pianojohn
Found some press kits in great shape and thought I'd scan them for you viewing pleasure! Note: the Geauga Lake photos were actually printed on paper and not photo paper, hence the faded quality. Oooo....Tron sounds so cool! Check out those prices!! And Disney World circa 1981 Cedar Point pre: Raptor on the Main Midway Big Dipper Double Loop Geauga Lake's Corkscrew And in operation The Bat at Kings Island And the splahsdown that never was Big Bad Wolf Drachen Fire at Busch Gardens Williamsburg And for White Water Landing circa 1982 The original concept for Disaster Transport. 1990
Top Thrill Dragster
Very cool! I never knew Big Bad Wolf was suppose to have a splash down.
asuburbanman
Wow I can't believe those Magic Kingdom prices. Two days for less than $30. Amazing. Very cool pictures.
Emiroo
Fantastic stuff John! I'm always amazed by those hand-drawn pictures. I can barely write legibly, so I find hand drawn artwork very impressive.
CPmaverick
Those are sweet. I never knew that Calypso at Cedar Point had roofs on the cars or was even on the main midway.
ratdogg68
Love Retro report's like these. Makes me think of my days working at Opryland. Great Stuff
YoshiFan
Interesting Disney didn't allow you to bring in food to the park back then and now they are one of the few parks that allows food to be brought in.
MonkeyPants
Awesomeness! I love the throngs of people headed to Disaster Transport. The next drawing should have been of throngs of people running screaming from Disaster Transport! And the banking on that Drachen Fire sketch looks pretty accurate! Where do you get this cool old items?
pianojohn
Found some more cool items to share. I used to collect napkins from theme parks. Here are a few from Cedar Point circa 1980's but one from 1976! I also put up some pics of Avalanche Run from 1985, the first year it opened. Check out the line!! EnglndPatriots6
So They built the ride then the building around Disaster Transport?

CorkscrewFoley
Ah yes, nostalgia, i love it. Oddly enough, I don't remember any airtime hill at the base of White Water Landing. I do miss that ride... Still, one question remains, why the hell did Cedar Point build a bobsled coaster next to the beach? I know Blackpool's Mack Bobsled is themed similarly, but it's not right next to the water. cycamps
Very cool! I'm especially fond of the CP ones.

It also sucks, Cedar Point's that is. It would be so much better if the theme was different
Philrad71
Those are sweet. I never knew that Calypso at Cedar Point had roofs on the cars or was even on the main midway. I was thinking that they had two of them at one time in the park - Calypso & Tiki Twirl. Same ride, but Tiki Twirl had hula grass on the roof tops! I think it was where the Matterhorn is now. I certainly remember Avalanche Run the year that it opened as well as the year they enclosed it...I was equally unimpressed both times. And I was also thinking that I remember the little air time bump at the bottom of WWL, unless I am thinking of another flume ride? Great report, by the way - thanks for sharing, John! I love the nostalgic trip reports and certainly wish I would have taken more pictures from my eighties visits to CP.
BuschSchoe
I think its ironic that there is a sketch of The Big Bad Wolf having a "splashdown" and now there is a coaster, Griffon, that has an actual splashdown in the same park. Great stuff.
pkdcoaster
The BBW splashdown was actually a bunch of water Jets made to look like it touched the water. Similar to what Manta has. I will try to find an old pic of it. The equipment is still in the water I think. JEFF
CorkscrewFoley
if you watch any BBW POV, you can see where the equipment is in the water...Unless I'm mistaken.
