Six Flags Great America (SFGAm) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The adult may get a little jail time. At worst, some of the juveniles may get a few days in a detention center where they go to class during the day, do a few chores, get fed better than they do at home, and have movie time at night. Lackluster probation will be handed out for all. If the prosecutors have anything going for them, it's the attention from the press. They may be able to hand out punishments that are a little more stiff than normal. This is just one more reason for me to visit parks less, but consistently spring for fast queue offerings.

Time to raise ticket prices...

You think they'll finally get it this time?

I'm remembering Six Flags' promotion a few years ago: "Our cheapest season passes in 20 years!" They have a knack for taking something that is bad and trying to market it as a good thing.

This is also a perfect example of why you should raise this kind of issue to a park employee, instead of trying to start something with the line jumpers. You really never know what kind of people you're dealing with. Just a couple years ago, a kid in the city I work in was killed after being involved in a mob action where a few people attacked him, with no weapons involved at all. Swallow some pride and know that it's not worth dealing with this kind of problem yourself.

^That is horrible! A few years ago at Kings Dominion... I DID contact security over a line jumping issue. It was right after it happened and security seemed more mad at me than anything. It was a horrible situation and dealt more with stuff that I probably shouldn't talk about. Bad stuff... very unfortunate. I almost asked for a secure escort to the car at the end of the day.

I was at the park Saturday and actually saw the police car and one of ambulances while on X-Flight. Obviously I wasn't sure at the time what had happened. Hopefully all of them are banned for life from entering the park. How does a park enforce a life time ban anyways?

From what I heard... if you are spotted at the park (by security, or an employee, for example) then they can press charges. Or something like that. Someone else can explain better I'm sure! I do know one person in particular (a former "park/coaster friend") who is banned from all Six Flags forever, apparently. He was a bad boy, repeatedly. Too much acting up and acting out, and the sad thing is he doesn't understand how to own his behavior.

They issue them a trespassing ticket for life which is a Class A misdemeanor in Illinois. That can lead to a $2500 fine and a year in jail if prosecuted fully. That is used as a deterrent but of course if the person really wants to get back in they probably can and just risk getting caught or doing something stupid again to get caught. With camera's everywhere starting to become part of everyday life and facial recognition software getting better all the time you imagine eventually parks will be able to really enforce bans like this. They may be doing it already. Anybody on these boards in involved with security at parks and can share some knowledge?

SF parks can't keep simple low tech effects including fire, misters, and lighting consistently working. I don't think facial recognition cameras with supporting software will be available at these parks for years to come. Until then, just be happy the shitters flush.

Sorry to break into the conversation about the recent incident but I'm wondering what kind of crowds I should expect to see for the rides on Friday October 13th and Saturday the 14th. Obviously I'm expecting some pretty heavy crowds on the Saturday but maybe the haunts will eat up a lot of people?

Also just fyi we'll be at the park from open to close on Friday and from open till about 5 or 6 on Saturday before driving home to Cleveland

The sad part is, there's so much truth to this.

Weather is your main variable. The warmer it is, the more packed it will be... Saturday will be a class above Friday for crowds... You're playing with fire on that Saturday. Plan on a Flash Pass.

It's never a sure thing, and weather plays a part as always... But, based on our several visits already to Fright Fest this year, the park attendance by my estimation nearly doubles after about 5-6PM, on Saturday/Sunday... During the day on Saturday/Sunday adult ride lines have not been crowded at all as it's a lot of families with young children, but as soon as night rolls around all the rides are packed like a high attendance mid summer day... Friday is a wild card, if the weather is good, expect attendance and lines to be high as it's only night time hours, if the weather is bad it generally kills the attendance...

If you want to visit the haunted houses, the lines are even longer or should I say slower, expect at least an hour wait for each haunted house or more as the night progresses...

From my observations, the haunted house lines are doing little to reduce the ride lines, it appears there is an excess haunted house crowd over and above the regular ride crowds....

