rockbook2000
What are the "must" rides there? I assume their major wooden coaster. On top of this, what's the best/cheapest/most efficient way to purchase tickets? Also saw on Food Network they have the best food of any amusement park in the world. Recommendations of what to get? Will probably get 1-2 meals and some type of dessert/treat.
tatertot3710
I've been going to Knoebels since I was about 4 years old and I've always loved it. I assume you're going sometime in the coming weeks, correct? If so, the Flying Turns probably won't be open. The ticket pricing depends on you. How much do you think you'll ride? Are you in to flats? They have a skyride and haunted house that isn't included with admission but all rides are very well priced. You can see individual pricing of rides and prices of wristbands at the knoebels website: www.knoebels.com. Must rides: Phoenix - Awesome woodie. Lots of airtime. Really packs a punch. Twister - other wooden coaster. I don't particularly like it, but it's eworth at least 1 ride. Log flume - nice, big flume. Really nice and in the woods. Train - make sure you do the train near the ferris wheel. You'll get some great views. Skyride - nice 15 minute ski-lift up the mountain (not included with wristbands) Kozmo's Kurves - new family coaster. I haven't ridden it yet but it's worth a try. And if you're into it: Haunted mansion (not included in wristbands) Fandango - frisbee As far as food, I've really liked Cesaris pizza and the Alamo (sit down place). The food is really cheap compared to other amusement parks and tastes great! Hope you have fun on your trip!
Capitalize
The Haunted Mansion and ski lift are awesome, I recommend them. For food I really liked the internation food court by the log flume/Phoenix.
YoshiFan
I ate at the Alamo last year, I couldn't believe the prices. They would be cheap for a sit down restaurant out of an amusement park let alone in an amusement park! To give an idea of how cheap it was, a tuna salad sandwich with potato chips was $3.25. rockbook2000
Thanks to both of you for the info. I'm planning on going Wednesday of this week. How should the crowds/lines probably be? I was debating between this and Hershey, but thought this would be tamer and cheaper (even though I am roller coaster person).

Wow! I assume you're the Yoshi dude from the Great Adventure forums. SFGAdv is my home park, so I'm used to spending $12 for a wrap and small drink. This should be a nice break. Heading to Cedar Point the day after, which should be cool. I assume the park won't take too long to do. Do they charge for parking?
tatertot3710
^^ usually non-existant. I go to the park during the week (usually Thursday) and the wait for Phoenix and Twister are usually 2-4 trains (they usually only run 1 train). I've never waited more than 15 minutes for any ride. ^ No, parking and admission are free.

King of Ka
I love Knoebels, and I bet you will too. Make sure you give yourself enough time to really enjoy the park, and go looking for new things to do, you're bound to find some hidden gems. Don't miss the flyers, bumper cars, or carousel, they're better than most of their generic counterparts.
larrygator
Must rides Phoenix Twister Fandango Looper Bumper Cars Flyers Cosmotron (if it is running properly) Haunted Mansion Downdraft Train Grand Carousel (Get an outside horse for the brass ring grab) Log Flume Food and Drink Birch Beer Frozen Sweet Tea Cheese on a Stick Pierogies The food isn't going to win any culinary awards, but it is solid comfort food at great prices. Myself
Well, after just having been there myself, I can give you advice on what I got for food (I even had a thread asking about it)... -Cesari's Pizza is a VERY good pizza place, definitely worth a stop. Mind, though, some of the people I went with got pizza from the Oasis stand instead and weren't fond of it, so be careful where you get it. -The pierogies at the "Round Stand" (yes, that's the actual name, according to my map) are delicious. Don't pass them up. -The Mexican section of the International Food Court has Deep Fried Brownies that are a chocolate lover's heaven. -A stand in the kiddie section has AWESOME cheese-on-a-stick. I got the mozzerella, but they also have a hot pepper cheese version. Now, as far as rides go... -Phoenix and Twister are now in my top four wooden coasters (in no real order, the others are Ravine Flyer II and the Thunderbolt). Phoenix was just as great as I was expecting it to be, and for most of the ride I was out of my seat. After riding it, I wasn't expecting as much from the Twister, but it really blew me away. Don't miss either of them. -Kozmo's Kurves is a decent kiddie coaster that is entertaining even for adults. Try to hit it if you can. -Do NOT miss the Skooters by any means. These are the old Lusse cars that move fast and hit hard. People who haven't been on them may be left wondering why they are so great, as was I before the ride, but I honestly have never had so much fun on bumper cars in my life. Make sure you pick up on how to drive them (more sensitive steering; you can't go backwards) quickly or you WILL be victimized, as I saw happen to a few riders (I somehow knew what I was doing). -Don't miss the Flyers either. No other Flying Scooter ride moves quite this fast, and I managed to snap them a lot. Be sure to look for the tractor motor! -The Haunted Mansion is currently my favorite dark ride, and even if you aren't a particular fan of them, you still should ride this one at least once. It is not included in the POP but I still rode it multiple times on my visit. -The Grand Carousel is probably the most beautiful carousel I've seen. If you want to try your luck with the ring machine, move quickly as most of the line will go directly for outside horses. -The Flume is a fun ride as well, and you get a bit wetter than some of the other flumes I've been on. It has a neat tunnel and the final drop is really steep. If you don't want to get wet, you can go to the observation deck and shoot geysers at riders. -The antique cars were neat since they go under the Phoenix. -Unfortunately, I didn't have time for it, but try to ride the 1.5 mile Pioneer Train while you're there. rockbook2000
Thanks for the helpful tips, all. The deep fried brownies sound awesome. Going there alone (part of a road trip), so hopefully won't get too bored.
