holidayworld08
Hello,my name is Brad Johnson and I live and work in Owensboro Kentucky. Owensboro is a large city in the tri-state area surrounded by many other cities. I work for the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer, our local news paper as a leisure writer. Recently, a small company named Coal Field Amusements has started construction on a new park called Great Kentucky Park. I picked up on this news and quickly contacted this parks PR department to set up a meeting. After talking to park executives and taking my notes, they let me take pictures. I decided to post them here with permission from the park. This is the entrance. And finally,The Porch Swing. Then you come to the Twister thrill ride. You get your drinks here. Then you see this currently unamed cafe. After you enter you see this amazing looking carousel.
netdvn
The good - The theming is excellent - Architecture is very good The bad - Building colors could use a bit more work Suggestions - Change the color of the buildings. I'm not really a fan of the monochromatic blue and green. Maybe have light blue/green walls and black roofs or something like that. Overall - The park has a ton of potential and from what I've seen so far, it looks amazing.
DBru
YES! Finally, there is something to do in Owensboro besides go to the mall... I'm excited to see more of my new home park.
holidayworld08
^^ I was kind of trying to go for a spring feel on the buildings around the main entrance. Later there will be sections that branch out to mines, music, etc. and the theming and colors will be different
nitrofan
I'm really not crazy about the building colors either. Great start though!
netdvn
If you're going for a spring-like feel for the entrance, I highly recommend using pastel for the walls and a dark red/black for the roofs. It also needs a lot more color. Add tons of different colored flowers and maybe some fountains to make the area look a lot better. Add a lot of colorful trees (like cherry blossoms) as well. holidayworld08
Hello everyone, quite a bit of time has passed since my last visit to the park (four months!),as I have been reporting on the downtown revitalization project. But I took a visit to the park today and I have a lot of stuff to show you. Oh, by the way I almost forgot to tell you that they found a name for the cafe, The SpringTree Cafe. They added a new ride, called Cardinal's Flight since my last visit! Cardinal at night. Crawfish Island at night. A shooting gallery was also recently built. The line starts after you exit the gift shop. Crawfish Island was abandoned due to an incident 50 years ago in the mine shaft. You can relive the expirience on The Crawfish Mine Disaster ride. Another ride has been added to the park, and its set in the sleepy mine town of Crawfish Island. Cardinal's Station
Thelegendarymatthew
Can't say much because I suck at RCT3, but looks good.
netdvn
The Good: - Excellent building design. - The new ride looks great The Bad: I'm assuming the new area is incomplete... - The new area still feels a bit plain. Suggestions: Add a bit more theming around the new area. Make it into an island (unless there's an actual Crawfish Island that isn't really an island at all) Make it look a more like a mining town. holidayworld08
I believe I have ran out of ideas for Kentucky themed rides/sections. So, what would you think if I just made it all like a generic theme and just make the midway keep the Kentucky theme. You could give me some suggestions if you don't mind, because I would rather keep the Kentucky theme. Fat-G
theme something around horses or horse racing. we are the horse capital of the world you know. also you could put in a couple of lakes and theme it to the land between the lakes. there is also mammoth cave that you can homage in. if you think about it there is a lot to put in for kentucky. ps(KFC isn't that bad ether)
holidayworld08
Its been a while since my last visit. But I came back for another tour and they have another amazing ride built that should start testing next month. Great Kentucky Park presents to you... F5,an Intamin Mega-Lite! Its named after the category of tornado. Tornados have devastated kentucky many times including the 2005 tornado that struck my hometown of Madisonville. 5% of the revenue F5 generates in its first year will go to the Red Cross.Anyways,on to the photos! Station F5 with Crawfish Mine disaster in The background.
Fat-G
cool coaster but the area looks REALLY bland, add lots of trees and hills. kentucky is not a flat state. but still looks good.
traincrossin
^I have to agree with you. While it's looking good. a few more trees, some hills, and more detailed theming and buildings can really help.
netdvn
The Good: - The Mega-Lite's layout is impressive. The Bad: It's been stated before, but I'm gonna put some emphasis on it. - I don't like F5's station that much. - The area seems very empty and barren. Suggestions: - The station needs an overhaul. Make it look like it was hit by a tornado. Or at least make it look like a barn or a house or something. - Add TONS of scenery around the area. There needs to be a lot of trees, a lot of flowers, and a lot of theming. Maybe add some wreckage theming around the coaster. - Do the same for the rest of the area. Overall: - It looks like you started strong and then tapered off. Keep building awesome buildings and add a lot of scenery and you'll have an excellent park.