I'm looking at visiting Six Flags Great America from the UK in early June next year (as a combined trip with Cedar Point). Is the park open every day of the week in June? And how are the crowds likely to be?

To get a better understanding of how crowded it will be, you will have to wait until they release the pass holder special days and any events for next year... But, yes it's open every day in June... Do note, that June is when most schools are getting out in the area, so the park will be busy regardless as many schools officially or unofficially plan end of year trips and/or the kids are out for summer and hitting the park just because they are out of school... If there is a bring a friend for free or whatever pass holder promotion or other special event going on that day it will be stupid crowded... I would aim to attend on a weekday or two consecutive days if possible if you want to maximize your ability to hit up rides...

Is anyone attending the Last Call Fall Festival? I'm curious of anyone has anymore details in reference to the event. Specifically if the park will have a select few rides open, or will it be nearly full operational?

Just wanted to give my two cents on Viper backwards at night... it was a complete blast and totally unexpextedly awesome! We almost skipped out on it after some rather terrible reviews on it, but once again don't let reviews skew your own opinion on stuff. We sat in the front-most of the train (ie: we touched the lift hill first out of everyone). The first drop hanging over the edge so slowly was great. There was one little part about 1/4 of the way in that had a VERY uncomfortable jarring motion but other than that it was the most fun we've had on a coaster in a really long time. My fiancee was giggling the entire ride and the sudden pops of unexpexted ejector air made her scream like I've never heard a coaster do to her, and certainly not anything else at Fright Fest (zing).

Other notable quick details: there was a $14 Snickers funnel cake sundae that normally is an upcharge but was free as a snack on the dining plan for the day and it was so disgustingly awesome.

Something you'd never hear at a Six Flags park: THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!! (a kid screaming on the brake run of X-Flight) -- though admittedly we had a really awesome day, probably because we skipped the haunts.

Goliath x 3 was amazing as usual, bull in the back at night was amazing, joker gave us some amazing rides like we've never gotten at other parks. X-Flight was fantastic and the near-misses are way better than Gatekeeper. Viper I already mentioned. Eagle was just ok to meh this time around but the queue is still as ridiculous as always and always provides a chuckle. Had some hiccups on Justice League, music going in and out, etc. Amanda put on glasses without one of the lenses luckily the op caught it at the last second lol she didn't even notice when we loaded the train....

The only downside of the day was getting through security due to the crowds. We got there an hour before open and it still took until 5:15 to get through. Glad we didn't get there later the line was insane. Granted the park got busy too but we started in the back and left when it got insane since we were off to another local haunt.

Little kid: I want to go ride the Dark Knight!

Dad: (audible groan and face of 'i really want to go home') ugghh i want to go in the dark bedroom

Glad we skipped on the haunts. I'm not sure what they were going for with the scare zones.

10/10 night. For sure. Some of the ops were absolutely KILLING IT on the platform. We didn't even stack on SUPERMAN! I liked the added zombie bodies in the sky tower. We definitely had a Six Flags day, and normally that's a bad thing (our West coast counterparts for example) but the Eastern side of the country parks always seem to impress us.

Glad you had a good time. The front fountain looks pretty neat. How would you compare the overall vibe and haunt theme throughout the park to Cedar Fair Parks?

The security situation is really a bummer. Even returning to King's Island at 6pm, after leaving the park to grab dinner, we still only waited a couple minutes at peak time to pass through security. Carrowinds last year was bustling at their Haunt re-opening, elbow to elbow throughout the entire entry plaza, and we were in within 15 minutes, maybe 20 max. When government run airport TSA has you beat, it's time to make some changes. My alternative solution is to have Beer Man serving tasty beverages right in line, with a couple porta-poties strategically placed. I'm talking baseball stadium style with the guy carrying around the insulated cooler yelling "Heyyy, Bud Liiiiight! Heyyy Bud Liiiiight!"

Damn those kids and their reefer.
