Airtime&Gravity
(Ebru News/Agency) More than 170 people were trapped on the world's tallest observation wheel after fire damaged the wheel's control room. The 541-foot wheel, known as the Singapore Flyer, malfunctioned for the third time since it began operating in February. Rescue workers scrambled to get passengers to the ground but according to the latest report, only five people had made it to safety so far. The passengers - who reported that the air conditioning was temporarily cut off - were trapped for more than six hours. Steven Yeo, General Manager Singapore Flyer said: "At 4:50 we experienced an electrical problem on our drive unit number 1, north unit, which caused several electrical supplies to be cut. The defect has actually been isolated, we found it to be the drive unit itself, the rest of the wheel, the rest of the electrical supply is in full functioning order at the moment." The Singapore Flyer is about 100 feet taller than the London Eye, formerly the world's tallest observation wheel. Link The link includes a video, and apparently, many people are still trapped. BJS1981
Three malfunctions in less than a year....it seems the wheel is more troublesome than it's worth. Kinda like Deja Vu was.

Mozart67
God..to be trapped in a gondola on a wheel over 500 feet tall... I hope they get the Flyer squared away, though. At an estimated price of nearly $180,000,000 US, that's a loss I dont think anyone could afford. This has nothing to do with the specific topic, but it boggled my mind to discover that ride tickets for the first 3 days the Flyer was open were sold out..to the tune of $6,271 per ticket. Hurricane
I cried when my local city council decided to get a 60m Ferris Wheel... The day it opened my best mate dragged me on it. She is now 3rd mate from the bottom of the list
