^ I do realize too, but coasters is the only thing HRP is really missing. From what I read, it has a good atmosphere to it and good theming. So from reading that the only thing HRP needs is BETTER COASTERS!!!!

 

Are you serious...you have GOT to be kidding! The park opened 5 coasters. Thats more than some parks have period. Not all of them are block buster coasters but still I seriously doubt their problem is the lack of coasters.

The "people" will not let this park die. True didn't do well in it's first year but im sure you didnt pop wheelies, or do handstands the first time you rode a bike. I feel the park closing in nov is better for them because thats standard for alot of parks. I feel the park will and is learning from their mistakes and will come back next year stronger...and hopefully with a water ride.

I remember when DCA first opened that they had the same hours as Disneyland. The park was empty late at night. Now they open later and close earlier.

 

I think the park can make it but it probably needs to be a seasonal park. But I better make plans to visit soon just in case.

I don't think adding coasters to raise attendance is the best idea. Just ask Magic Mountain how attempting to open X and Deja Vu in the same year worked out. I will say however, that the park needs to appeal to a wider audience than just locals and and kids on spring break. A resort is a must for a park wedged around no other significant landmarks or venues.

 

With that said, HRP will need more rides in the lineup. Rome wasn't built in a day, so its easy to say they need more coasters, but how are they going to build three coasters (just putting a ballpark number) in one or two seasons when the parks revenue is failing expectations?

 

Taking out loans to build rides to increase attendance is risky, because if the plan fails, you're in the hole $2 billion and forced to put a plethora of unnecessary advertising throughout your park.

Oh well. I was confused as to how a park in SC was going to be a year round attraction anyways.

 

Ha, you guys think the park is dead now, just wait until winter when not a sole is on the beaches. Them staying open over the winter is a stupid idea in my opinion. It's summer when kids are not in school, college kids are home, and families are on vacation. That doesn't happen in the winter. Im surprised this hasn't came up as often. They have to lose a lot more money in the winter then they are now.

 

Exactly, I used to go to Myrtle Beach with family over thanksgiving break and there was hardly anyone there. After I found out HRP was planning on staying open all year I was scratching my head as to how they would pull that one off.

 

In any case, I'm going to Myrtle Beach to get to HRP and and finally get on Swamp Fox in a week, so I will see just what the deal with this joint is then.

the park just doesn't have enough rides to justify the ticket price. If tickets were 20 bucks, no one would be complaining about the coaster selection. But I can ride 11 coasters, ~10 flats, and visit a sizeable waterpark at Hersheypark for less then i'd pay at Hard Rock Park.

To justify paying that much for 2 tickets I am planning on marathoning all the decent rides all day

There's nothing wrong with the company that's running it. It is in a VERY BAD LOCATION! The demographics of the area will not support a park of that size. Just like Jazzland/SFNO!

 

Get it through your head. Jazzland was a failure from the beginning. When SF stepped in and bought it, all it did was prolong the inevitable.

 

Just like how the people on the Titanic kept dancing, and the band kept playing. It still sank!!

However, when SF stepped in and bought it, there was a much higher potential for success, as the population base (within less than an hour's drive, I might add) and demographics of the area were/are much more conducive to the Six Flags name. Hence, the success and staying power that the park now enjoys.

 

There are people here that think that the former Jazzland/SFNO was a successful park. It wasn't, and it failed. Hurricane Katrina just sealed it's fate.

 

Hard Rock Park suffers from the same problem that Jazzland/SFNO did. The local population couldn't support Myrtle Beach Pavilion, yet someone thought it was a good location for HRP. Again, the local population cannot support this park.

 

The tourists, aside from perhaps spring break, are generally not going to MB to visit an amusement park. Look at what actually thrives there. Golf courses, beach front hotels and retirement communities. Not amusement parks.

But going back to Hard Rock Park...I wonder had this place been built in Raleigh instead of MB..would that have made a difference? Charlotte has Carowinds. Richmond has KD and the Norfolk/Virginia Beach has BGE ( Williamsburg is part of their metro area ). And since Nags Head and the Outer banks aren't exactly known for amusement parks..what does Raleigh have?

Does anyone know when HRP officially closes for the season? The last weekend the hours are listed for is November 2nd but its open through December with hours TBA. Id really like to put off that trip till December to go to Dollywood during their Christmas event.

Actually I think that was Disneyland. They were having tons of problems with the rides and peoples shoes were sinking into the pavement if I remember correctly. (I saw it on TV a few months ago)

I believe HRP needs to lower the ticket prices, add a few new flats, and they may stick around longer until things wrok out. Yes I believe the overall location of the park was a bad choice but there is nothing we can do about it now.

This news doesn't surprise me at all. Hopefully the park can pull out of this mess and succeed, but that's being optimistic...

Well as of my visit of Hard Rock Park. I must say I wasn't truly impressed. The rides were okay and all but not stellar. The parking was worse than a parking garage, very tight ,though it was 10 dollars, which is low. The ticket prices were huge I mean come on $97.85 for 2 tickets, I'd rather spend that at like a Six flags.

 

The parks atmosphere was great I will give it that but ride wise nothing big. I'll give the park another 2 years before I go back. Come on when the smoothest ride in the park is the KIDDIE coaster...theres something wrong here. I'll admit rides like Led are great but for a brand new ride Led had a really bad case of rattle. Eagles was okay if your a newbie. Slippery when Wet, "innuendo" the ride right here, not so much as the water pooping fountain cow though.

 

The flat rides being randomly placed was a "meh" rating at best. They were having huge on and off issues with RMP , I'll give them that being as its a prototype. Though half the rides I got on it with my Fiance the music did not play. That was another thing as Robb had said during his TR, the music just felt "Kinda there" not really adding to the ride majorly at all. The food was okay but as in all parks over priced, We got water all day to save which is a smart and healthy idea rather than a coke or a sprite. The fact that a cheese steak and onion rings were nearly 11 dollars though "meh!" .

 

Another thing I must vastly point out is the staff though. Most were friendly but when you ask an employee "can we have a fork or a knife" to simply cut a cheese steak..and they respond with "I no...speak english I no get what you say" theres a problem. Over all though I will give the park a 6/10 rating.. Until next time.

 

 

I can see why this park isn't doing so well and I'm still willing to give it a fair shot in a few years with talks of a resort and casino though I feel it may draw a bad crowd if they go through with the new ideas if true. All brand new parks have good and bad points. Teething issues I think they call them.

 

 

OH and not surprisingly Moody Blues..ho-ly crap it smelled like drug heaven. The entire place smelt like a drug bomb went off inside it. it honestly detracted ALOT from the experience. My fiance also lost her sun glasses out of her pocket some how in the que tunnel.

I think HRP was uniquely hit by the "American kids go back to college, exchange students tend to still need a gig" vibe.

 

Everyone I ran into had an Eastern European accent. W/e.

 

Probably would've been much better in May.

Originally the Disney's America park was going to be built in Haymarket, Virginia. After the locals booted Disney out, the company supposedly considered buying Knott's Berry Farm and converting it to the planned park instead.

Looks like the banks are now filing liens against the park for missed loan payments. I dont think the current ownership will make it through the winter. Hopefully someone will come in an bail them out.
