Six Flags Great America (SFGAm) Discussion Thread

p. 513 - Wrath of Rakshasa dive coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

My partner and I have two small children 5 and 3. They are great for taking to Disney World, but not so much going to a coaster park. I have done ride switch at Cedar Point before, it isn't that bad if you have to do it, but it is a pain. I have June 19th and 20th in which we can go to a theme park without children. I was planning to go to SFGA to check out Goliath. Who could beat riding 2 new coasters in one year? We already went to Banshee opening day and got front row. However, I don't know how this Goliath opening is going to roll and it is a week out now. If I need to get a season pass for a preview day I'd totally buy it as they don't charge much at all for season passes. However, if we are not going to even get a chance to ride Goliath, I'd rather re-plan for Cedar Point as when I went to Cedar Point last year on the first Tuesday it was open Gatekeeper was closed due to high winds. I still need to get on it. My current plan for CP was to try to go in the fall. Perhaps I should switch with Great America and do that in the fall? My rule for going to a theme park at this point is the park needs to have something I haven't been on yet. I don't get much time, so I have to be picky!

What do you guys think? Should I hold on a few more days?

Hello Kristen,

I would love to say for sure that Goliath will be open by then, but the park hasn't officially said anything as of late except "it will be opening very soon". Media day is on track for next Wednesday so I would assume the ride will open as soon as next Thursday (19th) or Friday (20th). The park will hopefully announce an official opening date sometime in the next couple days. The ride is testing every day now and human riders are already riding it. It's just about ready for the public to ride so I don't see why it wouldn't open next Thursday or Friday. Also, the season pass preview looks like a no go since their top priority is to just open the ride to everyone as soon as possible because of all the delays so I wouldn't worry about getting a pass unless you plan on visiting another Six Flags park again later this year. Just keeping checking here for more updates.

Yeah, I've been checking Six Flags Great America's social sites religiously and along with TPR over the past few days hoping to hear from someone who knew an opening date for Goliath. I will be at the park regardless if the coaster is open or not on Friday June 20th. I live ten hours away so I don't have the luxury of coming back day after day hoping it opens. I truly hoping it opens Thursday so all the diehards get it out of their system so Friday won't be as bad. I know it'll still be a long line but I just don't know if I want to wait in a 5 - 6 hour line. Platinum pass is an option but it's $110 a person and it's the only pass that will work on Goliath. I imagine Six Flags is probably going to wait until the commercial shoot this Saturday to see how guests do on the coaster before they announce an opening date....that's my guess. Goliath will be my 4th new credit this year...Firechaser Express, Banshee and Lightning Run were my other three. It's been a great year for new coasters.

Also going to Hersheypark this weekend so I should probably count the Cocoa Cruiser too...It's new even though it's a kiddie coaster. So that'll be five. But Goliath will be my highlight of the year because it'll be my first RMC I've ever rode.

Wow, everyone who has seen footage of the first test run or the POV needs to check out how fast it goes now with the lift at full speed and a few riders on board!

Sounded like they were having fun! What a surprise

I don't care how long the line is I'd wait. I waited for Banshee 3 hours opening day. Two opening days would be crazy. My back up plan at this point is to try to go to Holiday World and do the three coasters, leave and get to Kentucky Kingdom ride the two coasters then go to Kings Island again the next day. Or to go to Kennywood at night and then Cedar Point the next day.

That sounds like a fun plan too.

The new test run video looks great! The faster speed can really be seen by the final pull up to the brakes. Before, it was slowly cruising up, but now it looks like it could create some airtime! That is one way to close off a coaster!

Yes! It looks certain now that it'll deliver airtime with a full train. Makes sense, considering how much shorter the hill is than the zero g stall! Another thing to celebrate, what is arguably the weakest part of the ride, or at least the most confusing in terms of what it will deliver, is the last two overbanks before that airtime-brake run. But I am optimistic now that it'll be a cool series of elements, because in the video, you can hear the riders hollering/screaming just as loud as during any other part of the ride!

Those overbanks will most likely be similar to Outlaw Run's "wave turns" There will probably be sideways airtime (an interesting an cool feeling)! The difference will be that they are closer together, forming a large banked turn, instead of two hills found on Outlaw Run. Goliath should definitely provide non-stop action, and a little bit of everything - banked turns, airtime, hangtime, whipping sensation, inversions, the list just goes on!

That RMC batch of photos is amazing. I know there's been a little debate as to whether this really looks much more intimidating than other coasters, but I'm squarely in the "it looks intimidating" camp.

The overbanks are what do it for me. So much sidways action!

I've been wondering about the last turnaround, the 'overbanked twist and shout.' I'm wondering if this is to become the 'official' term for that maneuver for it or if that's just marketing crap.

If it isn't the "official name," it should be.
