Busch Gardens Williamsburg (BGW BGE) Discussion Thread

P. 467: Loch Ness Monster Update Tour

Recommended Posts

From one of the POV's we shot during media day you can definitely see a fair bit of new grass and trees coming in. I feel that over the next year or two the views on this ride will add even more to the experience. Like you said, it's BGW so they are gonna do it right when it comes to landscaping.

Is it even possible to plant fully grown trees?

I'm not sure why I found this post sort of funny, but yes, it is very very common to plant fully grown trees as part of landscaping.

Thats funny since I live in Vegas and casinos plant fully grown palm trees all the time. (I guess some people aren't used to seeing that I guess).

No, they actually did plant a couple of new trees. Look back at Chuck's last update before media day and you can see several photos where small have been planted.

I see deciduous trees getting relocated all the time here in TN. In fact, there is a nursery and several of those tree-transplanting trucks stationed about two miles from my house. I never knew that the palm trees have such blocky soil bases when they get relocated, though. It looks so weird all perfectly geometric like that!

Is it even possible to plant fully grown trees? It seems like there should be some more landscaping and I trust BGW to do it right.

The million dollar question to me is how tall/mature of a tree can you possibly relocate? I guess an answer to that would also partly answer your question depending on what you meant by "fully grown trees", i.e. how big of a tree species are we talking about?

EDIT: Guinness World records list the largest tree ever transplanted, but I would think this was a kind of one-off project. It doesn't look like it was a cheap service lol.

Yeah I don't know too much about landscaping and the ins and outs of the theme park business. I just really love roller coasters

Is it possible to get that huge truck and tree into the hilly ride area (especially the inside of the track) after construction is finished?

Are we really debating the logistics of planting a tree at Busch Gardens?

It's official - We have run out of things to discuss on the internet.

"Well guys, InvadR's opening day is done. The discussion died down."

"...so now what do we talk about?"

"Gardening?"

"Sure, okay."

We need fully grown trees with full foliage interspersed with the brand new roller coaster now! Blah!

Calm down people, it's Busch Gardens, if there is any park that is going to make sure they have trees where trees belong it's Busch Gardens.

We now interrupt this thread for a video of a cat being a jerk.

Thank you. We now return you to the BGW thread, which is already in progress.

I've really been enjoying the backseat POV's of this thing. Cannot wait to try it. Doesn't look insane, just pure woodie fun.

This year, I took advantage of the two-park Fun Card/Silver Pass sale and visited BGW for a couple of hours today. I arrived around 2. By then, they were letting people park for free in the overflow Scotland/Bavaria lot by the brewery. Around 3, they closed the gates for capacity. Nevertheless, I rode InvadR after waiting in an hour-and-a-half line...

Beyond the short ride duration (1 minute), everything else about the ride is fantastic - the intensity, the restraints, the theming, the smoothness, the ejector airtime - it's all there.

8.5/10 - go and ride now, but avoid being a fool like me. Ride first thing in the morning to avoid the numerous queue switchbacks.

(Sidenote: does anyone else appreciate the flatscreen in the corner of the station that shows ride capacity stats and a live dispatch countdown? Maybe it's just me...)

Now for some airtime smilies to provide a pictorial description of the InvadR experience:

(Second sidenote: Robb, I look forward to the next "We Are On a Log Flume" rendition involving simultaneous TPR teams on Le Scoot and InvadR. Gotta make use of the interactive rides. )

Unfortunately it might be a while. At the moment BGW doesn't look to be in the cards for our 2017 or 2018 trips, but we do need to get back there since the last time we visited was the opening year for Verbolten.

I know that there are issues for Howl-O-Scream and their holiday event, but does BGW ever hit capacity during "Spring Break" around this time?

Side note - we had a coaster insiders tour booked for Saturday and they called to say there was a mechanical issue with Griffon's lift sidecar. Kind of stinks - but still looking forward to the tour (they also said you'd get a one-time entry pass for InvadR which will definitely help.

It's spring break for many of the local schools....then there's this new coaster too bringing in even more people.

^ The "thrilling" guess of mine is to add to the excitement and anticipation.

My actual guess would be to allow better cycling time between the blocks. I know back when I worked on BBW, we actually had to be careful not to send the train out too early, because the computer would let us dispatch as soon as the train cleared lift 1, but if we sent another out right away, when the next train behind came along it wouldn't be timed right and we'd get a setup to stop a block intrusion. Computer technology has come a long way since 1984 and it's been many years since I worked a coaster, but I'd be willing to be they want the lift going slow enough so that if they send out another train as soon as the block is clear, the one in front has enough time to complete the course without the new train getting stopped. Just a guess!
