I had to ride it alone because nobody else in my group wanted to. The G’s are amazing when you pull the bar at the top and don’t let go the whole cycle.

Day 4 - Six Flags Magic Mountain

Six Flags treated us very well during our visit. Not only our scheduled day but cause we arrived early we were allowed to enter the park that very night. Thanks for that it was really awesome. Benny and me were one of the few that did not hit X2 for a night ride but instead we already got in 3 credits - Superman, Scream and Colossos. After park closing we were treated of an hour of ERT on Goliath.

The next morning started with 1.5 hours of ERT on Viper, Revolution, Tatsu and X2.

After that I got in my other credits and got very wet on a bloody waterride and did a Goliath-Marathon with Josh. Thank you Gold Q-bot.

In the evening we had ERT on Terminator and Deja VU it turned out to be the best ERT session of the trip.

Big thank you to Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Great update Hans.

I so loved the Goliath surprise ERT. Most of the ride-ops had to ride with us to have the required 9 riders on the train because everybody on the WCT was still at X2, except for us 2, Bas and Larry (if I remember well).

Although I couldn't stand the heat the next day and had to return to the hotel for some cooling off in the afternoon, it still was my favorite day of the trip.

On the day at Magic Mountain we also had Waterpark ERT. I did not participate but I took pictures instead.

I took tons of pictures but most of them turned out wat too blurry.

The pictures are hilarious..... Enjoy.

Day 5 part 1 - Universal Studios Hollywood

After the late ERT at Magic Mountain this was a very early morning but with Mummy ERT looming I could cope with it.

The park is nice but since I'm not that much into shows I didn't expect anything from this park. The rides that they have did surprise me. Jurassic Park was awesome. The behind the scenes tour of the Mummy and ERT were phenomenal.

I even enjoyed Simpsons the ride and that's a small surprise to me cause most of the times I get nauseas on simulator rides.

On to the pictures...

IMG_0001_29.jpg.b3e7c5c1174fe5f79c2574347db4758f.jpg

The Horror maze was fun no more no less.

but I still managed to take some pictures of the planecrash site.

Due to the late night and the early morning I fell asleep on the Studio Tram Tour.
