Silverwood: Day 1.

829.jpg.fc047daaa237464339ce6ce490f1187d.jpg

Bring it on!

My camera ran out of battery, so this is the last photo I took of the day. After this, I rode Aftershock (literally, it was walkon), Corkscrew, Corkscrew, and some other stuff. When we were finished, we had a great dinner at Chili's. Great place, I only wish there was one near us.=(

Thank's for reading! =)

828.jpg.285e21fbaf56e9eaf443150f50df99df.jpg

Can you believe it's only 140ft tall?

827.jpg.924bdc33f06452e2097dc287e252bc2c.jpg

These Panic Plunge ride-ops look bored; I'll brighten their day a little.

826.jpg.242d3cc778eeebd37af31b3cf954f222.jpg

Silverwood's 'Arrow corner'.

825.jpg.888d0428ba6bee0a335b5b503e67b927.jpg

They still haven't added Aftershock?

823.jpg.18e22e6dd1555dea3e71fb4fe64fff23.jpg

I think I'll ride Panic Plunge, now that I'm more into drop tower rides.

822.jpg.8f9260ecb762727a72970dc3fd63a2b5.jpg

Heading on over to Silverwood to get some rides in before we leave.

820.thumb.jpg.c2f8535cf7b23051f2a4048053a53d7d.jpg

NOTED!

818.jpg.02882f24f260b2b96de6b36554454392.jpg

Since this isn't a waterproof camera, I had to leave it in a locker.

817.jpg.0c80f45953e0234ec539459889ab5435.jpg

The waterpark's lazy river, Elkhorn Creek.

816.jpg.38e4b964ab28198aac4639d63786c866.jpg

Some of the speed slides.

815.jpg.426d39d1a5dd0c9c3885cee60847ec12.jpg

Then there's the Granite Grill, which is overloaded with napkin and condiments.

814.jpg.85388b181eb79b01183ecb964882eb62.jpg

The first thing you see after walking through Boulder Beach's gift shop (serves as the entrance because it's a free waterpark) is the playset. It's just to your left once you walk in.

812.jpg.37c2691234e393e8aabe0d8af7544105.jpg

The Boulder Beach boulder.

810.jpg.cd592f398f7c61e5f64f52df73735ef1.jpg

Corkscrew is only better than Wild Thing because it has slightly smoother brakes. Otherwise, it's more headbangy (even though my head exceeds the OTSRs), rougher, more forceful, and has 1 less inversion.

809.jpg.3f41561d6975ab25f30d9d223afe96c9.jpg

However, for our first day, we'd be headed for Boulder Beach. After all, it was the hottest of the 2 days we'd spend here.

808.jpg.021c675b7ceea45b1aff742827d3bbeb.jpg

Victorian themeing is what's in at Silverwood.

807.jpg.edf0d7dca51ec69a9e3e387f3f62aa92.jpg

As I learned last year, the carousel was originally constructed for knights to learn the speed and feel of horses. I then told the ride-op that gave me this fact that Aftershock came from Illinois before coming to Silverwood. Fact exchange>boring ride-op who doesn't smile. (coughcoughsixflagscouch)

806.jpg.fac14589780558552d62695f6e7722ca.jpg

Silverwood has a heavily foliaged, but beautifully manicured entrance plaza.

805.jpg.9170e1fe4a47022d0760c8859c7b5916.jpg

Beep! Admission granted.

804.thumb.jpg.50031a07c7501f82fcecc55d117145b9.jpg

NOTED!

803.jpg.ff146f288808d85128ad996f24e7bb15.jpg

We were in a long line to get to the park.

802.jpg.bcaf9d8619e51950779882faef0f98f4.jpg

NOTED!

801.jpg.5d1963719776646832b25edb663039ec.jpg

I've seen this somewhere before...

800.jpg.d9ff101af0637df47a291493fb501e22.jpg

The two (technically, 3) tallest towers at Silverwood. (No, Panic Plunge is only 140ft, it's just closer than Aftershock)

799.jpg.2533f28bb6fa9f9f1729d50f0724400d.jpg

Wow, all the way from Florida for Silverwood? I told you this place is pretty good!

