SFGAm is so far north, it's actually slightly closer to the Brewers stadium than to Wrigley

Chicagoland is a shithole, dude.

We have some of the wealthiest towns in the entire country in the area. Not sure what parts of the area you have been. The worst parts of the area are places you would have no reason to be, honestly. Like any major metropolitan area in the U.S., it has its good and bad parts.

Careful around these parts. Saying wealth and socioeconomic well being has any positive effect on society may get you labeled as an entitled bigot. The very idea is probably classified as hate speech.

Regardless, I retract nothing about my former statement.

Went to the park for Pride night on Saturday, the new front entrance is coming along nicely.  Lots of new things that are clearly NOT Six flags... concrete squares instead of blacktop, etc., and all the rides were running better than last year.  Seems everyone's favorite of the night was Eagle (red), running like a bat outta hell.  MaxxForce is back to 2 trains again; easily the most comfortable *new design* trains I've ridden in a couple decades; that ride is my favorite launcher (besides the old Schwarzkopf shuttles).

Six Flags has announced a brand-new B&M Dive Coaster will be added to Six Flags Great America in 2025!

Wrath of Rakshasa, from roller coaster design experts at Bolliger & Mabillard, will be unleashed in 2025, shattering multiple world records. Riders will test their limits on the ride’s beyond-vertical, 171-foot drop, the steepest of any dive coaster in the world. But the initial 96-degree drop is just the beginning as Wrath of Rakshasa reaches speeds up to 67 mph, shattering a second world record with five total inversions, the most of any dive coaster in the world.

This looks to be great! I've been on Sheikra at BGT as well as Dr. Diabolical at SFFT and they were both very enjoyable rides, Wrath Of Rakshasa looks to be even better! Makes me excited for SFOT's new Dive Coaster coming in 2026!

Planning my first ever trip out here.

I try to avoid crowds much as possible, usually be doing weekdays not in "peak" times.

What is a general idea of how crowded this place would be on a weekday in early June? In general what are crowds like at different times of the season? I am pretty flexible no real concrete time I have to go.

If the weather is nice?  You're screwed unless you pay for Fast Lane.  If the weather is gray or damp?  You're all set.

Operations are, frankly, bad.  A station wait for American Eagle still took 15 minutes when I visited this past October.  I straight-up skipped Goliath WITH a Fast Lane reservation because operations were so horrible.  The Fast Lane line was down the stairs and didn't move at all for over ten minutes.  Maxx Force?  Prepare to wait for a long time while you keep watching them dispatch one train every five minutes with six empty seats as you slowly fill with rage.

Raging Bull is, in my experience, the only ride in the park that pumps people through consistently.  I stood in line through most of the switchbacks and it only took 20-30 minutes to get a backseat ride.  Viper wasn't too bad, either, but the ride itself is still Viper, so do with that information what you will.

Is this regardless of time of year? I take it that's the case given what you said in October.
Major oof....but good to know. Clearly I'll have to invest in Fast Lane regardless and prepare to hate my life lol

I'm no expert for Great America, only saying what I've witnessed the past two years.  2023 I was able to bang out a good chunk of rides but still missed Maxx Force, Viper, American Eagle, Demon, Batman, Flash, Superman, Dark Knight, etc.  I skipped most of those, though, because they were carrying a 45+ minute wait all day and they're rides I've done plenty of times at other Six Flags parks, so no big deal.  2024 was more or less the same, but I prioritized Maxx Force, Viper, and American Eagle as they're unique to the park and I hadn't ridden them.

I'm 2.5-3 hours south of the park.  Even with a season pass both years I only went once each year.  For context, I went to Great Adventure multiple times both years (we visit family in Jersey 3-5 times annually) and was able to make those shorter, half-day or less visits and I was still able to bang out nearly the entire park each time, including MULTIPLE laps on star attractions like Toro, Jersey Devil, and Ka.  Great America I've spent the entire day at the park and hardly made a dent both times.

Great America has potential and has a great lineup of coasters and flats, but operations have soured me to the park.  I'd much rather drive the 2-ish hours to Six Flags St Louis and go buckwild there all day like I did last year. Mr. Freeze and The Boss are more than worth the trip alone and, hot take, are better rides than 90% of what Great America offers.  Yeah, I said it.  Goliath and, to a lesser extent, Maxx Force, are the only truly standout attractions at Great America.  The other rides are plenty fun but kinda boilerplate since they have so many clones.

There are definitely two different flavors between STL and GA. I get the appeal for both if you're desirous of a Six Flags experience.

I still refer to Six Flags parks as such, since the atmospheres haven't changed much, yet. It's going to take a while for both prior parks chains to transform into whatever the hell will be the final product.

Quite disappointing, but far from surprising. I do appreciate the info, will factor into if I want to bother going out here "just to do" or if its not worth it.

Something to keep in mind are school trips. I'm not sure when they they slow down but the first few months of the season there always seem to be plenty of buses which will make the day more hectic.

Note: Majority of the crowd at opening go to Maxx Force, Raging Bull, or Sky Striker.  With Wrath opening this year, I would get over there ASAP.

I take one of two routes depending on what I want to ride or prioritize.

  1. Arrive at opening and go left - Superman, Dark Knight, Joker, V2, Batman, Goliath can be done in 1.5 hours or less depending how quick you get to the next ride.
    1. American Eagle opens around 11:30am-12pm.
    2. Sky Striker - Queue fills up relatively quick so make sure to get in line within the first few hours of the day.
    3. X-Flight and Raging Bull I find have the quickest lines.
    4. Maxx Force had good periods where they were sending trains out minutes apart (Hope to see this in 2025).
  2. If you don't want to ride the cloned rides and want to ride the others, get to Maxx Force first with the hopes it opens with the park.
    1. Whizzer, Viper, Raging Bull, Demon and X-Flight.
      1. Viper's line can get long and it is hard to determine how long the line can be from ground level. I hop on Raging Bull to see how long the line is.
        1. Ride earlier in the day.
    2. Head to Sky Striker, American Eagle and Goliath and then proceed with remaining rides.
      1. Goliath operations are very hit or miss.  If there is one train I would skip all together.

If you spend the entire day you should not have an issue getting on everything you want!
