Hard Rock / Freestyle Music Park Discussion Thread

^^I'm glad I have my hard hats and a t-shirt from the hard hat tour prior to the park opening. I also bought some pins because I'm a wacko like that....oh and of course my obligatory deck of cards. Too bad I never got back to ride a freakin' ride!!! Oh well. I for one am sad that they didn't make this happen. It was a good idea, but just not completely cared for or thought out.

^Twist my arm...travel to different parks to pick up the missed credits. Who would do that? Oh yeah...this is TPR, a comforting home for those of us who call ourselves credit whores!!

Mostly I wanted to ride LZ and I was of course very curious about MaxRPM. And Nights in White Satin...I love a dark ride, then add all the trippy stuff. Color me intrigued! Again...oh well. It's all just more frustrating than sad.

And the thing with MGM grand adventures is that MGM claims it cost 1 billion dollars to create that park! Yes...a BILLION!.....I worked for the Grand Adventures theme park in its final years......it was so sad...they shrunk the park down to half its initial size.....took out the good rides, and left s**t! The problem with that park is the same problem with all the other attractions that have developed and failed on the Las Vegas Strip! The hotels did NOTHING to advertise and promote there attractions...either 'cause they didnt know how....or they simply didnt want too.....since the attractions take the guests out of the casinos, and away from gambling.......(i.e. the Guggenheim Museum at the Venetian, or the Nile Boat ride thru the Luxor.....and the MGM grand Adventures theme park!

Parks that could use it:

Worlds of Fun - needs to replace Orient Express, but too soon after Prowler

Um, Orient Express has been deceased for over 5 years now...

That was exactly Shane's point. It's been over 5 years now and the park does not have a sit down, looping coaster....unless you count the Boomerang.

I'd still count Boomerang, but it would be nice if they got LZ: TR. I'm not sure if they have the space for it though. And it'd have to be completely re-themed. Plus, Prowler, and I'd think HRP's rides would sell off in 1-2 years. Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea, because I think they should keep it's theme. It's really cool, and IS basically the ride! They need to find a park where it would fit well with it's theme...anyone have any ideas?

You can sit down in Patriot.

Add a fresh coat of paint and maybe a ride building and you can theme up a coaster to any park, especially when you look at most "theme" parks. How do you think Cedar Fair and Six Flags get away with shifting their rides to other parks?

They've added both a coaster more or less in the spot OE took up, as well as another looping coaster. So since I'm someone who can't read Montezooma's mind, it would seem like an odd statement considering it was removed half a decade ago, and by this summer this fairly small, local park will have added 3 coasters in the 5 years since its demise...

Let me clarify my comment. Parks that have a good coaster lineup seem to offer variations and different styles of coasters. When I was working in the design division of two of the Theme Park companies we always tried to provide a different experience with each new attraction.

Therefore I was suggesting that LZ fit the catagory as a full circuit looping sit down coaster.. Back in the old days this variation was typically fullfilled by a standard Arrow looper. Today a lot of those old rides are being removed which leaves a void for that variation of ride. So with the removal of Orient Express WOF is now without a full ciruit sit down looper. Boomerang is sit down and it does loop, but it is a considered a shuttle coaster and some people do not like to ride in the backwards position so I don't consider it a replacement for Orient Express. Patriot is a completely different experience also...no further explanation needed.

Therefore one might conclude that LZ would be a perfit fit, not in the exact location as Orient Express, to complete different ride experiences at Worlds of Fun...any questions?

I don't think you needed to clairfy your comment Shane, but I'm glad you did. I "got" what you were saying to begin with. Does that make me a mind reader? I had no idea I had that talent!

Probably wouldn't be too hard to change that zeppelin into Snoopy's dog house, themed to the red baron.

I see what you're saying, but we are talking about Worlds of Fun here...it AIN'T Magic Mountain. The fact that they have added a B&M invert and a GCI woodie in the last 3 years MORE than makes up for the fact that they lost the painful Orient Express. But then again, I'm from Missouri, so I guess I have no knowledge......excuse me.

This is a great site, but as a theme park visitor of 30-plus years, its a bit annoyoing that Californians who have been to Missouri once or twice to ride roller coasters pretend to know more about that state's theme parks than a loyal middle-aged poster who has has visited the park in question more than half-a-dozen times since he was in the 5th grade in 1979...

OK you win...LZ will not work for World's of Fun. It is obvious to me now that a used B&M coaster would not work for an average size theme park that already has a boomerang. Thanks for pointing that out, I don't know what I was thinking...must have been the California sun.

Moderators can you please go back and remove World's of Fun from my list of parks that could POSSIBLY use LZ

Done. I guess all your years of experience in the theme park industry actually creating parks is worth nothing in Kansas City, Shane.

You're taking this too seriously. Shane's original point was to show a silver lining in the dark cloud of HRP's failure: there's an opportunity for a smaller park to get a B&M at an affordable price.

He then proceeded to do some fun brainstorming from bird's-eye view about which parks could, in theory, use a B&M sit-down looper based on their existing coaster line up.

He wasn't writing business cases for each park with actual ROI analysis, market research, and the like. His post was about what parks could broadly use this type of coaster based on the contents of their existing assets. It's obviously up to the individual park managers to decide if the numbers work out enough to bid on LZ.

Strange comments.

As a Californian who has been to WoF 7 times since 1999 (and NO, that doesn't make me more knowledgeable than anyone else), and I'm quite sure that Robb has been there even more than that, I find it interesting that Shane's comments are so easily tossed aside.

I, as well as Robb I assume, find Shane's thoughts and conjecture to be quite insightful, as he does work in the industry.

I guess in Missouri, the local papers have columns dedicated to the thoughts of management from WoF that we Californians are not privy to.

Bummer dude.

JJ

PS. Robb, I do have some great suggestions about how to fix Donkey Kong. Afterall, I did play it once.

Hell, they could even play the old Royal Guardsmen tune from the 1960s over the ride's sound system

10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or more,

The bloody Red Baron

Was runnin' up his score!

80 men died trying to end that spree

Of the bloody Red Baron of Germany!

Oh, the worthless information that rattles around in my head . . .
