Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

P. 401: Herschend Enterprises named majority partner and park operator

Recommended Posts

At the park now, you could see from Mile High Falls that both Track and structure has been completely removed, on Twisted Twins. Both sides Brake Runs plus all the course to the lift hills are gone, work has definitely started on Twisted Twins rebirth. As far as T3, there are no breaks in the station or the break run. The Train is half way in the station, it is tied out. Took a couple of pics with my phone.

I don't think there were fountains behind the front entrance. Is that tower mark still there?

There's a fountain. Not sure if the mark is there, it's hidden behind the fountain.

I know there's a fountain in FRONT of entrance, but they never replaced the ride with one, if you look at pictures you can see the fountain is in front of the entrance not behind where the ride was. But I did just realize one of their other uses for the fountain...

Does anyone know if you can still get to that area behind the entrance like in the video? If it's off limits than it doesn't matter, but it would be cool to check it out if it's not.

Are you going to recreate the Friends intro?

So something very interesting was happening to me guys. I was looking through the comments of a youtube video and someone was talking about how Alan schilke said himself on WC media day that 3 RMC projects were scheduled for 2016. One for a SF park, one in Tennessee (Dollywood), and one in Kentucky !!! I asked him where he got his info and he directed me to a SFNE fan forum. This person had been to WC media day and had got to talk to Alan for about 30 minutes. Get hyped guys, I think this seals the deal on RMC Twisted Twins.http://sfneonline.org/forums/index.php?threads/rocky-mountain-construction-discussion.1682/page-10

Actually I was talking about them also being able to use it to hide the Hellevator site, but now... I found one of MY uses for the fountain.

UNDERCOVER UNICORN PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS: FRIENDS, wait for it.... AT KENTUCKY KINGDOM (Am I crossing TV series?)

How cool would that be?

The fountain and hellevator were there at the same time. The fountain kind of wrapped around it as you come in the park. I think the flutterfly is there now.

This RMC hype is reaching critical mass. Lots many rumors from so many directions; I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen at this point. They have one ride designed by ride centerline and one retracked by RMC, so it would make sense that these guys are involved here. It would be so huge for KK. No park near KK is likely to get one anytime soon (or anything like it for that matter), so It will really give them something to advertise.

I'd be a little worried if I were Holiday World. KI, will always be in another league, but KK and HW are competing for a lot of the same people now.

Why, exactly? HW is still in a different league than KK. An RMC will be an awesome addition to KK, but HW has nothing to worry about. People aren't going to ditch their plans to go to HW to go to KK, if anything they'll just make plans to stop by KK as well.

I agree, Thunderbird is what now keeps Holiday World from worrying. Plus Holiday World still has a much better atmosphere than KK (Not that theirs is bad) and much better themeing, and in that case they will always be a league ahead.

Indeed. Holiday World is a few leagues ahead of Kentucky Kingdom in terms of overall park experience (and size, even when you're not including the available expansion spaces). They'll be comfortably ahead for a while.

The more I hear about it, the more I'm starting to believe this could very well be them. Knowing they already have relations with them and could get them an I-box coaster could definitely help set the park as a very unique destination worth stopping by compared to the others parks in the region. Hopefully what Ed had told me stays true that we hear an official announcement about it sometime next month.

Also, bonus points to the park for finally getting construction work started this early on a major attraction.

People visiting will just visit both parks yeah, but I would say HW is losing out on a good bit of potential season pass holders with KK back online. I know I personally used to have a season pass to holiday world, but now have one to KK just because it's cheaper and closer to me. I'd say I'm not the only person in lousivlle that's done the same. I'd doubt a huge portion of HWs season passes came from lousivlle; but they had really pushed into the market since KK closed. Now they'll have some stiff competition in a market that just a few years ago seemed like low hanging fruit.

Not trying to say that either park is going to be hurting for attendance, but KK has to be well on HWs radar at this point.

The issue with KK trying to make a run at HW is location. With KK unable to make really tall coasters, you lose an easier way of attracting customers. People like to impress their friends by saying how tall of a coaster they rode at [insert park here], and KK doesn't offer that possibility like The Voyage does. Also, the fact that KK is surrounded by concrete doesn't help the feeling of being at a park. KK feels like you are at a public pool in the city that has some really cool slides, whereas HW feels like you are in a park.

Where KK is located really hurts what they are able to do and the overall "feel" of the park. KK needs to install unique coasters and flats so that it distinguishes them from the surrounding parks. It can be done, but with that strategy it will take a good deal of time to build the quality of the park.

The only thing wrong with KK's location is that there is a road running though the middle of the park, other than that it's a great location. Right off of a major highway, very accessible from nearby major cities, yeah they have some height restrictions with the airport nearby but Lightning Run doesn't seem to suffer from a lack of height. Seems like if Twisted Twins is getting the RMC treatment and it's half as good as everything else they have done then KK will have one of the better two coaster combos of any park in America.

While Lightning Run doesn't suffer at all from height restrictions and is an incredible ride, most people in Louisville would not know what I was talking about if I said something about Lightning Run. Yet many would know Diamondback or The Voyage just because of their heights. I really wish KK would have stuck with their plan to run TT and Thunder Run together and create the world's longest roller coaster. It would definitely give guests something to brag about after visiting while staying below the height limit. Also, while it is by the Watterson and 65, it makes the park seem much more urban than KI and HW. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing, I'm not entirely sure.
