Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I was told by an employee today even without asking, that worlds of fun is getting a new front gate next year. And he awkwardly said that worlds of fun "is in no need of a new coaster".

Okay. First and foremost, why in the world would an employee tell a guest that?!? Especially a high schooler during a band visit day? No hate, I'm a senior in high school.

Anyways, that makes very very little sense. Park employees don't just go around telling people the future expansion projects. ESPECIALLY since you said you didn't even ask. Were you talking about the park getting a new entrance, then an employee butted in that information? I've heard my own fair share of blush-t from employees at the park, and it's generally from the employees who hate working there. I'm just flabbergasted that anyone would tell you that, well, because I'm pretty sure they wouldn't.

HOWEVER. If somehow this is true information and someone wasn't blowing smoke up your rear, the entrance would have to be gutted and rebuilt- there isn't much room near the front entrance. And IF there is a coaster coming with it, the entrance would have to be in either Scandinavia or Orient. Scandinavia doesn't have tons of room around the front gate, except for the big wooded area behind Tivoli Hall, but I'm pretty sure that is where the park compiles trash..? In orient, I suppose they could re-use the old express entrance, but the haunt list is at 13 this year which means either another one must be built or this one is staying. What kind of coaster would it even be? I don't even know at this point... I sadly would guess a standard wing rider, nothing special in regards to record-braking stats. I'd love to say giga, but of all places the front entrance is not where the room is at.

I suppose I'll believe it when I see it. I was really banking on the existing portions of the park being cleaned up before something like that. I also am expecting the park to eventually expand outwards behind the wind seeker into the giant field all the way to the Timberwolf. I'm skeptical to say the least, especially since this is a completely new concept and generally the parks already have some sort of game plan, and the fact nobody has mentioned this expansion before further pushes my feeling the employee was a jokester.

As much as I love idea of a coaster entrance- or just a new entrance, even, I don't see it. Honestly, I was almost positive the entrance got refurbished in between 2011 and 12. I've never been strikingly concerned over the entrance because I don't think it is that bad.

I'm hoping I'll eat my own words come this fall WOF normally gets the shaft, so I'm now extremely anxious for the next season and it is May.

He said he liked my gatekeeper shirt and then went on to the entrance thingy. Yea it confuses the crap out of me.

I hope the new entrance is different than the ones at Carowinds and CP. I like the look of them there, but the generic feel of them doesn't really fit the whole theme and feel of WoF in my opinion.

If they managed to make the entrance grander while still making it look charming, it would be a great change. A entrance coaster would look great as well.

I don't know how they would do it though. The oath from the parking lot comes to the right of the entrance, so you wouldn't be able to really have a fury 325 like entrance so I don't know. Maybe they would turn the entrance as well.

There are two paths that lead visitors to the entrance. One comes from the standard parking lot where guests are first directed to, and does indeed come from the right in retrospect to the entrance position. However, the other path comes from the more eastern parking spots, and also is where the VIP parking is/ was. That pathway follows a gate to the entrance from the far left, just passed the nurtury. I don't think it would be reasonable to expect any Fury-styled coaster, because the entrance is sort of cramped behind the park services building and what not. Maybe a gatekeeper type coaster, maybe...

If They Were To Add A New Entrance/Coaster It Would Either Be In Oriental, Americana, or Scandi...

But There's Also Something I Found Interesting

Im sure it's just a space filler, but I just noticed that. How interesting. Is there any other in the other commercials.

I'm pretty positive that is for no reason. Dorney, Valleyfair, Kings Dominion, California's Great America, Knotts, and Michigan's Adventure all have coasters on their "skyline" that aren't actually in the park. Don't read into that. Cedar fair makes those, and they aren't anything to base information on.

^ Who... knows? ...Maybe... or... maybe... they... just... decided... it wasn't that important and just wanted a fun graphic to sell gold passes and didn't care how accurate the images actually.... were.

That Could Also Be True... But Why Didnt they Use The Spinning Dragon ..Or The Boomerang..I see Why They Didnt Use The Prowler.. Because They Didnt Want It To Make It Seem Like The Timberwolf and The Prowler Were Combined

Spinning Dragons is in the bottom left corner, and Boomerang is right behind the Mamba. And they used Prowler, not Timberwolf.. Lol

I guess we should just wait and see. I'd bet on a new flat ride package over a new entrance. Heck, I'd bet on an RMC Timberwolf conversion before a new entrance. While I'd love to be wrong, let's look at what we have solid evidence for before running off crazy

And let's not forget the dark ride that will most probably make it's way into the park, where would it go? The park doesn't have any large structures that aren't used often.

Doubt we will see that since they are spending a bunch of money on twolf retracking and there has been no sign of it anywhere at anytime.

Check out screamscape. I'm almost convinced that TW is just being patched up so they can squeeze another year out of it.

Planning on hitting up Worlds of Fun with some family on Memorial Day. A couple questions for the regulars...Is Fast Lane a recommended item? Do most of the FL lines go right to the station or do they merge away from the station? Any good rides for the whole family? Anything unique to the park that I must do whether it be rides, shows, or food?

Thanks!

Timber Wolf has had track removed on at least the first drop through the first turn-around. They are replacing all the ledgers, etc. as well as all layers of that track. This is no patch job just to squeeze another year out of it. They may be doing different sections of the ride over several seasons, as they were doing with Carowinds' woodie(s), Thunder Road recently. I think it's safe to say that an RMC conversion is not coming to Timber Wolf anytime soon.

I'm assuming people are starting to hear about the new entrance Kings Dominion is potentially receiving? Would CF do more than one park entrance in one year?

This thread gets so dead so quickly..

Possibly. I love Cedar Fair and I'm pretty 2016 is going to be a BIG year for the company. Let's hope it's something MASSIVE and full of THRILLS!

Hmm I wonder what they all have planned at kings dominion, cedar point, and world's of fun for 2016. I also remember hearing about Michigans Adventure. 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for Cedar Fair.

I have read threads on every cedar fair park. Every year everyone has high expectations. We can all hope some of the older cedar fair parks finally get some love. I feel since the Paramount purchase, the other parks haven't received as much attention. Lets all hope for a big year!
