Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

I can't really agree with either the general public or most of the forum members because unlike most of you, I really liked Psyclone, even in its final days. In my opinion, Psyclone was the best woodie in SoCal out of the...um...truly massive pool of four candidates. Sure it was rough, sure it made you wish you had double or tripled your insurance coverage, but isn't that supposed to be part of the appeal of wooden coasters in the first place?

By comparison, Ghostrider is a close second, but Colossus hasn't aged particularly well and the Giant Dipper (at Belmont Park) is more of a classic relic than a true thrill ride. Basically, my hope is that Terminator will combine the excitement of its predecessor with the smoothness of...well, most coasters OTHER than Psyclone.

Hutch to Denver will be the most boring trip of your entire life. Depends on if you head to Denver or just shoot south though

Not even going through Denver. Going through southern CO and stopping in Cortez for the night before heading to Vegas for a couple nights.

Glad to see some locals on here BTW!

Psyclone, when it first opened, kicked all kinds of major tail. I mean, it was AMAZING and I would ride it at least 3-4 times per visit. Even now, I've probably ridden Psyclone more than any other woodie except probably Colossus. And that's considering I didn't ride it more than once or twice a year during it's last decade at the park.

But it got bad, REALLY bad in it's last few seasons.

I know the downfall with Psyclone wasn't ALL maintenance, but I really hope SFMM gives Terminator it's proper downtime each year and proper maintenance so it doesn't turn into another Ghostrider.

For some reason the CA parks don't seem to get that wooden coasters take much more TLC than steel coasters.

No. Not AT ALL!

I never understood this mentality of "A wood coaster should be so rough that it kicks your ass!"

I don't know about other people, but I go on roller coasters to be thrilled and have fun, not get the crap kicked out of me!

Maybe it's just me, but I like rides where I can throw my arms up in the air, let loose and have fun, not rides that I have to ride defensively and hang on for dear life.

That kind of ride...just isn't fun to me. And seeing how low the ridership was on Psyclone in the past 10 years, it would seem like the public majority agrees.

Ironically enough I would hear people get off Deja Vu and go "Wanna ride Psyclone?" "No way man, that thing beats you up..."

^With Xcelerator having most of it's "non-critical" downtime coming from overheating, a rocket coaster in a hotter climate screams 'OUCH!'

Offtopic : I was there when it overheated. Also the same day it rolled back twice

^^ Really I think no one on this site wants the crap kicked out of them. I HATED Psyclone, it sucked, it hurt, and almost made me go to the nearest trash can and hurl everywhere. Seriously if a ride hurts like that I would never go on it again, I am there for the fun and the thrill just like most people.

Maybe it won't be the best or the worst. I'm just a novice, from some people's opinions, but I just like a cool fun ride. I don't crituque or even know what company built what and where. I just like a fun experience. I just very recently rode California Screamin' at DCA and loved it. I still like Goldrusher even when I feel sorrow for Colossus. I welcome a new coaster; maybe it's not a groundbreaking hypermeagcoaster but it's a new addition and a healthy mix. I am looking forward to riding this June 14th.

Speaking of which, anybody in SoCal seen any Terminator commercials on TV yet? Shouldn't they be doing a marketing blitz for this thing right now?

They are advertising it all over Tv. I see a ton of comercials every day for it, lol.

Im so happy we have a GCI to ride now.

Iv'e seen a ton of SF commercials advertising X2, Tatsu, and Goliath as well as ads for the film, but nothing cross-promoting the two.

^ They're keeping quiet about it so people will grab a hold of the 25$ deal, see that a new ride is being built, then come back again and pay the 50$ or whatever it is to come again. Great marketing if you ask me.

^I actually like a little "kick" in some wooden coasters. I actually thought GhostRider was a little better with some "kick," but now it's way too much! Psyclone was a rough delight that only my brother and I enjoyed. Hopefully Terminator will give the general public of California some new faith in wooden coasters.

MR Bebe says: While GhostRider is certainly more rickety than in its' younger years, I can still ride it, and it's a fun, out of control ride.

Psyclone, on the other hand, was so much more painful than you can ever imagine, that I NEVER had fun and wished I didn't keep trying it. IT SUCKED! I think I ramked it as the WORST coaster I've ridden (out of 96). Glad it's gone & hope the replacement (T:S) ROCKS!

I think the point of what a lot of people are saying is that a lot of people can forgive the roughness of Ghostrider because A) it still has some redeeming qualities and B) it used to be a top ten ride!

Psyclone post Earthquake had no redeeming qualities at all, and even when it was 'good' pre-earthquake it sure didn't make anyone's top ten lists.

I don't expect Terminator to make anyone outside of SoCal's Top Ten lists, but it will be a really solid B+ Ride.

Please, guys. This is the TERMINATOR THREAD! If you want to talk about Xcelerator overheating, do it in thread that is NOT the TERMINATOR THREAD!

Thank you!

Those local to LA and the Inland Empire. I just heard on 99.1 KGGI (hip hop station out here in the IE) that they are having a contest to see the movie and ride it on Media Day (May 21st) didn't get the full details nor is it on their website yet, but I'll post more when I know more.

since we're talking about it. I never rode Psyclone "post-earthquake" however, I rode it enough times to determine the ride that it was(a good time). On the other hand, I did ride Ghostrider just recently, and although I am very tolerable of a rough ride....I will not ride it again(until they figure out a way to fix it). Ghostrider along with Pony Express are some of the worst rides I've ever been on, obviously for different reasons. But IMHO Ghostrider was #1 most un-ridable roller coaster I've been on. I've enjoyed Flashback, Orient Express, Psyclone, and some more of the so- called "worst rides" in the world, sans Gourderix. Terminator seems to be a true crowd-pleaser, perhaps not the longest or tallest of the GCI's, but I do believe it will show the GP what a good wooden roller coaster really is.

I always liked Psyclone a little bit. Sure it was rough but besides newer woodies which ones aren't rough. I personally love woodies that are super rough. And ones that are smooth. I haven't ridden Ghostrider in a year or so but I don't remember it being that bad. However, Terminator will definitely be smooth which is what SoCal needs. So that the GP can learn that not all woodies are back breaking. But again I still love a good back breaking ride. Its part of the fun of some rides. Like Colossus after the MCBR.

I am going to have agree with Rob on this one - I don't understand the whole rough = good mentality when it comes to wooden coasters. My dad seems to associate rough rides with the classic feel of a wooden ride. I thought it was just a generation gap thing, but apparently not. Personally, I find it hard to enjoy a ride when I am worried about my spleen rupturing (ie SOB).

I don't consider John Allen's Racer at Kings Island to be rough, but I do consider it a classic.

Anyway, Terminator will not be rough in any sense of the word. It will be a night and day comparison to Psyclone.
