Six Flags Darien Lake (SFDL) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^I am assuming that you work at the park seeing that you know all this inside info, and can get those pics.

As for the three new rides, I think that each one will suit a different age group. One obvious one is the Sidewinder Frisbee for thrill riders. Then I would guess that a family ride, and a borderline ride would also be added. Borderline as in a Star Flyer or something, as it is great for families but not overly boring.

I wonder what the three new flats are? Just hope they're not kiddie ones or ones that you can find at Darien Lake two closest competitors (Seabreeze and Fantasy Island), but I doubt that Scrambler would be considered new because it's an old ride that they brought back from storage!

Right now, I have gave my hopes up for "Lake Monster" ever coming to Darien Lake, but frankly I think that Darien Lake needs a new coaster anyways!

Here's my wild guesses for Darien Lake new coaster in 2015?

.A family coaster that kids and adults can ride, like a spinning coaster or a family suspended coaster

.A launched coaster, a "clone" of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's Superman: Ultimate Flight, an impulse coaster, or a "clone" of Cedar Point's Marverick

.A new GCI wooden coaster to replace Predator

.An RMC wood/steel remodel of Predator

The GP isn't going to notice if it is a clone or not, so that doesn't matter. As long as it is a coaster.

You're right, that is why I've edited the post to this and included some "cloned" speculations.

This is a CNL park. They hate spending money so they definitely won't spend 20 million on a Maverick clone. More realistic is a family type coaster similar to Steel Lasso. It is unlikely that we will see a coaster added to the park at all though for some time. I think a flat or two is more CNL style.

As long as CNL is in power, this is my reaction too. If CNL ever builds a new coaster I would have a stroke.

I feel that Herschend will build a new coaster, if they decide to buy the park at the end of this year or next year. It could very well be a Gerstlauer model similar to Mystery Mine that will be thrilling, and suitable for families.

Nothing wrong with a Gerstlauer. They do make a decent spinning coaster (Tony Hawk/Pandemonium at SFStL) and Euro-fighter (having only ridden Dare Devil Dive at SFOG). Based on past additions at their other parks Herschend will theme it and put a story behind that theme. With Darien's country type atmosphere the possibilities are endless.

I would just be happy with Darien Lake getting a new ride whatever it's a thrill or family flat ride, a coaster, or a even a new water slide or two to ease the crowds in the water park.

Now I'm wondering if Darien Lake will getting any of the rides from Hard Rock/Freestyle park? Unless they're all going to Vietnam!

Used but still current rides would be a great way to replace some of the parks aging or removed flats. Darien relies on locals and most locals haven't been on anything that isn't at Seabreeze, MFI or Waldameer or what is at your local carnival. If they get used rides the public won't even notice. Like most people here I would like them to focus on getting something that has not been seen in WNY, southern Ontario or northern PA. If they put in a duplicate of something that is already at one of the other parks in the general vicinity I will be disappointed.

My first thing would be how do you know that we are geting three flat rides? Also, if that is the case and you are leaking information that is classified from the park, that could jeopardize your job as well.

Now if these reports are true, i would expect something to replace ranger like a hawk. The second flat i would expect would be something families could ride that is thrilling, but mildly thrilling. My third would be for a new waterslide. HFE seems to like to add a waterslide often when they add multiple flat rides. They did that exact thing at dollywood a few years ago. It covers all their bases.

Also, i fully expect the flats to be used. As long as they are in good mechanical order, who cares! The waterslide may have to be new, but if they can find what they want used, so be it. I would love to see the old el dorado drive in from Geauga Lake at DL as i have seen it for sale as used recently and it was a very cool ride that i think HFE could actually do something really cool with

That actually is a very good pun/idea. i hope the markwting team for the park reads this and uses it.

On the flip side rhe discussion was moving pretry quickly with the speculation of three new rides...lets pick that up again...

I would fully expect little to no work for prep to be done before the park closes for the season, other than the possible removal of the ranger. and that i wouldntexpect until september when they can work durring the week without being interrupted.

I would have to agree that September is a good time to start with construction. With the weather around here so unpredictable, it's never a bad thing to start early. I don't think that the park is doing anything too big for Fright Fest this year, as the park mentioned that they are only doing stuff the first two weeks of October.

This is a sign that construction will begin, because in September maintenance is usually setting up Halloween props.

The park will probably run the haunted house, Road Rage, and Twister Possessed. Twister was no big deal as they just added some music and red dye to the fountain. The bumper cars had to be enclosed for the offseason so weather wouldn't harm the cars.

As for new rides, I'm seeing a package from Zamperla coming to the park. If Ranger is replaced, it will likely be a Hawk. The park could market it as a similar experience as Ranger, but with suspended cars and a more open experience. Next, would be a Discovery to go in UFO's pad. I've been pushing for this idea for awhile now. The pad right now is an eyesore just being boarded up. The park is better off reusing it, and moving UFO elsewhere if it ever returns. The park should also order whatever parts they need to fix Motocoaster's train while they're at it.

The third attraction is trickier. I'm sure that the park would also like to add a family ride to balance things. I always thought that an Aqua Twist would be a good addition for the park. Zamperla does offer a similar model called Watermania. There is a model at Coney Island. I would think that this ride would go in Ranger's spot, and the replacement would go elsewhere in the park where it would fit the theme better.

I do like the idea of putting in a few zamperla rides. The discovery looks very nice and similar to a frisbee, but probably cheaper. The hawk looks like a fantastic alternative to ranger. and any of those water rides like watermania and the water battle look awesome. I personally would welcome that trio of rides as the would be new and very different from anything at any of the local parks

^I'd be happy with that lineup of rides or even a Mack Splash Battle which Dollywood and SDC both have.

IIRC Seabreeze has a single arm Zamperla Hawk but a double arm like Kennywood's Aero 360 would be a nice fit plus if one side goes down for some reason they could always just run one side. I'd stick this ride in the old UFO spot and leave the old Ranger spot for something that could fit in Rowdy's Ridge better (I'd say Rockin' Tug but MFI just put one in recently to replace the Crazy Bus).
