coasterkid124
Think about how many people get drunk and arrested at concerts, but at the same time look how much money they make off of it. Besides isn't the park hosting a wine tasting event of some sorts this year?
TheDarkMaxim
It's been a common thing that HFE wanted to remove alcohol from the park. They don't serve alcohol at any of their other parks, however it makes too much money for the park so they kept it,
DarienLaker
Heading out to Darien Lake tomorrow, does anyone know if Hook's Lagoon is going to be open?
SaraAB87
I doubt they would remove alcohol from this park, it makes huge money for the park, I have seen a ton of people drink then go on rides, other parks in the area serve alcohol as well as far as I know. Anyone else remember the days of company picnics at MFI and watching your parents coworkers get hammered at company picnics as a kid because I sure do! Sk610
I could see the park restricting alcohol sales to certain "restaurant" areas of the park. It creates more of a family friendly atmosphere in the park, and clearly that is what HFE is looking to promote. The only park I know of that sells absolutely no alcohol is magic kingdom. No alcohol anywhere there. The other three parks at wdw sell alcohol but magic kingdom is the true family spot and thus no alcohol anywhere. I hear dollywood and sdc may also be dry, but it doubt totally. I bet you can have a beer in a sit down restaurant at those two parks, but I'm not sure For those of you talking about the campground and PAC, those should and hopefully would be different. I think they are thinking of taking alcohol out of the park itself, and not the surrounding properties. Technically I don't think DL even owns the PAC, I think it owned by live nation or something. Even if DL does, I highly doubt HFE is managing it

I've actually never been to DW yet, but I'm almost certain its the same there. I'm not sure anyone who hasn't been to Branson really understands how much of a religious company HFEC is. Even the magic show at SDC ends with a gospel presentation. If you look anywhere beyond the rides and coasters, it almost feels like a church camp sometimes. I am certain that HFEC has objections to serving alcohol in a property that they are associated with, but they will deal with it as long as CNL is in the picture. coasterkid124
My running joke last year was the sign said "We miss you already" because they knew people weren't coming back because of the horrible operations. The park seems to have cleaned up its act so far. They actually put an effort into sprucing up Galaxy Theater as well. If it's gonna stand, it mind as we'll not be an eyesore. Never had one at MFI, but I do remember my Dad's shop picnics at Waldameer where they would have kegs of beer and give out prizes like tv's, vcr's and Buffalo Bills tickets. Ahhh...the good old days! And to those wondering about alcohol sales at Dollywood, I don't believe that they sell any there either. I usually check the park maps upon entering to see where they might have a place that sells beer because a cold one always tastes good on those hot summer days...even if it sets me back about $10. I doubt MFI does kegs anymore and I am not sure if it's still there or the area has been cleaned up but the picnic shelter we used to have was right by a creek or some other small body of water with a hill ( it wasn't the one by the paddle boats pond) though and people would get drunk on the kegs and then fall down the hill into the water and get filthy and muddy. They also would bring funnels and everything. Mind you I was like 10 at the time, I turned out fine and I don't drink either. Not too many places are allowing alcohol at company picnics these days, or having company picnics at all...we have them now at DL and it only includes their lousy company picnic food and gross soda machines with bees all over them. Too much of a liability.

I'm pretty sure that Darien Lake (or any other park) would not get 600 ft. tall coaster of any kind at all! I could see Darien Lake putting a (Gerstlauer) spinning coaster in where 'Cuda Falls was, next year. I wouldn't think that Herschend would get the right to use "Tony Hawk's Big Spin". coasterkid124
Now I heard a rumor today, and I'm not saying this is true or will happen by any means. This sounds extremely crazy but who knows. Today I overheard an operator by predator say that in the Cuda Falls space, they will be building "the tallest roller coaster like at Cedar Point". Now to me that sounds like a strata coaster like TTD. But this idea is extremely crazy and probably not true. The only reason why I'm posting this is because it came from a ride op and not just some crazy drunk in the park. We all know that the Yolocoaster idea started the same way, but I still find it hard to believe.
taytig
I was there this weekend and I really can't say much negative about the park. It was very clean and the landscaping was quite nice. Food was decent and not too pricy either. I will actually come back again this summer for sure as my 9 and 12 year old had a blast! I felt comfortable in the park, and didn't have to keep a super close eye on them. The coasters were fun and they loved the flats! There were also a lot of staff everywhere (many getting trained). The best thing is their new fun guarantees- if certain rides are closed for more than 4 hours, you can get a pass to return for free within the week. If any line is more than 45 minutes, go to guest services for a free front of the line pass. This is impressive. Now, about operations, they were slow. Like 4-6 minute train dispatches on predator and ride of steel. They need to really work on this. I did however appreciate that they checked the height of my daughter to make sure it was safe to ride. She is exactly 54". The ride op actually apologized for checking! I told him that I was thankful that he was looking out for safety. This kind of threw him for a loop! Anyways, long story short, I will return! No plans to visit Canada's wonderland though....to busy and crowded! Darien lake has won my family over!! Just a couple of fun pics now.

Speaking of coasters, the only type of coaster I think that Darien Lake need to put in is either a kiddie/family coaster that kids under 48" can ride with an adult. Well, I have two wild guesses about what's going in there either a coaster or new water slides!

People that find CW too overwhelming with size, and less of a family vacation atmosphere.
taytig
Don't get me wrong, my kids love the bigger rides, leviathan being one of our favourites (for those who have ridden), but I actually enjoyed Darien Lake better than CW. CW is just too crowded and the masses make it less enjoyable! I'd take a smaller park any day, even without the biggest and best coasters, because leaving at the end of the day tired and happy is more important than tired frustrated and grumpy. SaraAB87
Yeah I have to agree, I prefer a smaller to medium size park where I can actually get on some rides instead of the endless waits at the big parks. Now I don't want a park that has little to nothing or just one coaster, Waldameer and sea breeze are also good, especially Waldameer.

IF DL ever gets a new coaster, I would place my money on a smaller family coaster or something like the one just put into Kentucky Kingdom. There have been too many problems with TTD and Ka where it would be a liability to have something that massive going down for maintenance issues all of the time. Too much of a financial risk for a smaller park to take.

If Darien Lake were to get something like Top Thrill Dargster or Kingda Ka, they wouldn't be able to afford it let alone keep it up and running for years. They would either have leave the coaster SBNO or scrap it because no other park would want it!
rcjp
Speaking of TTD and KK, can anyone explain why LSMs are only used for "slower" launches? I know that they need more power but is it because of that, the construction cost, or simply because the technology isn't developed enough for higher speeds? I'm pretty sure I read or watched something where LSMs or LIMs were used for 200+ mph launches (still in a testing phase, though)