798.jpg.858d66d134ea38d47a6e9ca87702a606.jpg

TT's progressively yellower train and a little bit of Corkscrew.

796.jpg.e1d5cfc4333d0bbdd20bc2e73812e99b.jpg

Panic Plunge and Timber Terror.

795.jpg.61458c5209898d41ad5a1198f29d452f.jpg

Intense, slightly-smoother-than-other-GIBs loopage.

Illinois GIB: the Ride.

792.jpg.1e1496d8251b1b649157df3033703207.jpg

Here we are!

791.jpg.da8e12500742683a0bf0925c967801ac.jpg

The price for gas was $2.97 for 1 gallon last time we were here. That was when it was over $3.20 in Washington!

790.jpg.a556059fbfd96298fa587337b9f23c5b.jpg

We pass yet another small waterpark.

789.jpg.a3b3f0a57c3a3ca1bf99571743346f47.jpg

One of these brands is defunct...

788.jpg.0ec95c206ea5db7a734e54c61626e051.jpg

(This wettness was caused by the hotel sprinkler spraying on our cars) Ms. Cathy had to get her car to the local Isuzu (or what used to be) dealer because it was making an unusual noise. Plus, the fuel gauge was acting up.

785.jpg.67f910e20b5b5175c62e671cd86c38a6.jpg

Apparently, this place had a 'warning, do not slip' sign from Carl's Jr./Hardees.

784.jpg.e9a80088ed4dbc6d07b04138c4251b6d.jpg

Woke up early, got breakfast, and was quickly ready to go!

783.jpg.23e367f5dbe38a55173e35f1f7994584.jpg

I'll grab a chocolate milk and take a quick bathroom break before we arrive at our hotel.

782.jpg.1e678fc3fba108dbc7782ed45d38569b.jpg

Indeed, we will...

780.jpg.4a32daeb8e0c3347c5ec1a127695e70b.jpg

"We'll be at Silverwood soon enough!"

779.jpg.ca2e6f5cb0c77319b66ba50698d517ac.jpg

776.jpg.22c9ee0f22f66e53d380cbceafdb7fb5.jpg

Another small waterpark.

775.jpg.2beeaab205cc3bbc5dc0f4c9b0ceefaa.jpg

...After.

774.jpg.7c8f18ab69ffd67dba7274cba5df107b.jpg

Before....

773.jpg.e0434992faa13bcbfb3c6553239deb49.jpg

We wake up to find that we could've had dinner at Pizza Hut/Wingsteet!

lol, I forgot about the Mt. Rushmore Coke machines. Great TR from a really neat area. Too bad you skipped the Flintstones park, though. No actual rides there (unless you count the kiddie train and Barney Rubble car go-kart), but lots of concrete statues of the Flintstones characters and their houses and businesses, a decent little theater show and... well, when we were there, it seemed like they really could use all the business they can get.

Cabela's Mini Update.

863.jpg.cc2c62e34bfe02e45db9e1dace2470b8.jpg

Montana!

Thank's for reading. =)

852.jpg.2529d3ef49a7706d4a6c2642b419e959.jpg

Thank's for an awesome, fun experience, Cabela's! This should totally be 'TPR's official sporting good's store of awesomness'!

851.jpg.61cfb39941321ecce2745eba698668f6.jpg

I had to duck when I hit a target that released water!

849.jpg.80228a2c99a128a36362d0ea147bedf7.jpg

In fact, soon after I came, the whole place became very crowded!

847.jpg.071933602e4608a7794112eb45f9d435.jpg

I tried my hand at the Cabela's shooting area.

842.jpg.e7f026d6f1f5b72816d813968aad3615.jpg

They have this totally awesome camoflauge chair with a foldable cover. What Burney Madoff uses to hide from angry taxpayers.

