Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Any new news

No, but in all seriousness, we probably won't for a while.

What would you guys think of a new flat ride package for WOF next year? Maybe the used flat rides with Gerstlauer Sky Roller or a giant Frisbee? I'd be fine with that, as the Sky Roller looks like tons of fun and a giant frisbee has been something WOF fans have wanted to years.

Throw in a matracer slide at OOF and you have a deal

I don't really care about expanding OOF. It's really a great park as it is and doesn't really need expansion.

It needs more capacity

Yes more capacity but other than that I personally think it needs more food choices

It has 7 places to get full meals. How many does it really need?

From the 1st Qtr Conf Call:

Cedar Fair will continue to embrace and grow each park in line with their own regional brand. Knott's and Carowinds were studied first, Cedar Point and Canada's Wonderland were just completed, and Valleyfair and California's Great America are up next. Based on the in-depth studies of the parks, both marketing and expansion plans will be formed.

At least the VF fanclub will have something to talk about

How can you be aggressive if you don't know what to be aggressive about? That's kinda the point of the study, to see what kind of life there is to breathe into the parks. CGA was mentioned that an entertainment district is being considered outside the park in part to take advantage of Levi stadium but also to harness the population density especially with lunchtime crowds.

Another item they are floating is adding ballfields, hotels, and what not to land they own around various parks. Something that WOF would be perfect for. Soccer and baseball tournaments onsite would be great for boosting attendance which in turn boosts revenue that in theory would be used for more new attractions. Playing baseball out by Patriot or behind Prowler...winning.

Notice how there is no mention of aggressive expansion for either VF and CGA.

Cedar Fair's quarterly and annual reports are public records and released by the company. They are quite interesting as they detail land expansion available at each park and from what I recall for CGA it lists the acreage of the park has been used and developed. This would mean that CF would need to invest in the current infrastructure of the park. Other parks, like WoF, VF and MiA, have acreage undeveloped for future expansion.

I still think WoF is quite a few years out from being a park that CF will focus on as an investment property. They have a pretty good steady attendance from surrounding metro areas. They are one of the smaller attended parks in the chain. However, like I said before, SDC is not being very coy about their future plans. Adventureland is also adding a new interesting coaster that will hopefully fuel CF to add something to WoF to draw crowds! We can only hope!

You must have missed the plans for cga's future . . .

Nope. I saw them. I just did not think it was very aggressive

Okay, sorry, but you must be blind.

Yes. That is probably a logical conclusion.

It's like knowing we are getting an awesome Christmas present and jdk what is it yet. Even though the park has to follow a certain decorum of corporate rules we are in good hands. IMO Mr. Ouimet is taking the entire chain and fiscally turning the parks on thier head. He also seems to care about the regional aspects pertaining to each individual park brand under the large corporate umbrella. My gut tells me we are in for a phenomal year of surprises.

You also said something big was coming in 2016 while referencing a coaster, there would be an expansion in the thunder hawk area this year as well, and there would be more than just planet snoopy expansion, so......

Did anyone else see the new Saloon located next to the Jail? Could we be seeing something like Ghost Town at Knotts coming where the markers are? Just a thought.

Possibly. I'm still saying dark ride with the used rides. That's my final answer until some more info comes along.

Speaking of coasters though, what would you guys think of a dive coaster? I'm know it's been mentioned in this thread before as a joke, but I think it would be a great fit, especially for a smaller park like Worlds of Fun. They're not all that expensive, and they are much more thrilling than most coasters on the market. What if they build one where Orient Express was, and have it dive into the small valley next to the front entrance?

I think that'd be a great fit, probably not something as big as Valravn but a smaller dive like Krake, Baron, or Oblivion at Gardaland.

I don't think getting me 200+ feet tall would be that big of a hassle. I could see a 150 or 175ft. model too.
