Photo TR: Freestyle Music Park

Having missed out on the Hard Rock Park experience last year, I rolled down to Myrtle Beach with some friends at the first opportunity this year. Which happened to be a Saturday-- at the start of summer-- during beach week-- with nice weather. Surely there would be a little bit of a crowd...

IMG_8815s.jpg.c6a3fa6023899ff13fe3e3df0fa84d75.jpg

until next time...?

IMG_8811s.jpg.43b09a704737f6fc1e9bee27c0dfd9fa.jpg

IMG_8810s.jpg.b9a339c5a9f200a35d049a73c089e24c.jpg

Couple more time machine shots. I like lens flare by the way

IMG_8789s.jpg.914d097eede4d82738351a5915266740.jpg

another sign shot was we were leaving

IMG_8664s.jpg.af7e3f55f27526e9e05f9b8e885adfe3.jpg

obligatory air guitar shot... your doing it wrong!

IMG_8721s.jpg.a337fe050f4ee7070a8c04c93a212934.jpg

it was a little more fun to add some water effects to the prop

IMG_8720s.jpg.130660c39c41f38ea0fdf2cf9673aa02.jpg

chillin

IMG_8709s.jpg.02555f0e9a498c072f7e09a5cdb4a8ea.jpg

This ended up being a real workout

IMG_8705s.jpg.253a7141ecf31d2a4952358b6830bbb1.jpg

Also discovered was the random bungee-cord bean-bag-and-velcro contraption

IMG_8787s.jpg.35869f2924dfd755ede8321a0b6ef4bb.jpg

seriously, this was really cool. I might build one in my back yard as an addition to the shed

IMG_8783s.jpg.139d26da5eb0728dd5fe0c5261dd7c85.jpg

upon this discovery, we immediately assembled small armed forces and went straight into combat for about an hour and a half

IMG_8781s.jpg.f892c99eb4cb08b506be72745d5053fb.jpg

in this innocent looking building was the highlight of the trip

IMG_8779s.jpg.3a27f796c818e5ba839c0c3f94d774b5.jpg

Do not ask me any questions about this ride

IMG_8648s.jpg.4fefb543297cfc15dacda14883117bbe.jpg

Didn't feel the need to sit in the sun, but if I did this area would have been inviting

IMG_8794s.jpg.46bbda06704f0761dfe12c5bc1733eff.jpg

Fog is always fun

IMG_8659s.jpg.c676ae8a0eafbf9356c08d75f5009351.jpg

After riding all the coasters a few times we took another lap or two around the park to check out the scenery

IMG_8640s.jpg.9e14b1c070797708c3ecabb50d3456f8.jpg

This water harp was a lot bigger than I imagined from seeing other pictures.

IMG_8632s.jpg.815e0982fbec13dfc4b5b1c6f2a5024c.jpg

This was a really cool touch on the station of the time machine

IMG_8670s.jpg.5588ee74fe729e9aaf4144a087abcdf8.jpg

IMG_8610s.jpg.616016e30fa79de32f522ceefc9deb7c.jpg

Landscaping here, and throughout the park was also very well done

IMG_8637s.jpg.dd7d392cbc171dc9da482286b9f21180.jpg

timing is everything

IMG_8608s.jpg.8ed1d35c6baefe5202c07624ecda4d88.jpg

Also thought the logo was really cool, but hard to see on the front of the train

IMG_8667s.jpg.661cef9ddbf3eb567be951e3ae3aa9f3.jpg

As you will probably see I spent more time taking photos than actually riding this one

IMG_8569s.jpg.3b93bf8abf1d5d733ece26d891511a55.jpg

Which was Ok because it's a very photogenic ride and makes for some good pics

IMG_8551es.jpg.9d8e71b99968020e39b512da12cb3097.jpg

Time Machine seemed to have some rather serious vibration issues.

IMG_8682s.jpg.fde99813bb8f0271e754472a8c64ce77.jpg

Heading across the pond for the main attraction

IMG_8729s.jpg.69f52b7a288c28a67dc40e2089230009.jpg

Admittedly, it would be 10 times better with some theming... but the music selection they have for this ride now is outstanding (I think there are 3 tracks). Although I didn't ride it as Life in the Fast Lane, the music they have on it now makes a lot more sense.

IMG_8726s.jpg.a3ba8b43ccfb964dc43888ae88f6408c.jpg

Cool theming. I thought Iron Horse was a great compact coaster

IMG_8745s.jpg.1fbab0ce4b41dd9853119e2564d21971.jpg

heading over to Iron Horse we spotted some other park guests.

IMG_8733s.jpg.54d54a4aecb66e191affd74583a73c1b.jpg

hang ten is about as average as you can get for a family coaster. Score one for the credit count

DSC03628s.jpg.48f0e3856c9976b79c368ca9f1e364d6.jpg

I thought the park did a really great job of updating the signage considering they had a short amount of time to transition from HRP branding. Nothing looked rushed or out of place

IMG_8689s.jpg.5366faf8182f23ae29078ab4a28eac26.jpg

IMG_8687s.jpg.3fab34328fcf78132e322aadcc68c10e.jpg

good thing we rode early in the day to avoid the crowds.

