Lou - Rach was a star, though she did do you over a bit, which only improved her star status even more. Everyone loved Rachel. Divv3k Posted March 29, 2009 Author Share Posted March 29, 2009 DAYS 11 - 13: DISNEYLAND PARIS - Part 2 The next morning we got up bright and early for some hotel ERT in Disneyland Park. This was a really good chance to get some rides out the way before the masses and masses of visitors flooded in today. Being totally honest, parkwise, this visit to DLP wasn't anywhere near as good as my visit just over a year earlier (See that TR HERE). The staff, crowd control and operations just weren't up to the standard we'd gotten used to for the past week in the German parks. That said, I still love DLP and we had a fantastic group who had an amazing time there! We started out with some Extra Magic Hours in Discoveryland and headed to Space Mountain. On my previous visit I thought it was a bit bumpy but still quite good. This time it was horrific! Bad, I mean Gouderix bad! A real shame too because the onboard audio and the show inside really are cool! After about half an hour of EMH we left and set up camp outside the not-yet-opened-for-the-day Walt Disney Studios entrance with grand plans of being amongst the first riders of Crush's Coaster since the thing seems to be a bit of a capacity nightmare. Such problems aren't helped when there isn't any Fast Passes and get even worse when the coaster doesn't even open with the park. Our group grabbed Tower Fast Passes and got in line for Crush waiting to see if it would open after over an hour our Tower fast passes were good and we decided to cut our losses and go ride Tower. This was a good idea because Crush didn't open for a while after we left. Tower was good, not quite up to a par with the Florida version as expected but a much needed addition to the park. We basically hopped between the parks eventually getting on Crush later in the day. I was a bit "meh" about it. The dark ride section, the cars and the station were fantastic. The coaster itself was just a coaster in the dark. I think a little more could have been done inside to make it feel a bit more "Disney-ish". That said the Maurer spinners are fun and whilst this was no Winjas or Dragon's Fury I did like it. I just expected more. Okay, that's all I can be bothered saying about our first day at Disney. Here's some photos... Despite the crowds we had a a great day! And the fun was only just beginning! Next up - the update Steve has been anxiously awaiting! Yes we did ride Crush in the end! And yes Lou is trying to ruin this photo but I'm posting it anyway because Rach looks like she actually enjoyed it! This sign rocks. The station for Crush really was cool! You can't help but freaking love the seagulls! MINE!!! After about 40 minutes of waiting for Crush again Steve lets the previous night start catching up with him. Fudgey approves of the road to the Studios... This dragon has no German Lesbian Energy. This makes it sad. It really was a nice day so the park was looking great! Indy was it's usual "ride once and never again" self. Random group photo at Phantom Manor! Jeez look at those crowds! With the Studios conquered for now we did a little hop. It's starting to get a wee bit busy in the mother park. Everyone must stop moving whilst Lou pays homage to Casablanca! Yay for Tower and for the fact that we're gonna ride something in the Studios! I don't know what kind of message Erik is trying to convey here but I'm very amused! Whilst we were in the queue I let Lou wander off with my camera. Unsurprisingly this is what she came back with. We got in line for this. But didn't ride this morning. After a short time in Discoveryland we camped out at the Walt Disney Studios entrance. This was my score in Buzz Lightyear it would seem. I can't even remember if this was a good score?! Bill's smiling here so this is obviously BEFORE they rode! Morning! And welcome to Extra Magic Hours at Disneyland Paris! Erik_73 Posted March 31, 2009 Share Posted March 31, 2009 At that first day At Disney, on the crowded aria's like in adventureland where Indiana Jones is located, this Disney park lost it's magical glance for me. May be because it was too crowded, maybe because that stupid operator / maintenance strike at Crush' coaster in the morning or maybe because we came from europe's best parks (Europa- Phantasia- and Heidepark)... but the Disney fan in me was a bit disappointed that day. Also the hotelroom at Disney could not compete with the the other park hotelrooms during the trip. Luckily the group was fantastic to hang out with! Service at the Paris Disney parks is certainly lacking compared to other parks in the chain. But it did have the best versions of the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Studios park was better than I'd expected (but that line for Crush . . . phew). Louise Posted March 31, 2009 Share Posted March 31, 2009 I was okay with Santa Fe, it was fine, it's just that my expectations are much higher of Disney. Disney as a whole generally exceeds any expectations I have a thousand times over, but Paris... Just lets me down. Santa Fe is a fine hotel by most standards, but as Erik says, when you've come from somewhere like Europa where Colosseo is just indescribably amazing in every way... It can't live up to it. Hell, Erik and Divv stayed in Sequoia which is supposed to be more impressive, if even that didn't live up...! DLP is just meh for me now. Plus on this visit I received the worst service from two particular castmembers that I've EVER had from any Disney employee, hell, it's competition for worst service I've ever received from ANY park employee! Edited to add: HOWEVER, I must give Disney credit where due to be fair to them: Them giving us some extra ERT went a long way and was really very impressive, and the cast of characters at the dinner on the last night was really very good. Divv3k Posted March 31, 2009 Author Share Posted March 31, 2009 Yeah, despite being really happy about doing the upgrade to Sequoia (new Disney hotel credit!) I would still say that it ranks fifth out of the five resort hotels we did on the trip. That's not to say it wasn't great because it really was. The others were just unbelievable! --- DAYS 12 & 13: DISNEYLAND PARIS - Part 3 HURRICANE'S After some great time in the parks we headed out for a night in Disney Village. After much alcohol consumption we headed