Six Flags New England (SFNE) Discussion Thread

p. 337: Quantum Accelerator family coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

That's exactly the opposite of what they said last night when asked by someone to clarify, but I'm glad to see it seems like they're reconsidering.

I feel like this park actually takes in what us enthusiasts say to them. I mean they originally said the original headrests were staying, and now this! I know this park has their issues, but they do a good job.

Two thoughts.

1. Given the scale of the ride in question (already a kick-ass hyper), this could potentially be AMAZING and I can't wait to try it. It'll really take the edge off the fact that other than the paint job the renovation hasn't actually improved the ride experience in the slightest. I couldn't care less about assigned seating since I'll have a VR headset strapped to my face and given the awful capacity hit, I doubt I'll bother riding the coaster more than once a visit.

2. My enthusiasm is tempered by the fact that the resolution on the Gear VR is terrible. It's like looking through a dirty window. Specifically, it's like looking through the screen on a screen door because you can see a net of black lines separating the individual pixels. That's because you're essentially looking at an ordinary cell phone screen through a magnifying glass. So while it may be awesome to try once, it's really nothing more than a one-season gimmick. It's really not anything like TRUE virtual reality.

There are a few reasons why the GearVR is a lot worse than the dedicated headsets like the Oculus Rift, sure, but GearVR actually has the highest resolution of all of them . It's not too bad if you don't expect photorealism IMO.

I haven't tried the Oculus Rift but it has a wider field of vision, higher refresh rate, and overall better performance. I'm guessing it will easily be the better experience. I really wasn't that impressed with the Gear VR. I feel like if anything, its shortcomings may make it more prone to motion sickness because it's more "claustrophobic" feeling and there's more disparity between what your eyes are seeing and your body is feeling.

Yeah, all true. I only mentioned that because you mentioned resolution. The nice thing is that the second generation of VR coasters might be much nicer than the first, as tech evolves.

I didn't know the Oculus actually has a lower resolution. I wonder if they've found a way around the "screen door" problem. Honestly in the future, I think this is totally a viable concept that could be really awesome. That's why I'm excited to try it, it's so futuristic. For the next generation I'm imagining a train with a headset attached to the headrest on a hinge so you can easily pull it on and off like on an X wing:

That would be SICK

Not with the early versions. That's a typical complaint re: them.

Quick question: I read somewhere that the SFNE early entry is two hours prior to park opening, which seems wrong. What is early entry actually like in terms of time/crowds in late April/early May?

Also, I have seen conflicting reports about SRLs for Wicked Cyclone. I am going to assume they do not have one, but I am hoping I am wrong, because I have only gotten multiple rides on one [Outlaw Run] of the three RMC [iron Rattler and Goliath] coasters that I have been on. Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

I feel like listing off all the rides worth taking out in the future.

- Flashback

- Blizzard River (if they don't upgrade or repair it soon)

- Balloon Race

- Joker's Wildcard

- Mind Eraser!!!

- Any old kiddie rides if they want to renovate the area

- Splash Water Falls

Tell me if I missed any.

^ I hope they don't consider removing Blizzard River. It's one of the best rapids rides I've ridden (admittedly, I haven't been on many but it's still really good.) I do agree that it could use some TLC though. The penguins in the station seem to be caked in about two inches of dust.

When I was there last year there was no single rider line for WC, and early entry for (gold?) pass holders was... wait for it... 10 minutes. But I'm sure a local could help more.

They added one on around the tail end of the season and used it intermittently, though I was able to infer from a conversation with an attendant that they had had numerous issues with groups abusing the line.

I think it is funny they couldn't put row 5-2 back even though every other park is able to put the Samsung box on the train without removing any seats. The trains do look good though, wish they would keep the headrests off but they don't look very intrusive.