IMG_8573s.jpg.8502544db8a39b25f3858db3bf601664.jpg

the first drop was also decent

IMG_8572s.jpg.73612136c517adc709d8cec91e757703.jpg

just weird. It felt really strange on the wheel and was probably the most exciting part of the ride

IMG_8589s.jpg.10ad1b92a31e0bf17b127ced9763c572.jpg

Next up was the round-a-boot

IMG_8775s.jpg.75f28392fd5c4ee6e4bebd11c0f2d24a.jpg

and another cool area for kids to burn off energy

IMG_8719s.jpg.0d4b8e61b4e16b1c3f3c8421cc1bf1f5.jpg

I thought this was a really cool area for kids to burn off some energy

IMG_8751s.jpg.3e0e8e5b16507f6aa2bc564f7cd1bcbc.jpg

again, more details. This was in the ground on the exit ramp for soakd

IMG_8761s.jpg.e495f3e803fdb0767f332f3afc7186c7.jpg

The exit ramp ended up being the most difficult part of the ride to get through dry

IMG_8754s.jpg.2a146ea98bc3cc5829efc974a1db3093.jpg

but mostly the ride was relaxing

IMG_8743s.jpg.e893d0a6bd550b34a581c0c756fb338b.jpg

Although we didn't get officially "soakd" it did have some water elements which was OK because it was rather humid

IMG_8723s.jpg.94dd6458d5b0aa48786bfe46255e5d3f.jpg

First up, we decided to brave the elements and take on the water coaster.

IMG_8784s.jpg.db52b46b5c04e504686bbaadf192ca96.jpg

IMG_8685s.jpg.c59b898b8f7337d52b732a90359f17c5.jpg

and very nice theming

IMG_8792s.jpg.411b73673d678f4f7fee2aaa07256466.jpg

see... details

IMG_8808s.jpg.d5d6774c9c256c55fe88c6d8a6d07b56.jpg

and the details were phenomenal

IMG_8805s.jpg.b6cead14808b967bad0cdbaaa1103442.jpg

The atmosphere at the park is pretty impressive

IMG_8817s.jpg.e9dfbb4969a410c782a9f9d23030670e.jpg

Before entering the park we had to adjust the admission price so that it made more sense. Sadly, our efforts were not rewarded with a discount

IMG_8816s.jpg.94e844c2fb850322008949394092adf1.jpg

but I really don't want to focus on that too much because we all had an awesome time

DSC03618s.jpg.1c7788b52bf9885060da444dd10de592.jpg

OK so attendance is an obvious issue

I actually want to get down to this place now. Despite its bad reputation, it looks like theres a good variety of rides and attractions, plus the theming and landscaping is pretty good....

Nice PTR! I love all the details, but I still don't "get" the Myrtle's Beach area...

So does the park get busier at night?

Great pics dude!

Here are some of mine from the trip.

I really liked the park a lot. it was just depressing being there on a summer Saturday with great weather and it was a ghost town. I thought Natatonic's TR's deserted look was just cause it was a weekday but that is not the case. We all had a great time even though the coasters were not mind blowing. but they were all fun and pretty unique.

I Loved the music selection throughout the park and all the great tunes blasting on the Coasters was really cool and well done. I was really impressed with the Time Machine's audio and Station theming (album covers).

Nothing beats rocking out to Ice Ice baby on a B&M!

Good trip report and a lot of great pictures. Free Style Music Park looks like a nice park, but it looks like the new owner's efforts aren't working. Judging from your photos, and the other reports on the park, I'm pretty sure it won't be around in 2010.

Has anyone else noticed that the Time Machine is getting more

and more :shakey: ? The ride went down as you left? I hope its

open tomorrow I am going down and talked some co workers

into going, try to keep this place alive! hah

I wonder what's wrong with this place? It looks like such a nice little park with a very handsome coaster!

Is it a marketing problem (the GP actually aren't aware that the park has reopened?) or are there too many other parks near?

Never mind, I found the answer in the other thread. If people who live an hour away have no idea that the park has reopened, that explains everything.

Why are kids tickets more than Adult tickets? Kids- $29 Adults- $19 WTF?

The price sign is movable, so they messed around with it.

And as far as a marketing problem, I'm not totally sure. I mean, I live in Charlotte, and we get absolutely LOADED with the Time Machine FSMP commercials that everybody saw on YouTube. As far as farther up north, I doubt they're advertising, just as HRP management didn't.

What don't you get about it? It's the most visited beach on the East coast.

^Exactly.. People go to Myrtle BEACH to sit in the sand not spend the day in an amusement park with NO WATER ATTRACTIONS! Good thinking there guys!

The admission price is still WAAAY too high for what the park is offering. I think the price point is around $20-$25 IMO.

I don't totally understand that area either. To answer your question we left around 730 and didn't see anyone heading for the entrance so I would say no
