DarienLaker
Well looks like my question about Darien Lake reopening 'Cuda Falls has been answered via the quote from their Facebook page! 'Cuda Falls has retired and moved South. This area is being prepared to allow for future expansion. But I wonder what's going to be in its place? I'm hoping for a set of new slides to ease the crowds over in the Swirl City/Tornado/Big Kahuna area! Anyone else has any predictions about what Darien Lake might be putting in 'Cuda Falls place? TheDarkMaxim
I strongly suspect that that area will not have new waterpark rides. The large seperation causes a lot of logistical issues. Also, that entire area is a huge prime piece of real estate. If the park is going to a new roller coaster, here's the best chance of that happening. (Thought, maybe they cancelled the predator conversion because of said project.)
DarienLaker
I really want Darien Lake to get a new water slides to replace 'Cuda Falls as much as I want to see them remodel Predator or get a new coaster! That area where 'Cuda Falls was has always been water slides with Rainbow Mountain, Cascade Canyon, and Floodgate Falls before it, then in 1994 the first set of Rainbow Mountain slides were removed for 'Cuda Falls, the second set (Cascade Canyon) was removed in 2002 for Shipwreck Falls, and Floodgate Falls was left for dead. I can't imagine Darien Lake putting anything else beside new water slides in where 'Cuda Falls was. Besides another set of water slides would reduce long wait times for the other slides! On the other hand 'Cuda Falls' place would make a good place for a food stand, shop, game stand/arcade, flat ride or new coaster especially if they decide to remove the lockers from the old water park entrance! adamico2
^We know you do, but it's not going to happen. Yes the park needs some more slides, but when they do their next water park expansion, expect it to be near the rest of the current water park. Barracuda Bay is officially dead; let it go. coasterkid124
I smell 1000 foot looping coaster. All kidding aside the park is doing what's best for business and allowing a potential new popular ride to be installed.
Sk610
I agree that removing. Ida falls was a smart move and it opens up a huge plot of land for future development...a prime plot of land. And I totally agree that Darien will now need something to replace Cuba falls, but I would expect all future water par expansions to happen on the same side of the main entrance walkway as the rest of the existing water park. Plus the now get to take down that awful foot bridge that connected the two spaces As to speculation for the old Cuba falls site, definitely a coaster of good size, and possibly even a flat ride or even two. I can see it turning into a new truly themed area that may even wrap around over by mind eraser making a very large loop at the front of the park
SbSteveZ
Bear with me here - I'm not real good at the whole "Water Slide" topic... but to clear my confusion... This is the "Left for dead" Floodgate Falls right? (Please ignore the weird woman on the water tube... This was the largest, clearest image I could find via Google ;D ) Secondly, if 'Cuda Falls is to be removed, (sorry for the stupidity of this question...) Would they probably be removing the algae pond that is floodgate falls along with it, seeing that they're so close? 'nother stupid question, was there some reason that they didn't remove Floodgate falls upon its closing in the first place? Since they did remove other slides from the area when Cuda Falls was put in... I guess - 'twas what DarienLaker stated... Thanks! I now leave you with an image of the fallen. RIP Cuda Falls
Golddisk
SbSteveZ - Floodgate falls will likely be removed as well. The reason it hadn't been removed before was because it could undermine the stability of 'Cuda Falls, at least that's what I've heard. I think its exciting news to hear that 'Cuda falls is going to be replaced. They've had a handful of problems over the past few years plus there was the useless and obsolete floodgate gate falls that nothing could be done with. I think it'll be really cool to see the area redeveloped.
Geauga Dog
Would it be too outrageous for Darien to remove the slides and level the hill they sit on, using the dirt to maybe fill in one of the smaller lakes on the Splashtown side to open up more room for more waterslides? linearinduction
I'm no expert, but I don't see how removing a foam covered concrete channel maybe 36" deep could "undermine the stability" of the hill and rest of the slides. Didn't they have to remove part of the hill for shipwreck falls when they built that?
