Orient Wolf
But who would be interested in taking over? Seems like every park company is in some kind of trouble right now or already just made a large acquisition. Honestly, I think Cedar Fair would be a good fit for Kentucky Kingdom. They are obviously not in a postion to buy and I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to go into another lease arrangement like Six Flags. A well written, short-term management contract, however, could be mutually benefical to the fair board and an operator (such as CF's agreement to run Gilroy Gardens). The fair board wants someone with experience to get in quickly and get the park up and running so they can have revenue for at least part of the season. Ride and waterpark operations is one of the few things CF excels at. They would be able to get all the rides running safely, quickly order food and merchandise, and set up a ticketing system, etc. The fair board would maintain ownership of the land and all major assets (i.e. rides) while CF would provide minor assets such as cash registers and manage staffing. For their expertise CF would be guaranteed a certain percentage of year end profits. This move would be investment minimal for both parties and offer the best chance for return. Yamez
I highly doubt Cedar Fair would even consider running another park right now. They're too mired down in the Apollo mess, and it feels like they're too desperate for funding to even think about any other commercial ventures at the moment. I think Cedar Fair is a safe bet to stay out of this mess.
CPmaverick
There is no way Cedar Fair would get into the whole Kentucky Kingdom thing with there current debt situation. However it is a good idea.
Orient Wolf
^^The Apollo mess is exactly why CF should seek a management contract for KK. The Apollo deal will likely fall through and Kinzel needs to show the unitholders (who are currently very displeased) that he is still competent and capable of bringing in new revenue (and pay down the debt). Think of what SF is doing with Dubailand and Nigeria. It's the same low investment, decent return strategy.
Jew
^Except in those cases, Six Flags isn't doing anything except collecting a check for licensing and consulting fees. Operating SFKK would still cost Cedar Fair millions in staffing/inventory/equipment/etc. Not a smart move by any means. Like I said, the call was just a nice way of saying "we're not touching anything else until all the legal stuff is settled." Neither the fair board or Six Flags are going to do anything until they can reach a settlement as to who exactly owns what. And as it has already been mentioned...no one is going to want to do business with the fair board after this mess unless they get some extremely favorable terms. DOCTOR DOOM!!!
I believe that IF a new operator comes in, SF will negotiate a deal to sell the 20 acres that they actually own and the rides on that 20 acres (T2, Blizzard River etc...) to the new operators. Which is why they won't touch anything till then!
Der Der Dongt
So did I get this right? SF gets to keep all the rides on their land + Chang and the Fair Board everything else even though some of the rides on the Fair Board's land were put in by SF? topher31381
tonights meeting was kinda sad no onw from the government or state fair board was there tonight. there was only about about 20 in attendence tonight. there was mention of the rumor that they want to make it a casino/ amusement park. which we where all against. tim childress led the event dont really know who he is just that he wants to get all of the former employees job back. though i am still concerned about his knowledge of everything because when i mention mark shapiros name he ask me who was he. one thing is that we are all gathering at the front gate on saturday the 11th at 11 and the 24th at 11 the reason we are doing it on the 24 is that is when the park was suppose to open. the whole idea of doing this is to show the state fair board and potental buyers that we want the park to open we are hoping to have at least a couple of thousand people to show up and that we havent lost confidence in the rides like childress said. if you guys got any questions just ask and i will share what i know. I'll will try to be their if my work schedule works out on either the 11th or the 24th of April! hey so you know i was just reminded that the 11th is a sunday and the 10th is a saturday but its saturday we also figured out that if a thousand people paid to park at six dollars the fair board would make six thousand dollars and then this would show them and the government how much money they could be loosing
jedimaster1227
http://www.wlky.com/news/23113251/detail.html Kentucky Kingdom was the site of a small demonstration this weekend. Protesters, including former employees and park supporters, came out to take issue with the park's closure. The Six Flags company decided to close the facility in February as it is in bankruptcy. Hundreds of seasonal jobs were lost when Kentucky Kingdom closed. "Kentucky's unemployment is 10 percent. I think the time to act is now. The further we want the more these rides set idle, the worst it's going to be for a new owner to come in. We need to act now," protester Tim Childers said. Unemployment in the Metro area is more than 12 percent. Last year, Six Flags posted a net loss of $194 million. The Kentucky Fair Board has been looking for a new company to operate the park. CMV
I was in town over the weekend for an adjacent function, and managed to snap a few pics. I didn't know about the demonstration until after the fact; I'd assumed that small crowd was people who wandered away from the Kentucky Flea Market at the Expo Center. Already not looking too hot. Leaves now, debris later. The weight drops no more. Road Runner Express hides behind the well-traveled Greezed Lightnin'.

PKIDelirium
The place is on Steel Plant Road, it might be there for refurbishment. It's nowhere near enough track to be the entire ride, so maybe some of it got damaged during disassembly. This appears to be the place: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Wilder,+KY+41076&sll=39.059716,-84.492373&sspn=0.01203,0.021157&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Wilder,+Campbell,+Kentucky&ll=39.064665,-84.491794&spn=0.012029,0.021157&t=h&z=
