ernierocker
Looks like we may kiss Lake Monster goodbye. A person was just thrown off of New Texas Giant and was killed. Remember, NTAG has Gerstlauer trains, and Outlaw Run has RMC trains. We will have to wait for more details before blaming anyone.
DarienLaker
There is no reason to give our hopes up about Lake Monster just because of somebody got thrown out of and killed on a similar coaster to what is planned to be built. They haven't even made the "Lake Monster" plans official yet!
coasterjunkie1975
Dear Darien Lake Please,Please,Please follow through on this and build Lake Monster and who cares what the ride is called as long as it's awesome. Be great to have a second world class wooden coaster within a 3 hour drive of Toronto.

kailisun98
It would be nice to see real wooden inversions on this coaster rather than the topper track. Something like Hades 360.
Philrad71
Definitely intrigued by the sounds of this! I'm wondering why they wouldn't call it Lake Erie Monster with it being fairly close to Lake Erie - there have always been tall tales about some kind of monster lurking within the lake. And...they could always serve this up in the park to promote the coaster! Mmmmmm...Lake Erie Monster beeeeer!!!
coasterkid124
^I actually had the same idea earlier. I hope that this goes through, as we are way overdue for a new thrill coaster.
DougMJr
Went to the park yesterday and didn't notice any construction markers around either of the lakes, but I didn't look too hard. As far as this project goes (not that we know much), if SDC does not shut down Outlaw Run because of NTAG's ejection then I think it is safe to assume that it will have little to no impact on the status of this concept. coasterkid124
Does anybody know if Outlaw Run has seatbelts? edit: I just looked it up, it doesn't. If the plans go through, I think that we will see seatbelts on Lake Monster.
coasterkid124
Sorry for the double post, but I went up to the park today and looked for any clues of Lake Monster. I was tempted to ask some employees if they knew about it, but I figured that either they don't even know about it yet, or cannot say anything yet. I was exiting Viper, when I noticed that the back door of Galaxy Theater was open. Nothing big is in there, just a few boxes and pallets. Neither the UFO or Scrambler are in there. It seems like kind of a waste to keep it up, because it seems like the building doesn't serve much of a purpose anymore. If the coaster plans go through, that area seems to be a favorite for Lake Monster to get built on. (Yet again, just speculation)

If the plans go through, I think that we will see seatbelts on Lake Monster. Why? Because of the Texas Giant incident? Outlaw Run doesn't use the same trains as NTAG and Outlaw Run has been running as usual since the incident.

chickenbowl
Just got sent this customer survey about a concept for next year's thrill ride. Neither the email or the survey asked for confidentiality so here is a screenshot. My response to the survey was pretty much begging them to build this. Here are the bullet points if they are hard to read. -3,190 FEET OF CUTTING EDGE ENGINEERING -WORLDS FIRST WOODEN COASTER WITH A WING OVER DROP -ZERO G CAMELBACK, HOP REVERSAL, SUSPENDED CORKSCREW. Fingers crossed, I really want them to go with this concept. I know this development has been masked by the recent NTAG accident, but if this comes into fruition, this will be amazing! A coaster of this caliber can definitely put Darien Lake on the map as a must-visit! (To me and other enthusiasts at least). I can't wait to see what else RMC can come up with after seeing their current line-up of coasters!

I would think so, but lap bars seem pretty safe on their own as long as the passenger correctly fits.
Canobie Coaster
Adding the proposed Lake Monster coaster would definitely get me back to Darien Lake. I really enjoyed the park, but thought they needed one more awesome coaster to make them a major coaster destination and this would definitely do it. Tysnave
I don't think they need seatbelts on it. If you have been on outlawrun then you know the restraints are heavy and stiff. they are hard to push up. They won't come up on their own even if it does come undone. Quite honestly if someone can fall out of a locked restraint. Them adding seatbelts won't do much.
coasterkid124
I just found sad news (to me at least). During the WNYCC's Holiday Party, in January, park GM Bob Montgomery spoke of some upcoming changes to Predator that would likely see just the station and lift hill remain. He said the coaster would go over the water. Bob also stated they were looking at several companies who use steel structures for their wood coasters. The Lake Monster just might be the project he was talking about. So, Predator will most likely be gone in the future. Based on the quote I found, we may not necessarily see another RMC coaster. It sounds like Herschend is even looking into companies like Gravity Group to make the transformation. If GG gets the job, there is a good chance of Timberliners on the ride. I am sad to see Predator get the axe, but I think it would be better for the park if they get a new coaster anyways. Edit: Here's the source http://www.coasterforce.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36423

coasterkid124
It could very well still be RMC. According to their website, they have done track work to Predator in the past.

ajfelice
*IF* Predator was to be leaving, I would be saddened. Predator has improved exponentially over the past few years. However, this proposed concept might just be the kick in the butt Darien Lake needs to get back into the positive spotlight. A very unique and thrilling ride that can't be found in any other park remotely near them will surely bring in people. As much as I would love for Lake Monster and Predator to coexist as they would likely provide a great contrast in experience (more traditional versus modern woodie), sacrificing Predator is justified for this big step in getting Darien Lake back on the map. Edit: P.S.: this thread is a love/hate relationship. This park is interesting to me due to it's proximity to me and recent expansions/modifications, but the amount of pointless fanboy/girl posts really hinder good discussion. Just saying. coasterkid124
Gravity Group also had done previous work when the Predator originally opened. They did structure design work.
DarienLaker
Gravity Group also had done previous work when the Predator originally opened. They did structure design work. Did Gravity Group even exist in 1990 and did they really helped build the Predator?
