Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Yes, I made the mistake of visiting the park on Post Malone day (yikes!!) and during my 5 hours at the park, I only made it onto 3 rides: Tantrum (1 hour wait), Boomerang (1.5 hour wait) and Silver Bullet (30 minute wait). Food lines were horrendous, RoS and Viper were multiple-hour long waits all day. Most of these insane waits were due to one train ops. This park does fine on low attendance days but SUFFERS on the busy days.

I just hope whatever they decide to do they don't waste money on a stupid parade or "festival" thing like the Mardi Gras ones they have done. It feels like a cop-out when they do that when they don't want to add a ride. The money would be better spent on sprucing up the park and getting new trains for the coasters even if it isn't a sexy addition for the GP.

Honestly yea, especially in Buffalo, Mardi Gras wouldn't really make sense here..

It'd be cool if they tried Holiday In The Park here, cause if they can do it in Great Adventure & Great America, they can for sure do it here, but just be ready to see lots of days either closing early or just not opening.

I'm looking forward to a Six Flags Darien Lake pin trading program. I have a lot of Six Flags pins from when they owned DL in the past. I should post my pins on this forum. Would anyone be interested in seeing them?

That'd be awesome! Love seeing a throwback memory of the park.

Hey everyone looking to go to the park on this Friday July 6th, wondering what the crowds will be like? I've heard to avoid concert days at all costs and luckily I don't see any concert that day but wondering if the holiday weekend will bump crowds any or not? Just trying to know what to expect thanks!

It honestly shouldn’t be too bad, even on holiday weekends, the park’s attendance numbers are pretty normal. Just remember that even if I line for a coaster looks like only a 30 minute wait, you will be waiting MUCH longer due to the fact that they run one train on every coaster other than Tantrum.

Some super quick updates for the park, photos included of course! Ride of Steel, Pirate and Grizzly Bear Run were all closed today.

New “Thrill Pass” seems to be like a cheaper version of a Season Pass with less benefits. New in 2018 (?)

Yay for the return of Fright Fest!

Does anyone know what the heck is up with RoS lately?? It seems like for the past month now, that whole area is closed more than it is open. This is starting to worry me on if this will be an all-season issue. Based on the permanently printed sign and all the metal barriers, it appears RoS will be down for a very long time.

UPDATE: figured out why RoS was closed, it was stuck at the very top of the lift hill. Found a video of it on the Snapchat map at the park.

This seems to be becoming more of an issue. Last year, I saw RoS stuck on the lift multiple times. Makes me wonder if something in the computer is seriously wrong.

Here is a picture I got of the video:

As promised, here are my Six Flags Darien Lake pins. These were bought the last year Six Flags owned the park. These are high-end "Disney-quality" pins. I can only hope that Six Flags will bring back similar pins to Darien Lake.

My beautiful Six Flags Darien Lake hat. I am looking forward to buying and creating a new Six Flags Darien Lake hat like this next year.

Because they can't load/unload trains fast enough for three running to make sense.

Bingo.

Since the ride doesn't have a MCBR, running three trains is useless unless trains are disaptched at their very minimum interval. It is next to impossible to run 3 trains on MCBR-less coasters without at least one stacking. See: HangTime, Banshee. I think only Fury can get away with it since it has a freakishly huge lift hill.

This thread is always a treat

Speaking of which...I guess that it HAS been a while...

Maybe Six Flags will refurbish 'Cuda Falls and rebuild Batman: The Escape?

Cuda Falls will go down as the most legendary non-coaster attraction on TPR

Six Flags really needs to have some of their representatives to come to the park for a day and see what's up, and how they're gonna fix these problems off-season.

Look back a few pages, but they did have a large group from SF corporate at the park asking lots of questions. Specifically, lots of questions on why the coasters all run only one train and why the giant wheel has no lights on it. My guess is that they either fix these things this year or in the offseason

^ to be totally honest - though I know it’s not the case. When I first saw that RoS was down for the count I for a split second thought that may be why. Lord knows I’m far from correct but a guy can dream, right?

Perhaps, the "Superman" plaza is the first area they want to fix up? Wouldn't that make the most sense, to start in that area? Just think if they actually re-themed RoS to Superman, added another train and really re-themed that entire plaza. You all would be very happy with that, wouldn't you?

Besides fresh paint in the areas that need it, I would be very happy with new trains on most rides that need them, or a second train on rides that can run two. I know RoS recently got a new train, so it just needs a second. But Mind Eraser, Predator and Viper could all use new trains/second trains to help capacity there.

Someone earlier mentioned about a possibility of Darien Lake getting a Skywarp for 2019, and maybe it's going in the land behind the black gate next to Ride of Steel, so maybe they're prepping and opening that area up?

I don't know, it's really weird why RoS is closed.
