P. 467: Media Town Hall Report

Recommended Posts

Quick edit: I sat in the test seat. It was more comfy than Mach, but not as comfy as the B&M's. The middle "bump" that juts out goes halfway down the seat is pointed, making it feel a bit odd. I probably wouldn't recommend slamming your butt into the seat.

Some people would call that a "pleasure ridge"

And good luck, hope you get the opening crew job!

Was at the part yesterday - beautiful day thanks to the weather, but it got pretty crowded! Cars were being parked and guests trammed over from overflow down the street, and Griffon maintained an hour wait all day, with Alpengeist and Apollo at around a half hour each during the busier portions of the day thanks to their crews. Later in the night Apollo was dispatching the second one train crested the lift, before the next had even made the final turn around the brake shed, and Alpengeist was doing just as well too!

Anyways, while we were in line yesterday afternoon for Apollo, they were (I'm assuming) shooting a commercial for Verbolten, or at least doing something to get people in line interested. Everyone had their cameras out and were talking about it, so whatever it was it worked, and if it's on TV I'm sure it'll work some more!

Oh, and while I'm here - do the seats on Mach Tower no longer shake? I remember it being advertised with the music playing that stops at the top and the shaking seats, and neither of those things were happening yesterday.

These two were dressed up in suit and dress in front of the Verbolten car.

Interesting. I liked the music, it just added something else and made it different from other drop towers, but I could care less about the vibration. It was just weird, and I could easily time the drop- suspense is key for drop towers IMO, and Mach just didn't have any.

^^Interesting! I just assumed it was for Verbolten, considering that they had a film crew and the van wrapped in an advertisement. Can't say the people there looked much like what Dan and Janis look like in pictures I can find of them, but if that's who they are, then congrats to them! Looks like they were married on the ride in 2000? Quality wedding right there!

^Even worse for the "suspense," on our first ride the operator counted down from five at the top. Our second ride was better, he sang Hotel California on request the entire way up the tower and slowed down his lines until we dropped in the middle of one.

Mach Tower's seats were vibrating during Passholder Preview Day, but I don't think they have since then. Personally, I think the drop works better without the vibration--the drop's more of a surprise that way. The virbrating seats were always a bit odd.

But enough of Mach Tower. Are we ready for another Verbolten update? If so, great! If not, well, you're getting one anyway.

BGW has added more touches to the station since our Easter update. Here's a look at what they've been up to.

Guten tag, Verbolten.

It costs extra to stay in the Creepy Vines from Hell Suite at the Black Forest Inn.

They've added quite a few new signs. Looks like the wait is approximately 32 days, 1 hour, and 45 minutes.

You're welcome.

Looks like Gerta and Gunter are nearly ready to open for business.

If you're a tourist and feel that you lack a "center," here's the place for you.

Here's one for all of you with a lighting-fixture fetish.

The signs for the boarding area are up--I like how they're made from old mufflers and tailpipes.

The Verbolten trains are quivering with antici . . . pation.

The water-filled dummies have already ridden Verbolten; therefore, they're cooler than anyone else here.

OK, I made a mistake last time. The steel boxes where you can stow your gear are here.

Gerda and Gunter don't miss a trick, do they?

More creepy vines.

Speaking of creepy, they've been working a bit on the Gunter Mobile.

Oh, there he is.

There's still tweaking to be done on the first launch, . . .

. . . the second launch, . . .

19a.jpg.09796189e431fb374d9a7cc28269092d.jpg

. . . and the bridge.

20.thumb.jpg.0473907e954582ef9133b07d97f2dae3.jpg

The car out front is getting more and more overgrown. This makes Beemer Boy sad.

You know, it's gotta be tough to shift gears in this heap.

You can tell its springtime at Verbolten when the Porsche is in bloom.

Gerda and Gunter welcome you to Oktoberfest.

But they're still putting some finishing touches on the place.

The bridge from the Rhine River Cruise.

The first launch from far away . . .

. . . and up close (zoomed in from the Rhine River).

27.jpg.44e83d0dd2f3dc792845bbf3fa2a6889.jpg

There's new Verbolten merchandise, too.

28.jpg.a49593bfccd2c32ea6c8399d3a13389a.jpg

Klassy.

29.jpg.ee5af7b79393c144b98087ca36c8c612.jpg

Klassier.

And the countdown continues . . .

^At the hard hat tour last month, they did mention that the park had been testing it; but at that point, they were justy starting to install the themed elements in the show building. I imagine there's been more testing, but not during operating hours.

Travel Channel was apparently holding a shoot at the park all weekend. There was a sign for it outside the employee/preferred parking entrance.

From various sources (BGWFans/friends/coworkers), the shaking/music are being worked on at the moment. The ride had a huge breakdown last week and the music/shaking might've been temporarily sacrificed as a result.

I studied German in college, and i love a good pun (hence the name) but that 'Fahrt' joke is just stupid. Nobody's going to get it unless they know what that word means.

I'm not so worried about the floating tunnel. When you're on the ride it's probably not as noticeable that it just ends. Thanks for another great update Chuck, the ride just keeps looking better and better!

i really hope they don't trim the drop like 13, that completely ruins what could be a fun opening section! though it looks like there is one 1/3 of the way down =[

I believe that metal piece is there just there so that a proximity sensor can be attached to the track. At least I hope.

I noticed the mounting piece on the drop and was wondering how long it would take for it to come up, since I hadn't seen it mentioned before. There's next to no chance that it's a trim, considering that the drop comes off a brake run in the bridge. Like swiver said, it's likely there so that a sensor can be mounted, signaling to the computer that the train has cleared the brake run.

call me picky but the one thing i dont like is the red sign above the seat.i cant say the correct word because fluffy fluffy bunnies etc comes up instead. but anyways, the sign looks really bland and out of place compared to the other signs...
