Electerik
For the last three years, Dollywood has been my "home park." But, since I haven't done a TR this season, and it'd been over a month since our last visit, we decided to spend the whole day there, with the mentality that we'd never been before. We dressed for water rides. Which is good, because it rained all day. Nevertheless, some of the pictures actually came out pretty good, despite the gloomy skies. Noted. (And what better way to end?) This was a strange new attraction: Dolly's tour bus. Which you could tour, and then purchase a photo of yourself standing inside. Mostly because of the on-board radio. Still my favorite car ride. The slightly renamed Smoky Mountain Rampage in all its glory. And here's one for...well, I don't know, really. Here's one for The Nerd. I'll just snipe some old people, instead. Enough spinning for me. Go on without me. We rode this one, though! A beautiful ride that's so boring that we skipped it with no line. The Country Fair is growing in nicely. "Crap, there's that stupid fire hydrant again. Just ignore him and maybe he'll go away." Dolly hates to fly. (This is apparently true. Don't say I never taught you anything.) The front side of the Grist Mill. I call this shot, "Frog Desires Penny." This clock does not appear to be completely accurate. I'm kind of the world. We've eaten, now which way? The back side of the Grist Mill. Denied. Run away! Now Misty wants to be cool like me. Do your worst; I'm dressed for water rides. Misty tries her luck with the frog horn. This ramp is not wheelchair accessible. Employee, employee, employee, hmmm...that lady on the bench might be a guest. :OP The big bucket thing at the end of the ride. Daredevil Falls Egads! Other people! Park...not...busy. They've added little eagle stables. An old-school, er, old school--where they taught you how to suffer. "Fire in the hole!" That's not good.... "It looks like you've been kissin' that steam train!" Misty's favorite ride at Dollywood. Really? "Raring"? The trail of destruction the Tornado leaves in its wake. This is kind of a new picture. Okay, so it's not going to be crowded today. Yes, I've taken this photo 100 times. The lye soap stand has a new home there, as well. A new eatery along the new path that connects Timber Canyon to the Tennessee Tornado area. It costs $3.00 Misty takes aim. Dolly's newest ride, River Battle. See? ...they would make a really kick ass panorama. If I could somehow stitch this picture together with the next two... A bear lives under Thunderhead's second hill. The pre-lift mini-helix. Thunderhead's station and famous "fly through." I hope the line's not too long. :OP Well, mostly. The Huss ride is working! Everyone has this picture. But it is our first time here.... Hey, a bakery! Let's go in there! You know...I've worked at a lot of parks. And I consider myself pretty guest service oriented. But that's a new one on me. Yay, a new park! Six Flags Addict
Great PTR! This really brings back memories from my trip to DW back in July...Wish I would of stayed there longer but I only had time to do TT, Thunderhead, and MM a couple times. Hope I can get back there soon. Thanks for posting!
YoshiFan
I wish parks near me would still be on daily operations, it looks like it was great with nobody in the park.
Holtskee
The slightly renamed Smoky Mountain Rampage in all its glory. That was actually what it was named to begin with in 1986. At some point the park started calling it the Smoky Mountain River Rampage on the guide maps. (I guess to clearly define it as being a water ride or something) I don't think the sign out in front of the ride has ever had the word "River" on it though. Just a geek factoid for ya. I guess I was slightly confused on that one. I recalled it being the River Rampage, and assumed it had been renamed because of River Battle. But looking back at some older photos, you're right: the sign hasn't changed.
Brandy524
Wow, that must have been nice to have the park practically all to yourselves. I really want to get to Dollywood some day. It looks like a lot of fun. Great pictures!
TheRapidsNerd
The Nerd is grateful for the shoutout. Thank you for the kindness, friend, and the new desktop. Man if I had the park to myself like you did, there would be an orgiastic overtake of Smokey Mountain Rampage to make up for over 15 years of missed credit...followed by Vault Icee after-thirst. nursemelis374
Great TR! I am very jealous of how empty it was! I am dying to get to Dollywood, both because it looks like a great park and because I am a huge Dolly Parton fan! Seems like despite the weather this would be a good time of year to plan a trip.