839.jpg.d212666f91f4ee61481c072203908974.jpg

I head right for the food court. These cheese curd things are AWESOME!

838.jpg.80901ab133aeb2be07ba16b939215a8b.jpg

We decide to go to Cabela's before hitting Silverwood.

836.jpg.6092b50ff75916ccfa9215f7241447b9.jpg

Nevada! (I quickly got into playing with fragments of Sun Chips I found that just happened to look like states)

Interesting... Gravel Pit-Ness Monster.

Silverwood: Day 2.

987.jpg.9692495adc6808aa8d1a98dd8ac44061.jpg

Rachael:"Peace!"

Patrick:"I can only expect hell for the next 1:30."

More photos soon to come. Thank's for reading! =)

986.jpg.90c423f336f7432d3c966d5a55b6674e.jpg

As you can see, they thought it was rough too.

985.jpg.15c07539ad491859f5c589b9ffc94c63.jpg

You can see mom and dad in the 1st row of the 2nd car.

981.jpg.26c43195d07786a05f9f84b71c54da17.jpg

Kinda hard to get feet outside the train, don't you think?

977.jpg.7ae2f31192c524d9a9026505cd4fc61d.jpg

Another one, implying that your head will be cut off by Silverwood employees if you stand up.

975.jpg.f76e2e0e2d0337c1799057c46a6e5b63.jpg

One of the easy to be misinterpreted signs at Silverwood.

974.jpg.a081d1561209507411b22360d73a7449.jpg

Both Tremors and Timber Terror have this weird covering thing over their queue.

972.jpg.a186c82db48d60495c75ae39ead7ee0a.jpg

Tremors is a top rated coaster, but it's very tempermental. It's been pretty rough every time I've ridden it.

968.jpg.905c54caf0c97d59a922235f0e268e64.jpg

Now for Tremors, the park's signature CCI woodie.

967.jpg.758409fcbd5be175b266e503db34aeb3.jpg

Aftershock is visable from almost everywhere in the park.

969.jpg.3f9738d7ce5d2fc5b21ccc877794447b.jpg

Dad managed to collect a ball while we were playing the boat war game.

956.jpg.e65aebc93b4f37bcfbbad2a3078ad736.jpg

Mom and Ms. Cathy were really taking this game seriously!

953.jpg.64324583dc2751ec3d18de855c81caec.jpg

Here's the little vehicle we'd be using.

951.jpg.9ff13114899d6ea114f4f38980aa6df0.jpg

We totally got into this war ship shooting little rubber balls and water at people and people being able to shoot balls back game!

947.jpg.5ec2e8cccf5c5ebe7b72506a65757f75.jpg

Arrow out-of-corkscrew shot.

943.thumb.jpg.931afad2aa15f693df20ec88b4d7a3c0.jpg

Acceptable amount of wettness, but VERY cold today!

940.jpg.3a711800fefbb049f558e596d9a0b94a.jpg

We're all ready to get wet! Or are we?

939.jpg.eb9f20aa2d5bd757ac32abeddee3cb7e.jpg

Mom took some pictures while we were in line for Silverwood's popular rapid's ride.

934.jpg.64d69e56202272a2d7152cb22d1b02a1.jpg

I thought it was just ok.

931.jpg.dfaab915ee6aec5d386ae6e40c98fd49.jpg

I've never ridden one of these Huss U.F.O. things before.

930.jpg.b4f3398ba8448896c82fe972c0282570.jpg

Silverwood has done a decent job at placing the scrambler inside of Corkscrew's final turnaround.

928.jpg.e2864e58e486dab2fd8489468436e8fe.jpg

927.jpg.3e4f3d08f5e27c1786f341a1b4f10427.jpg

"This Corkscrew is only good in the front. Wild Thing is better in the back."

926.jpg.90552cffcbb961ede0ed25a203a983d6.jpg

They even have the updated Pepsi logo on the Silverwood cups!