Sk610
Yes they could level that hill down and use the soil to fill in other spots. Especially to make new room over in the water park area. All they would have to do is drain the lake a bit, fill in with dirt and re fill the lake. They could add some pretty large space in the water park without doing much. I also expect part of the lake near mind eraser to get filled in to creat a full circle pathway to go from the spot where cuda falls currently sits to walk around towards ME. I also would expect to see some spill over into the handicapped parking area when they make their expansion that way as well. These are very large projects and I totally expect this to take a few years to complete. My only thing is that I hope HFE doesn't just drop a coaster over there and be done. I would like to see a large themed area with a new restaurant, games and a few good flats along with a coaster. And I would like to see it tied into ME area if you didn't get that from my above post. If they do that, I would thing that ME may finally get a new paint job and may even get re themed to fit with the newly created area
DarienLaker
So with 'Cuda Falls gone, I assume the water park bridge will gone too? or otherwise that bridge is going to lead to a literal dead end. Does this also mean Darien Lake is going remove the lockers from that teal house that stood in front of 'Cuda Falls and use it for something? else as well? They can relocate the lockers that were in the lockers from that teal house that stood in front of 'Cuda Falls if they were going re-purpose it. Sk610
Most likely the bridge over the main walkway will be removed as well. If it hasn't already been done. And he's I would expect the bunnies to be relocated as well. That main blue building will probably get torn down for whatever new is to come. If they do I right, I hope the move out to even include silver bullet and haymaker as well into a new area there

Didn't they have to remove part of the hill for shipwreck falls when they built that? I do agree with you. Maybe it has something to do with the piping and water pumps for the 'Cuda Falls? Maybe tearing it out would have caused damage to 'Cuda Falls piping. I really have no idea how they worked or why floodgate falls was never removed, but there must be a reason. Especially with how gross it would get over the course of the year. Sk610 - None of the expansion can spill over into the parking lot unless they decide to add more parking elsewhere. Especially handicap parking. That fills up very quickly on busy days, and on busy concerts days all the lots can get filled to capacity pretty quickly. Following up on those two points, if a major addition is installed and boosts attendance in the next couple of years, they will need all the parking they currently have plus possibly some additional parking. TheDarkMaxim
What you see with floodgate isn't everything. It has a large foundation under the surface, as well as all of it's pumping systems being built in a building under ground. Also, it's a bit different than shipwreck because much of it is under cuda falls. So it would have a larger impact on the structural integrity of cuda. It most likely wasn't worth the cost of a tedious removal when cuda was only expected to last a few more seasons.
DarienLaker
O.K. I know a made kind of a joke about 'Cuda Falls being replace with a pile of dirt being an attraction, but there's other candidates for replacing 'Cuda Falls, like an observation area for Shipwreck Falls and Slingshot, a picnic area if they decided to allow people to bring outside food to park, a new flat ride or roller coaster, etc.
Geauga Dog
I also expect part of the lake near mind eraser to get filled in to creat a full circle pathway to go from the spot where cuda falls currently sits to walk around towards ME. I had always though Sling Shot was in a rather odd location right next to the gate and since you mentioned creating a full circle pathway what would you think if they added a new path from the Main Gate towards Mind Eraser's path, relocating the Sling Shot to the new path, thus creating better traffic flow from the front of the park instead of just one path that leads to and from the entrance? Just an idea but what if the park decided to relocate the catered picnic area to the current "Cuda Falls spot to expand Splashtown towards Ride of Steel thus making that entire side of the park all water park? With Big Kahuna already near the current catered picnic area park it just seems like a logical move.

Sk610
Sure they can easily spill into the handicapped parking lot. Parks do it all the time. DL even did it when they added the splashdown area with the lazy river. It sits on a spot that used to parking lot. All they would have to do is make the front of the rows handicapped parking and be ok. Concert parking does not use the park parking area anymore, so that shouldn't be a big issue. It could totally happen and would make for a great flow pattern around that area. Slingshot could easily be moved to just about anywhere very easily btw
