Hersheypark Springtime in the Park

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to let everyone know from the hershey park website and also a phone call that Storm Runner and Fahrenheit will not be operating for Springtime in The Park

Park Said they are not operating due to possible cold temperatures that may be in the area since prior years it has been as low as 24 degrees

Are the Racers and Wildcat even open then? They aren't on the ride list. I was thinking of taking a trip, but driving 4 hours for the day might not be worth it if only 3 decent coasters are going to be open.

Midway America will not be open.

I think more of the reason why SR and FH won't be open is because it won't be ready by then. Some of the SR cars still haven't been inspected when I went up to shadow last month. Also FH's trains are over at Intamin being worked on.

I'm not upset that they won't open, in fact I'm happy becuase it will give some of the other coasters like Sidewinder, Trailblazer, and SDL some of the ridership thay haven't had in a long time. There's a good chance I might be going.

They always ran Stormrunner other years. It closed once in a while, but mostly it ran well. They also run it at Halloween.

Is Great Bear scheduled to run? That was the one they always used to close if it got cold, but it was always scheduled to run.

I don't know why they never run Lightning Racer, you'd think they would want to run a coaster that can handle so many people, and it's the best wood coaster in the park. They ought to get it open to make up for the other ones being closed. That, or cut the price.

EDIT: I see on their website that the price is $23.95. I could swear that when I looked a month or so ago it was $29.95. Maybe they did lower it. But I'm still seriously pissed off. I was looking forward to going to Hershey all winter, but now it hardly seems worth it. I can imagine how long the line for Great Bear is going to be if it's open, since it's the only other good coaster there.

I don't think it was ever $29.95. I checked the site a few weeks ago and it said $23.95.

Very upsetting since I thought this was going to be my chance to marathon both those rides because I had planned to go on Easter Sunday which is supposedly a day when the park is empty. 6 out of 11 coasters closed is bad, especially because it was only cold in 2007. 2006 was warm (I wore shorts to the park) and last year I don't think it was cold either.

Would have been nice to Rollersoaker operating without the water as well.

I went on the day before Easter in 2006 and Midway America was opened but it was jammed. Storm Runner had a full queue (someone said it was 2 hours), Great Bear was 45 minutes, SDL's line was down the steps and in the lower level.

If I still go, I guess I'll have to marathon SDL and Comet instead.

The chances of me going are now greater and its going to be interesting after my February trip.

If anyone is going on the Saturday and is interested in meeting up, feel free to let me know. I plan on meeting a few friends there as well. Even SR and FH won't be open, Great Bear will be .

Will the construction in the Boardwalk area effect Lightning Racers from being open? There is a chance I will go to Springtime at Hershey on Saturday since the weather will hopefully clear up by noon unlike Jackson, NJ where it is suppose to rain all day. I don't care about the Intamins that much but if Comet & Lightning Racers are open I'll be happy.

While Hersheypark is preparing to open for Springtime In The Park, we have been informed that both Storm Runner and Fanhenheit will be closed during the event. According to a reader who e-mailed the park, the reason for both being closed is due to “additional maintenance than we had not anticipated.” They do expect both rides to be open when the park’s regular season starts on May 2nd. In the meantime I’ve heard that the park is also showing off a good look at the Boardwalk expansion on their webcam.

I'm not going to say that it's going to happen, but it could be possible. Last week Hersheypark posted a video and a photo on their facebook page showing Fahrenheit's trains being loaded on to the tracks (see below).

The park would need to test the trains and the ride and have it approved for the season and depending on how long this takes, it could open, but we would need to wait and see tomorrow. I saw on the Boardwalk webcam this morning one of the trains sitting in the transfer track in the center.

You think it is going to be open by tomorrow? I think you are being a little optimistic. The park already said it won't open both of the coasters, it is not listed on the website to be open, and, just like when The Boardwalk was being constructed, Midway America will not be open. The last point being the major one - those are 3 things going completely against it being open at all. Don't get your hopes up.

I'm not really, I'm just saying it could be depending on how long it takes to inspect the coaster. Also the fact that Midway America opened a few years ago and it was unannounced. The park could also easily put up temporary fencing leading to the entrance and according to the webcam the construction is on the otherside of the midway.

I'm just saying that it is possible, but I also would be suprised or care if it doesn't open.

Good luck, you will need it! If Midway America is closed (since they could still open it as they did in past years) and only 5 coasters are open, I don't even want to think about how bad the lines are going to be. Then there is the chance they won't be running multiple trains on everything.

I hope I am wrong and lines won't be bad but I can see crazy lines for the few coasters open.

According to the ride list no Lightning Racers, Wild Mouse, or Wildcat I hope Fahrenheit does open so everyone won't be hanging around Comet.

I remember hearing that too, so when I saw Lightning Racers testing I went crazy. I first saw it on the lift, and it looked like they were synchronizing the chains since they had both trains moving slowly, when occasionally one would pick up speed and then stop completely. I was finally in my car in the shopping outlets when they were synchronized and cleared the lift, although I missed the first cycle. I kept my camera on and got that photo. I was only there for about fifteen minuets, but I saw it cycle with two trains about five or six times. We’ll just have to see what happens…

That happened to me a few years back. Sooperdooperlooper was running one train and was into the switchbacks, Comet had 2 overflow queues filled, it was crazy.

I'll be there tomorrow and now here's something that confuses me. According to the latest webcam shot, it shows not fence blocking off the midway where it usually is. Last year it was blocked off before the restrooms building and it seems like it's open all the way down through.

There is a good spot to get pics right next to the fence near the cabana building.

If you see a guy wearing a dark blue Hersheypark hat and a green jacket tomorrow, that would be me. I wonder if ACE will be there like last year?

I'll also be there, hanging around with Ccron10! If you see a tall blond-haired guy with glasses wearing my "Born to Ride HP t-shirt", that will be me. I'll also most likely be wearing my digital camera around my neck.

We'll both be posting photo updates to our forum over at Hersheypark Crazy and I'm sure Chris will be posting his T/R on here as well. We plan on having a meet-up at 12:30 in front of Reese's X-treme Cup Challenge for all who are interested. We hope to catch some of you there!