into their nightclub, Hurricane's and marveled in awe at the sight of Steve tearing up the dance floor! I'd seen photos and videos from Spain but NOTHING prepares you for the real thing! I'm really hoping for a repeat performance at some point in Scandi! This was one of the best nights of my life! If you're looking for park or even semi-Disney photos then skip this update. If you want to marvel at Steve and laugh then this update is for you! This was such an amazing evening that I'll never forget! One last update to go... Steve, you're a star. I'm just sad I didn't take video! Here was our awesome Hurricane's group. Except Steve, who was too busy to be concerned by things like group photos! Oh, and look Lou, I'm this one! Yay! Not to be outdone, Brad really shocked us all with his moves too! It's like playing Where's Wally, except this is "Where's Steve and who's he accosting now?" Now that is HOT! Yes, there were actually other people in Hurricane's this evening! "Have you seen this guy move?!?!" I still have no idea how he did it. Steve you're amazing! No one was safe! He did this for hours! Seriously! I've never seen anything like it! Steve can move!!! "Dance with me bitch!" We obviously weren't good enough for Steve to dance with so he headed out looking for new partners. As soon as we got into Hurricane's Steve started tearing up the dance floor! We started this morning with some super exclusive ERT on Big Thunder. We were all amazed! After a few rides I headed back to the hotel for some more sleep since I'd only gotten an hours sleep after all the fun of the previous night. I would have stayed in bed but there was no way I was missing out on Disney ERT! Later in the day we had a great farewell dinner at Chef Mickey's which amused me endlessly mainly due to Erik professing his undying love for the furries. I don't think I can repeat on here his exact words... The trip was capped off with the "Enchanted Fireworks" or whatever they were called. I have to say I expected them to be crap but I thought they were actually pretty good! Much better than Wishes that I'd see in Florida later in the year I think! Plus, these were made even better by witnessing Big Mike clearing out people who were obstructing Lou's view using any means necessary! Not much else to say about the parks now that hasn't already been said. I just want to reiterate how amazing not only this day but the entire trip was. I can't imagine having a summer without a TPR trip now. It really is the time of your life. So I'd like to say a big thanks to Robb & Elissa for all their hard work putting this together, everyone on the trips appreciates it so much. I for one can't wait for Scandi and know its gonna top this one. As tough as that might be! A big thanks to all the participants too. You do the first TPR trip to visit the parks but the next one (and every one after!) is all about the friends! That's the number one reason I'm doing Scandi this year. Can't wait to see everyone again in the future! And that does it for this TR. If you stuck with it til the end I thank you kindly. I had a fantastic time visiting some amazing parks and hanging with some amazing friends! Thanks to everyone who had a part in it! I look forward to doing it all again in Scandi!!! Note to self... At 5am the sprinklers in the resort start spraying the path without warning. Do not be walking around the resort at 5am unless you want to get soaked (again). After the parks closed we got together at the bar to say our farewells. This is always the saddest part of the trip. Good thing I'll be seeing most of you again in a couple of months!!! The fireworks were a good surprise. Much better than expected! The trip was excellently capped off by DLP's first fireworks display of the summer. Night time parades are always better with hotties like Belle added. I'm surprised any of these night photos came out. My camera usually sucks at such things. DLP's castle is amazing looking. Especially when they light it green! The snake was obstructing our view for a few seconds but Big Mike took care of it. For a few minutes Lou got confused and thought she was in Japan. After 16 days of this we all went a little crazy. Brad especially so here. SMALL WORLD!!! The house I grew up in looks EXACTLY like this! Final DUCK credit of the trip!!! Which also happened to right next to our final ride of the trip... We finished the trip meal collection with an awesome dinner in Chef Mickey's. Erik was super excited to meet all the characters! One thing I did not do was ride this again! No thank you! Again, it was quite crowded today so I was content just walking around and recovering from the previous night! Pirates is my favourite ride in the world. I could ride this all day! Adventureland is Fudgey's kind of place. I'd visited DLP before but this was closed. So despite not counting it I really wanted to tick that box on CoasterCounter! Because we have Big Thunder Mountain ERT! That's right ERT at a Disney park! Surely this must be a first for an enthusiast group?! Ooh, we're going behind the scenes! Why? Early the next morning we head back into Disneyland. Louise Posted March 31, 2009 Share Posted March 31, 2009 A few random thoughts relating to this last update: * I fudging LOVE the group shot from Hurricane's and the picture of me and Brad, I don't think I had any pictures of us together and now I do! * The picture of me grabbing Rachel's boob... I do not remember. At all. I've seen the picture a few times but still don't remember the event. And I wasn't drinking. WTF. * Steve dancing NEVER gets old. And in the picture where it says "he did this for hours", he was actually dancing ON THE STAGE. And I'd like to point out that Steve was allowed to dance on the stage, but when Rach and I went up there we were asked to get down! Rude! Favouritism! * Something Divv didn't mention: When entering Hurricanes we were offered wristbands of various colours. No clue why at the time. Halfway through the evening we found out it was singles night and each colour wristband indicated what you were "into"... Apparently TPDave was gay, Rach was into chicks, and I wanted a one-night stand with a guy with money! So funny. * Small World totally deserved to be last ride of the trip. * OMFG BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA at Big Mike clearing my view! Absobloodylutely hilarious moment, I nearly fell over laughing.
