What is your favorite band?

Recommended Posts

Butch Walker. Hands down.

Other than him (as an artist and a producer), I can't really nail down any one particular band or style of music at all. I have 30 gb of crap on my Zune.

I'll just name a few:

Talib Kweli, Aesop Rock, Gym Class Heroes, P.O.S, Kanye West, Between the Buried and Me, As I Lay Dying, Lamb of God, Walls of Jericho, Wu-Tang and ODB, With Honor, Bane, Suicidal Tendencies, The Misfits, AFI, Fall Out Boy, Timbaland, The Fall of Troy, Eagles of Death Metal, the Locust, Notorious B.I.G, Ludacris, Norma Jean, Blackalicious, Styx, Still Remains, Senses Fail, Relient K, Public Enemy, O.A.R., Dave Matthews Band, NIN, NOFX, Mr. Bungle, N.W.A., 2Pac -- I'm just going to stop, because you get the idea.

Do you like "In Rainbows" as much as I do? I think it's their second best album after "OK Computer".

For me, Kid A is by far my favorite, then OK Computer. The Bends, Hail To The Thief, and In Rainbows are about equal in my eyes, they each have their strengths and weaknesses and it's splitting hairs to figure out which one I like best. Amnesiac would be slightly below those simply because it's Kid B-Sides, and Pablo Honey would be in a dumpster because that album sucks and doesn't count.

But yes, I love In Rainbows.

I think Kid A is about in the middle of their albums for me. I used to be heavily into electronic music, which has made me a very harsh critic of it. Hail to the Thief is a little bit over the top at points for me with lyrics like, "walk into the jaws of hell". The Bends is good, but still sounds like a band trying to find their own sound. And, yeah, there is little good about Pablo Honey, except for maybe the fact that they named an album after a Jerky Boys call.

Kid A came out a month or so after I started college, and it sort of became the soundtrack to me adjusting to life beyond the sheltered walls of my upper middle class suburban upbringing. It also really really broadened my horizons musically.

Yeah, it's remarkable that a rock band produced a really good electronic album. OK Computer was a big reason for me to start listening to rock again after years of listening to mostly electronic music and jazz.

Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. They have included a lot more ska/punk into their CDs lately (ugh!). But, when they play traditional Ska/Jazz, it's perfection. Unfortunately, since they are in Japan and nobody here has really heard of them, they don't really come to the US much. They have been here once in 2004. Evidently, enough people knew of them to sell out the House of Blues in Hollywood. Best show I have ever been to!

Stone Sour is still at the top of my list. Their singer, Cory (right?) has such an awesome voice. He can go from screaming stuff to a soft voice. They have done some terriffic covers of songs aswell. Check out:

-Bother

-Sillyworld

-Inhale

Shinedown is also one of my favorites. I absolutely LOVED their cover of "Simple Man" by Skynard. I'm finding more and more songs from them I like. Check out:

-45

-Burning Bright

-Simple Man

A bunch of other classics like Led, Cream, Rolling Stones, Metallica, Doobie Bros., Soundgarden, and Velvet Revolver.

^ I'm aware. I was just going along with you saying it's too bad you'll never get to see them in concert.

I know a couple of people who saw them with Paul Rogers and said it was really good, but I refuse to believe them, because in my mind, Freddie Mercury *WAS* Queen. There's just no substitute for him.

My favorite band changes a lot.... Right now it's Rainbow, which is the band Ritchie Blackmore formed after he left Deep Purple in 1974. Ritchie is so much better than the uber-easy "Smoke On The Water." Check out Rainbow's instrumentals Difficult To Cure, which is based on Beethoven's 9th or Anybody There, which is a really emotive electric guitar instrumental.

Sharing the spot with Rainbow is Deep Purple, Queen, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, KISS, Bruce Dickinson, and Alice Cooper.

My number one is My Chemical Romance. Seen them live a bunch of times and it never gets old.

I also love Paramore, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Brand New, Coheed & Cambria, Incubus, Jimmy Eat World, June, Muse, The Killers, Oasis, Rise Against, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Starting Line, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, and 30 Seconds to Mars (They're terrible live, but a good CD band)