919.jpg.fc100dc387b75f3b0b369d144a94b68d.jpg

917.jpg.2100825ef9bb9bd0f79e22b9fc63da50.jpg

Arrow train, anybody?

916.jpg.aca2e48ca59c29cb91533c44522bd7c2.jpg

There's a LOT of unused space in Corkscrew's lot.

915.jpg.701bfa2a751f5870ab66353f1c02ae31.jpg

914.jpg.b5e411a8a877715f97b3971d5eae83c5.jpg

Note the growth on the track.... and the unusually long line for Corkscrew(ed).

912.jpg.088c6435cba44687f443344086705627.jpg

First ever huggging-support shot I've ever had taken.

Typical Chance (Chance, right?) Gambler, except it's called Trabant.

889.jpg.ebdbbc52c6bb620722103af7a59594c7.jpg

"This isn't a Tilt-A-Hurl, as people would say. It's less nauseating than the typical, but more intense!"

888.jpg.d6d9b5ab8ebf4ce8de894b1a956d636e.jpg

Ready to ride! (this T-A-W has a lot of intense spinning, you can't miss it when you come to Silverwood)

887.jpg.21e51440102f8ecfbd4f897304eb8ecb.jpg

I totally would've gone for that dunk tank yesterday, but it's too cold today.

886.jpg.2962f4a11943f9c099b37e1c73222789.jpg

Yes.... My very first ever Tilt-A-Whirl! I remember it like it was yesterday...

885.jpg.05b527b161d49c271b6bf01b19cb513a.jpg

Winner every time. Really? I don't think so.

884.jpg.571e6b47df612cfd23cdbc0f0d525da9.jpg

"Come on everybody.... play the game that allows you to waste money, get a prize, AND test your strength!"

882.jpg.1e9ed4879243c1f925af35f529e83198.jpg

Remember these? (If not, check out Coaster Expedition 3 and look at the 'floating' car thing on Silverwood's video)

881.jpg.bc853d10f26cdd75db53fdceaf304920.jpg

Hmm....

878.thumb.jpg.014c5f16ef03e6d78aaf5f0660d92c08.jpg

Where do we go?

877.jpg.320b702906283754028d7a4223463e9d.jpg

We did the train last year, and I'd certainly reccommend it to anybody who visits Silverwood! Just make sure you have your wallet with you, you'll see why...

875.jpg.adb72490d02fcec1be90bf1f403c7a7c.jpg

"Live".......

872.jpg.6e43a2549b730a172a6e0c37e11b4011.jpg

Dad found this sign laying on the ground in the parking lot.

870.jpg.ecf4b21197d001894a52fcfe7e593a93.jpg

Panic Plunge was operating today. I think I'll ride it 6 more times! (spoiler alert)

869.jpg.3dc3af7a1b0e03cca9a8e157774c049c.jpg

Silverwood's parking lot has a nice view.

867.jpg.8dbcfb39ff2a8930302b350a09ef9f66.jpg

There were already people waiting for Aftershock.

864.jpg.df889681c2c315166d1c3262c970cc72.jpg

Better than the first entrance photo?

Silverwood: Day 2 part 2.

1082.jpg.1c6b6ffbb3aabeccec935b52ce70c1a1.jpg

"They THINK they're out of the clear, but they aren't..... 25 cents does SO much these days..."

Part 3 coming soon. Thank's for reading! =)

1064.jpg.a780cc9a4eb1397e255028d764ae3ee5.jpg

Unacceptable amount of dryness, especially in the back.

1062.jpg.84ab2da2d7b58393deafd25a260dfe63.jpg

Hungry....Must...eat!....(and no, I didn't actually eat it)

1059.jpg.6c21a17e650b2c2b2b468c3f71dfabd6.jpg

Popcorn!

1061.jpg.adc2da8eb03fd3a364c6749760fdcfe7.jpg

1057.jpg.a8e5de19db39191a250e8f17af0ed13c.jpg

Hmm.... The South Park Gang is up here from Colorado to be featured on TPR!