medic738
I worked there through high school, college, paramedic school and even went back and worked as a medic in the park before I moved out of the area years ago so maybe I'm knd of partial. This is absolutely my favorite park outside of Disney. Give yourself a bunch of time to just walk around and take in the atmosphere. The beautiful woods, the fantastic smells and the sight of this park at night make it a classic. I agree with all the ride recomendations made by others - my personal favorites are the coasters (Phoenix and Twister - haven't ridden Kosmos Kurves yet though my son liked it) and the Haunted Mansion. Cesari's Pizza is great, the Alamo is a nice place to sit for a while in the a/c or they also do an outside meal (BBQ chicken or spaghetti). Also, the french fries over by the Alamo are the bomb. Make sure you leave room for some ice cream from the old mill by the Mansion. Plus carmel corn, carmel apples and cotton candy are among the best I've had at any park. (You'll need to walk the park to burn off the calories). Take a look at their websight to see the cost per ride. Since lines are usually short, you can get many walk-ons so repeat riding of favorites is always possible. Some rides like the motor boats are lower capacity and very popular causing probalby the longest wait in the park. During weekdays, the cost of a book of tickets is discounted (I think a $10 book for $9 or something like that but don't quote me). The alternative is the all day plan - very cheap even with the coaster option added. On your way into the park, stop in Elysburg at the intersection there is a Turkey Hill quickie mart. Usually you can pick up some discount coupons here (at least for use during the week). I don't think they run the all day deals on weekends until the end of the season. They also do an after dark special and bargain nights Wed and Fri nights. I just returned from visiting about 12 parks in CT, Mass and NY and still find Knoebels to be my favorite. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
rockbook2000
Thanks for the great advice, Medic! I'm only probably going to be there for 4-5 hours since I need to get back on the road, so not sure how much I'm gonna be able to do. Will certainly keep the recommendations in mind. Jim S.
If you're only going to be there a few hours, don't buy the handstamp (unless it's the one at night.) Just buy tickets. You'll save lots of money. On days when handstamps are available, they only run one train on the coasters. The lines are never too long, but they don't fly like they do in two-train operations, unless for some reason you don't want the front or back seats. Food recommendations: International Food Court: Anything from the Mexican section. Great size for the price. (None of the prices are bad by big-park standards, but the servings are smaller at some of the other sections.) Haluski if you like Polish food. Alligator Bites if you're adventurous. They really do taste like chicken, although they're a little chewy. The Wharf: Fancy Fries: Waffle fries with cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing. Spud Platter: Waffle fries with cheese and chili. D&D Pita: I don't know what it stands for, but it's a huge cheesesteak made between two slabs of pita bread. It's intended for two people, but I've been known to finish one myself, IF I haven't hit the fries first. And it's only like $5! The Wharf is also a good place to get real iced tea, as in fresh-brewed tea rather than whatever unidentifiable substance Pepsi puts in the fountains as iced tea. coastersrule85
And try to find blue birch beer. I know that people say blue and white are the same, but trust me, blue makes it better. lol As far as food goes, I really don't think you can go wrong no matter what you decide. Although, I do have to kick myself for not seeing the fried brownies, dangit! Ride all of the coasters for sure. I would say that your must rides are the flyers, Skooter Bumper Cars, Sky Ride and the Looper. (however, I suggest riding the looper BEFORE you eat anything)
edboxer
In addition to all the other food mentioned, don't miss the ice cream sandwiches - home made ice cream between two fresh cooked waffles.
