Music, Music, Music

I don't know how many of you are into them, but Sleigh Bells has a new album, Reign of Terror, coming out TOMORROW. Usually, if there's an album I really want, I'll download it and then decide whether or not it's worth buying; but, since Treats was so good and the two singles from this new album (Born To Lose and Comeback Kid) were mouth-watering, I went all out and pre-ordered the vinyl without downloading a leak. It's going to be great. The vinyl is arriving tomorrow, and as soon as I'm out of class, it's on.

I would also like to add Daft Punk to the list for electronic music with talent. Pioneers of a sound which has been stolen by soo many musicians over the years. They actually do use real instruments (heck, they scored an entire movie soundtrack, orchestra and all!) They say that all metal riffs come from Black Sabbath, well pretty much every pop riff comes from Daft Punk!

So much truth in this statement. I found Daft Punk when I was in middle school (around the time I first discovered the internet!) and I've been hooked ever since. They're truly artists, and what they do is absolutely jaw dropping live. If you haven't seen their live set, check it out here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Uc3BMdP9Y - This is part one, check the side bar for the rest of the show. You can find the entire concert on the album "Alive 2007". It is absolutely phenomenal, and one of my favorite albums of all time.

As for Skrillex, I'm selective on which of his tracks I like. I don't like all of his music, but some of it isn't bad. Particularly the remixes he does with other artists such as Ellie Goulding. Really, really well done.

Haha, and Skrillex live presses play and bobs his head... Daft Punk, I can't even decipher all the things they're doing on the spot live. I've only fairly recently been getting into their live performances. With a lot of bands I have to understand the initial form of the music in order to understand the adjustments they do to it. But live I must say they do some phenomenal things! If I ever find the time to watch an entire set I certainly will. I've listened through their Alive albums and geez.. I wish I could do some of that stuff with remixes. And add on top of all that, they're robots haha. Soo much better than a mouse head. Though I love that too...

I hear they're working on a new album. It's been what? 7 or 8 years since their last proper new music? Really looking forward to it.

^If it weren't for the video title I wouldn't have even realized those first two tracks were Van Halen songs. And the last one just sounds like an inferior version of Ice Cream Man. Sigh. Not even the good bands make 'em like they used to .

It's quite interesting you said that, considering that this album is nothing more than old, re-recorded demo tapes.

Ah, pardon my ignorance; I can hear that now. But I still feel like there's something missing. It doesn't seem quite as youthfully mischievous as classic Van Halen is. Plus there's a lot to be said about production technique; it doesn't really have that Eddie Van Halen tone that's so recognizable.

But I probably just sound like some grumpy old man complaining about music these days. Get off my lawn!

Why does Thousand Foot Krutch keep moving the release of The End is Where We Begin back? When I first heard about the album it was scheduled for February of this month, then it was moved back to March, now it's not scheduled until April 17th. I should already have that album by now.

^I hear you on that issue. Even worse, several bands I love have put off albums so long that the music ends up a completely different style from what I originally appreciated them for.

Just to rant, here are a few examples (sorry for the MySpace links, but that's hardly my fault):

-I knew about a new Dingees album in the works for years before it finally came out. They teased with a few songs online, but that was all. The album was a departure from the vibe of theirs I had grown to love, though I'm sure some would call it equal, perhaps even an improvement (it's certainly no more mainstream; in fact, inherently less so).

-I knew a new album by The Havoc was planned, but by the time it finally came out, their style had changed somewhat from the street punk I loved. Plus, the album was only a short EP, and partly consisted of a cover song and live versions of previous songs. And after its release, they broke up, forming a new band in a completely different style.

-A new Transplants album was rumored for quite some time, with different album titles and even release timeframes mentioned in the last few years. However, it seems that only now are they truly serious about releasing it soon. I think Travis Barker's solo album last year was one of the last projects to sideline this one.

So, I'm kinda psyched for the next few weeks. Aside from the SBTRKT show I've been waiting for since January, I'm also seeing Real Estate and Twerps on April 7th! It's a real shame that Real Estate isn't more popular, they're so good...

(They have an album called Days. Go listen to it.)

It builds the anticipation more, I guess! I just hope they didn't already release to us the best songs on the album! I hate when bands do that... you get the CD, and you're like, "The songs I heard before the album came out were the best!"

I semi-know what you mean. There was this semi-underground band I really liked and I heard they were supposed to be releasing a new CD soon. This was several years ago and I still don't think they've released the CD! Or maybe they just released it recently? Either way, it took so long that I'm not really into the band anymore!

^I haven't listened to them in forever, but I used to love New Found Glory! I got into them back when I was ignorant and thought pop-punk was legitimate punk rock. (Thankfully, now I realize music genres are just categories, not a reason to choose one kind of music over another for meaningless image reasons.) I especially loved their album "Sticks and Stones," particularly the songs "Sonny" and "The Story So Far," though it's a catchy and thoughtful album overall.

I'd say the band I loved the most from my main pop-punk phase was The All-American Rejects. Their self-titled album was just about perfect, and "Move Along" was good as well. But now I want to get back into NFG, too!

They came out with a new CD last year (I think?), and it sounds pretty similar to their old stuff! It really rekindled my love for pop punk in general.

Just downloaded my pre-order digital version of Thousand Foot Krutch's new album, "The End is Where We Begin." It's SO GOOD. A little of a throwback to TFK's original rock-rap sound, but a lot more fresh. Then of course the raw rock but a little different from the last few albums. Overall, great sound for the entire album!!

Plus, the first 30 seconds of the new album is better than 90% of stuff on the radio. I had to listen to radio pop songs for about 8 hours yesterday... great detox to find that TFK gave me the pre-order download for their album!! Can't wait until the CD comes in the mail!

^My parents won't let my pre-order it. Don't ask why because I really have no idea. I'll just have to wait until it comes out. Only 10 more days though!

Bummer. I pre-ordered mine in December when they had their Kickstarter campaign after they announced going independent for this album.

I REALLY need to see them in concert this year. They are going to RAWK MY FACE OFF with these songs!

^If the Live At The Masquerade DVD is anything to go by then that would be an amazing show! I really can't pick a favorite band. Red and TFK have been leapfrogging each other since I got Until We Have Faces for Christmas last year. It's impossible for me to choose between them, they're both just too insanely epic!

For me, I <3 TFK more. I've been in love with them for a long time now.

You've never been to a TFK concert? You need to!! I think I've been to 7, it's starting to get hard to keep count!! The concerts are amazing! And the band is amazing if you get a chance to meet them! I don't know what the venues are like in Maryland, but I've been to some great TFK concerts in CA!
