Quick question for all the Locals:

Im heading on a trip this July with 3 friends and we are planning on stopping by the park on July 25, in the evening. I usually go through one of my discount companies, but none of them have anything for the park. Does anyone know of a discount voucher (say at a local chain store) or if there is a late entry discount to the park? We are staying at a hotel near by (Days Inn Lousville) and are coming in from Dollywood and leaving for Holiday world the next day.

Thanks!

I'm not aware of any local resellers that have discounted tickets. Right now, I don't think KK is in the position to be able to offer many big discounts on ticket prices. They do not offer a late entry discount either as they are never open past 9pm.

In regards to the many comments about ticket prices and season pass prices, KK is going to survive off locals for the next few years. They aren't going to draw enough people from out of town with their smaller ride selection than most regional parks. The pricing is meant to encourage people to purchase season passes and visit multiple times a year. Right now, I would assess the value of the park at about $25 a day at most unless you can dedicate most of your time to the water park.

The pricing really hurts those guests that want to visit from out of town, but it is what it is. I would recommend more people travel to ride Lightning Run because it really is that great of a ride, but as of now, it's hard to sell people on a $30-$40 ticket for a park that they can visit for 3-4 hours and ride much of what they want and leave.

Finally, if you are from out of town and you really want to ride Lightning Run as a part of your "Coaster Tour" (which you should) I would recommend using Louisville as a "Rest Day." Go to the park, ride the coasters in the morning and spend the rest of the day at the water park relaxing, if you can. It's the only way, I see, to justify the cost of a daily ticket.

how bad were June Saturdays last season?

They were a bit heavy, but manageable. It's hard to predict how the crowd will disperse with all of the new rides opening up across the park, but you aren't going to see anything that's worse than Kings Island. Just anticipate waiting 30-60 minutes for the coasters. If you can get there at opening, you should be able to get a ride in on most of the coasters without problem.

The problem KK has with its coasters is that they aren't capacity monsters like Chang. Lightning Run has a slow load procedure and Thunder Run only runs one train due to no brake run. T2 was decent with crowds but still had a slow moving so I would expect T3 to be the same.

I saw it I forgot to respond. thank you! A friend ended up buying both of us season passes. That June 6th we will have 3 maybe 4 hours in the park before heading to KD we will make another trip during the summer maybe two.

Expect Kentucky Kingdom to be on WDRB News today. They said on tonight's show they'll be talking to Ed Hart tomorrow.

Looks like they're gearing up to open. Here is their press release:

They also have updated the park map on their website. All the kingdom7 attractions are accounted for, plus a few new things. Notably, The rio grande train has been moved to King Louie's Playground, leaving Bluebeard's Bounty very alone. I bet they add a new ride over there and connect that area to the cyclos area next season. They also added a much needed handicap access to the other half of the park, near Enterprise. Most importantly, Twisted Sisters has COMING IN 2016 across it! They've been pretty silent on its future, so its good to see that a refurbishment is still on the agenda and it's not getting the axe.

So the map confirms that Speedway is gone and Rio Grande got moved to its spot. I really hate to see that ride go but I also know that it was very old.

While it's sad that Speedway is gone, I'm glad that they moved Rio Grande, the map listed it as in King Louie's Playland even though it was in a more thrilling section of the park so it never had a line because little kids rarely went back there.

But why did they move it after 1 year rather than doing it last year when re-doing the park?

Skycatcher is in a weird spot to me, looking at the map, even though its next to the picnic shelters its kind of sitting in the water park section away from the amusement park side for the most part.

The park's taller items are on the left side of the park due to FAA restrictions. Personally I would move the picnic shelters to the right side of the park and put another tall flat where they are now. Reopening Twisted Twins next year may be a good excuse to do that as the area around it is somewhat bare.

Finally had a free weekend to spend in Louisville and couldn't pass-up a chance to see the park. I shot these photos earlier today.

Skycatcher sitting idle some short distance off of the ground. It might not be 400+ feet, but it's still fairly tall if you ask me.

I hope Cyclos is a fast-built ride if they're gonna get it ready by opening.

Oh, hello there!

Yes, I witnessed LR testing twice today!

Warming up for next weekend's opening (and a private event this weekend).

A last look at Skycatcher. The seats on these are the same as the ones on Vertigo at the KY State Fair.

I sure hope they can get Cyclos at least built by opening day. I don't mind them opening it later in the summer to get people to come back if that is what they are doing, but I don't want them to have to build it when the park is open because, from the location, it seems that they would have to close Lightning Run to build it. It makes me think the ride was delayed by the manufacturer or something like that because the park is usually pretty quick at getting rides up as soon as they arrive. Skycatcher and Up, Up and Away seemed to be put up just days after they arrived at the park.