1052.jpg.3ed66eb140561489998c0f2c8de3afdd.jpg

Patrick approved drop tower. Want proof? I got about 8 credits on this thing while I was there!

1050.jpg.f0a523ca08db053ca2572d32a194f445.jpg

This is Fred. Fred is the ARM/Larson catchcar that pulls the main ride vehicle to the top. Fred is the reason that Panic Plunge has airtime.

1048.jpg.d9e5f4fae403b7f36d8338de69f6186e.jpg

It looks a little like an S&S tower, but with a lot less pneumatic cylindar crap in the middle.

1046.jpg.9f95cf9ff993ce8efd9efe251dcfe787.jpg

Instead of a complicated pneumatic system like on the Turbo Drop, or a very coplicated cable system like on Intamin towers, ARM/Larsen towers use a simpler winch system.

1045.jpg.0d6039dc342a62a907fc11c89c35ad15.jpg

It's a mildly fast descent; it takes about 3.3 seconds (I timed it on my trusty watch)

1044.jpg.032d189bf493da4d31fa1bbe5737a1f2.jpg

Panic Plunge has the 'weird colored' mesh stuff, like Maliboomer except it looks like a target from the top.

1041.jpg.4331c7990e1b7b5a22939d99fe43f627.jpg

Yes, it's only 140ft tall.

1040.jpg.47098347597ede7ea875d0c58e8113b0.jpg

Silverwood's classic Skydiver. This thing is awesome!

1034.jpg.887ff003be6f829578cf33e6db838ab9.jpg

This is our next destination.

1032.jpg.2b318c4f65b681de16ceee8c9d4d77e4.jpg

This coaster has a LOT of airtime on the front bunny hills.

1029.jpg.52a0b4ce667cbb7c3d57f0ad49375542.jpg

Mmm..... Ice Cream....

1027.jpg.1c73d02b2c86cb7e03ee493f822bdf20.jpg

I will ask what an Itakadoozie is, as Dan asked what a Cheese Curd was @ Indiana Beach. (notice that I have the CE1 DVD?)

1026.jpg.ada6c4ecaa9032dfd85b599a367fc0cb.jpg

It seems they've also added Aftershock to the cups, as well.

1024.jpg.577182c51e6a483928dbf193ab24d9fb.jpg

And the 'classic SFMM Deja vu page two tower' shot, like this.

1022.jpg.83f7ba5f6bc30bb37bfc8c02d2964bb3.jpg

And close ups, like this.

1021.jpg.30123cf403b2adc812c32efc556a8082.jpg

You can also get nice shots like this...

1019.jpg.d370cdfbcdb0634da251d44df983a100.jpg

Far left:"Is that the Hoffman chick?"

Middle left:"Interesting situation..."

Middle right:"Look at my dirty socks!"

Far right:"I'm all denim; denim shirt, denim jeans...."

(Unlike the other GIBs, Aftershock's ride plaza is behind the towers, instead of in front of the cobra roll. This allows you to get great shots of the train ascending, like this one. Insert your own captions, if you please!)

1018.jpg.835575007b597057a25aedad995abd99.jpg

Aftershock sign.

1015.jpg.0f4fde98f0fc06b44184508af94d06b7.jpg

"This is my 2nd GIB this year, both of them being original SF Deja vus'!"

Gotta give a shout out to.... oh crap..... what's his name? umm..... ride op carrying all the drinks from RC Pro. Had a nice conversation with him about all the idiots who think this ride's made by Arrow.

The exit path really allows you to get some nice shots of the inversions.

1011.jpg.1de3748dd24d0c71a3b5947b4c2a8b56.jpg

I'd totally stand here and wait for the train to pass by.

Oww.... my head....

1009.jpg.c603c1854e6537c6484b3b6e82793419.jpg

Note the big bars just to the side of the restraints that keep your hands from touching the track.

Robb Alvey pointing to V2 @ SFGAm in 2001 FAIL! (sorry for the blurriness, mods)

And then comes flying through!

