I must say first and foremost, that was an awesome TR to IKEA. I am thankful that is the closest I ever have to come to one ever again. I refuse to ever enter another one in my lifetime.

With that said, I have to ask the question. Am I the only person that hates IKEA! Seriously! I get claustrophobic while walking through the showroom floor area and start to panic to find a way out. What if a fire breaks out? There are no exits in the whole place. The last time I was in one, I got so hypertensive that I had to lay on the floor and close my eyes. Alana went and got a couple of employees to escort me with my eyes closed to the nearest exit. It's like the showroom is this never ending path through tacky hell. (Incidentally, I was told by store security that they had to do that all the time. I don't know if that was a tactic to make me feel better, but at least I don't feel alone.) Furthermore, the furniture that Alana has bought there is ugly, cheap and falls apart. I still have beautiful furniture that my parents passed on to me that was built before I was born that looks 100 times better than the crap that Alana furnished her first apartment with. That very same furniture has moved with me back and forth across this country twice, as well as all over Los Angeles. Every time I have moved, I find another piece of Alana's IKEA furniture that is destroyed. I refuse to have Alana purchase anything from them anymore as I feel it is a waste of our money.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer here. I just don't get the fascination people have with IKEA. It boggles my mind. But, to each his own. I am obviously deranged and am completely in the minority. Meh! I'm used to it!

Well, for the record, everything in our living room (including the sofa you've slept on), KidTums' room, and our room is all IKEA. I've never had a problem with anything we've ever bought there and all their products seem to be practical and reasonably priced.

But like you said, to each their own!

Yay Ikea! Yes, their Swedish Meatballs are extremely good, we ended up loading on a bunch of 'em in their take-home food products along with the Lingonberries. Ikea feels much like a theme park to me...not sure why...They even have a coaster-like launcher thing down the middle of our local Ikea (first floor) that brings carts from the front and launches them across the tunnel to the back of the store for people to pick them up. I sure wouldn't mind taking the cart launch!

Guy, although I've never been to one (even though I used to live within 10 minutes of one), I'm not quite sure about the fascination either. To me, every time I see IKEA I think about the beginning of Fight Club, where Ed Norton is describing his apartment.

Perhaps that perception is off? Maybe I really am missing something? I guess I'll just have to break down and visit the Atlanta location one day to see for myself.

I am totally in the minority as well. I can't stand IKEA. However, I do have to say, it you haven't had any bad experiences and like the store, good for you. It just isn't my kind of feel for a store, and I haven't had any good things come from anything I have bought there, which is unfortunate. I really want to like the store, I just don't at all.

Honestly, most of your standard furniture stores also sell poorly-made crap. Only for a LOT more money. "Real" furniture costs more money than I care to think about.

When you look at what IKEA charges, it's not bad for what it is. If you're after Stickley, you're going to pay dearly for it.

We have two IKEAS in the suburbs here (I feel soooo jaded about that), but we only go to them if we really need something that we know will cost us a better price at IKEA.

And we have stuff in our home from IKEA, too. It's usually easy to put together, better priced than most furniture places, and some of the display areas are just breathtaking to wander through and enjoy.

But - for this one - I only picked up their measuring tape, one of the Swedish-written forms... and the all-important IKEA Pencil!

It was a fun visit, especially for those who had never been to an IKEA at all.

And while we're on the topic of IKEA, I found this excerpt from Bill Simmons' mailbag to be a funny coincidence.

Q: Have you ever tried out the carts at Ikea? All four wheels turn, and the floors have practically been buffed with a Zamboni. I feel like Tony freakin Hawk hitting 720s in the pillow aisle. This needs to be an X-Games event.

-- Brian, Eugene, Ore.

SG: You just broached on an idea that's going to be the linchpin of my campaign to take over ESPN6: The Self-Created Olympics. For instance, Brian just created his own event -- the Ikea 200-Meter Aisle Dash -- so we head down to an Ikea and he challenges the other customers to beat him in this event. My event (as I have mentioned many times) would be a little like the Long Ball Golf Challenge, only it would be throwing tennis balls down a narrow sidewalk with those plastic tennis ball throwers that they sell in Petco. Not to sound like Mayor Drago, but I cannot be defeated in this event and I WOULD break you. Everyone has one dumb fake sport that they excel in, right? It's a great idea and I can't wait for Shaq to steal it and make me an executive producer well after the fact.

^ Don't worry, even over here at the Canadian IKEAS, they list their items with the same hard-to-&%^##&!@~ read Swedish names from their original catalogue of..... stuff, lol.

Sometimes wierd to read - but awesome to buy and put together, most of the time, LOL.

And now for something a little bit different...

The TPR Grand Prix 2009!

In case you didn't know, PowerPark in Finland started off as a professional Go-Kart racing center. They have two tracks. One indoor and one outdoor. These tracks are highly rated in Europe and during our Scandi Tour TPR got the chance to rent them out and host the first ever TPR Grand Prix!

Of course we were hoping it would be more of a "Death Race" grand prix, but to our disappointment there were only a small number of casualties.

Anyway, read on...

Ladies and Gentlemen...we present to you the competitors of the TPR Grand Prix 2009. Please wish these men and women the best of luck as they compete TO THE DEATH to be crowned the champion.

That's right. Today's weapon of choice is this professional grade Go Kart!

I don't mind having to wear the funny clothes, but I don't want to be called "Jaffa!"

Not even this heavy duty racing gear can contain TPDave's massive junk from bursting through the seams! (Women take note! Big Mike certainly is!)

You guys know this is a race not Ocean's Eleven, right?

Our TPR Grand Prix participants are almost ready for round one.

You guys really to KILL?

And here they come rounding out the first lap! Number 8 is giving number 33 the "bird" in Finnish!

While it looks very slow here, these karts are actually going at speeds of over 100 MPH!!! Amazing.

"Look ma...one hand!"

Uh, oh, looks like we have our first casualty.

Don't worry number 2, nobody saw this...

Racecar POV!!! ps. if you happen to know what racecar spells backwads.... EMAIL DAN!!!! mrt0ad13@aol.com

Bodies are scattered all over the race track now.

"Two....I have killed two people so far..."

SIGNATURE MOVE!!!!

This is it...final lap!

Coming in the home stretch...lean in!!! LEAN IN!!!!

And there goes the checkered flag...

And we have our winners! Tom from the UK, Ivan from Switzerland, and Hot Fuzz Rich from the USA! Congrats guys!

And now how about some video of the TPR Grand Prix?

This event was soooooo much fun.

I almost didn't participate since it really didn't seem like my type of thing. Boy was I wrong. While I wasn't very good (I spun out too much) it was an absolute blast.

Thank you for organizing this!
