GoBears
First pieces of track were installed a couple hours ago.
Woodie Warrior
I don't know if it has been asked already, but what are those two flat wooden sculptures at the bottom of the picture? Are they the beginning of the next hill of the ride?

Are they the beginning of the next hill of the ride? Right now those platforms are being used to assemble the bents and then they stack them up. After they get so many done, they bring a crane over and start lifting them into place. The overbanked turn will soon occupy that space.
yay101
What pieces of track are those?
GoBears
What pieces of track are those? It's the bottom of the overbanked turn and the start of the floater hill.
Dr. M
^Not that I know or anything, but looking at the shape and relative size of that hill it looks to me more like an El Toro-style "ejector" hill than a "floater" hill. We'll know for sure next year, but that's my hope.
gerstlaueringvar
^Yes, I don't think RMC make floater hills.
Blue Turbo
^Especially with how short the ride is, RMC, wants to pack as much of a punch as possible
WildStangAlex
^Yes, I don't think RMC make floater hills. That pretty much sums up how I felt after riding Outlaw Run. Either you are firmly in your seat, or you are completely out of your seat. There is none of this "gentle floating air" on Outlaw Run. Given how much I love that ride, I hope this one lives up to their reputation.
GoBears
I'm only calling it a floater hill because that's what RMC and SFGAm are referring to it as. As far as what you'll actually experience, ejector air would be great.
thrillrider
I give props to the workers that are braving the elements to build this coaster.
traincrossin
Does anyone know if SFGAm might offer a behind the scenes tour of Goliath construction to coaster club members? I'd love to see it up close and take some pictures.
GoBears
According to the Sun Times who spoke with SFGAm PR Katy Enrique, Goliath is set to open Memorial Day weekend (which we already knew) which is May 24-26 but have an invite only unveiling on May 22nd. I'm assuming that's a media day. I wonder if they are still planning a season pass holder preview like Brandon Bruce told me. Source

Vonni
It looks like there has been some damage to the Goliath Webcam. The bottom half of the image is grey. Hope its fixed soon.
PVA62
^just checked the webcam and it seems to be fine! Wish I could find a way up to Chicago this year, the ride really looks amazing!
GoBears
The Goliath crew hasn't worked since last Sunday. Looks like the park gave them a nice Holiday break which is obviously the right thing to do. I'm excited to see the rest of the ride take shape over the next few months. Also, I hope everyone has a blessed 2014.
Vonni
I wonder when construction is supposed to resume?
djboss302
It snowed about 8 inches here. So it may be a while.
G$ Kurt
Gurnee is reporting a total of 18 inches of snow! And now with the temp dropping (High of -10 monday with wind chills near -45) construction might slow down a little bit.
GoBears
The important thing is to keep everyone safe so they are better off resuming after the snow clears up a bit and the temperature isn't way below zero.
IronWolfman
Too bad about the weather! Is the temperature a record for Gurnee? At least the windchill? Way too cold and snowy. Hope it clears up fast!
DanM64
^Probably not a record, close maybe, but still very cold!! We've had a lot of snow and cold already this winter, and they've gotten a lot more work done than I though they would up to this point. I'm really surprised they've built as much as they have! RandallDuell
Incredible that they're out there bright and early this morning. Lots of snow, and lots of cold (even colder temps coming soon, which is probably why they're getting out there now!)
Vonni
I'm glad to see some more progress. I don't know the forecast for the Chicago area, but here in Central Missouri, we are expecting a bad winter weather weekend. I'm so ready for this stupid Season to be over.