1005.jpg.1f2f9682d4e510d173399b34d3702cca.jpg

It does get pulled very quickly out of the station...

1003.jpg.bdae52afcc9e28ce079e7a578367fb57.jpg

This ride certainly could use a single rider line, sorta like what Deja @ SFMM had for a while.

1002.jpg.f8d5950f24d144f6b6597000ab3b38b7.jpg

That catchcar has a LOT of wires and crap on it!

1001.jpg.34d3d7fbdce4b4dd20592f367a99c94e.jpg

Note the orange seatbelt on 6B. Those were added by Silverwood, although I have no idea why.

998.jpg.3d2d9b08a53c0dff704acb336b9c3fdf.jpg

I wonder what that tank does.... powers e-brakes?

996.jpg.750a759da621bcdfbf714941a58127ef.jpg

Nerdy loop shot!

995.jpg.168fc28ec3f1aa2b96dafdc41972469a.jpg

"I'll be experiencing about this much force in less than 10 minutes!" (amazingly, Aftershock was pretty much walk on when we rode it both times)

993.jpg.14484a86d2fb3cfea78e317a2a191842.jpg

One other thing it keeps is the annyingly complex and unreliable cable catchcar lift system, infamous for causing a lot of problems. Thus the Vekoma GIB became very unpopular.

991.jpg.a8c3de7f89ca09680776bff59a6e8602.jpg

As it was placed on a flat surface to begin with, it also has its original supports.

990.jpg.c447aed7a5cbd7ae13d1f8e770780987.jpg

It still retains its original coloring, and the trains still look the same (unlike the ones on Deja @ SFMM).

For those of you who don't know, Aftershock is the Deja vu from Six Flags Great America. Somehow, in the transfer, it became much smoother.

So we finally make it to the Aftershock part of the update!

I believe that's Brandon (since I'm such a good stalker).

Pretty cool trip report, and doesn't SFMM have those same exact orange seat belts on its Deja?

Great TR, I love natural landscapes and when TRs include the road trip. Also love all the pics of Aftershock. I spent so much time spent around that ride when it was at Great America i'm really glad to see it operating again. BTW it did have the orange seatbelts at SFGAm, the original train design didnt feature them but extra belts were added to all of them before they opened. They also added extra bars on the side and in the middle of the restraints to keep people from reaching up and touching the limit switches on the track.

Original design

Awesome TR. Silverwood is for sure a to-do for me this year. Hopefully during March break if all works out.

When did the drop tower change name to "Panic Plunge" and it's colour scheme? I have a Silverwood brochure from last year (picked up at my hotel in Seattle). Did it change it's name or have I just been living under a rock?

I know the side bars were added to stop people from touching the track, but the "chinrest" at the front? If that's actually what it is for.

^^I know the bars were added to keep people from touching the track (if they weren't there, my hands could probably touch it!), but I'm pretty sure I don't remember the orange lap seatbelts. Anyone with a photo of the Deja vu trains, please post it here.

^By what I know of, it's been like that since it opened in 2006. And I was actually able to check out the 'chinrest' on the one @ SFMM. Kinda weird, but I certainly wouldn't put my chin on it during the ride, my poor jaw would never stop hurting.

^I was short enough to use the 'chinrest' on the one @ SFMM.

Silverwood; Day 2 Part...4? Yeah, 4.

These things are very shakey, so I wouldn't recommend riding them if you have serious back problem/arthritis.

Next is Roaring Creek, the parks popular Arrow log flume ride. The one that I just splahed people with.

^ Tremors is number 15 and Timber Terror is 27 on Mitch Hawker's poll. So take that for what it's worth. I thoroughly enjoyed them when I was there in 2008.

I believe Deja Vu at SFMM had those orange seat belts also in 2006 when I was at SFMM, so they've been there for at least that long...most likely longer. Also, those orange seat belts on Aftershock were there on opening day in 2008.

Anyway, GREAT photos! Glad to see my Aftershock is still running strong!
